      We used to have a really huge one that *I* liked well enough to deal with storage, but it was so large it was a pain to manage and it was hard to shake out if it got at all mucky, and just the sight of it constantly in the way in storage frustrated my husband. I had an old much-smaller one from ALDI that rolls up into a manageable tube, we agreed that was a better format, and I lucked out and they just got them in for this year so I have a second one and we can arrange them as needed. The ALDI one has a bit tighter weave too, which I think is part of what made the other one so unwieldy.

    For just the two of us, I use two ice trays and an oblong ice bin in my freezer. We never run out of ice and if the system fails, it's due to one of us not filling up the tray as opposed to a mechanical issue.

    Ya know. I really questioned the lights on the walls mod when you shared it. LEDs are just too bright, even if the warm light is chosen. Actually, I’d love to put a dimmer on my overheads, but I can’t cuz they’re connected to the app that allows remote on/off. The idea of replacing wall lights with USB plugs is brilliant. I have a sand-free rug that folds and stores into a compact bag and I’ll be keeping it for sure. There’s nothing worse that sand, mud and grass tracking and by me and the pups, and this rug really helps. Not only that, but I sometimes step in and out barefoot. Having the rug in place means my feet don’t hurt when I step down on gravel.

    We unpacked our RV when it was going in for a lengthy service. When we re-packed it we left a lot of things out and reorganized things and Wow! We don’t miss the things we left out. Like 6 coffee cups for the 2 of us. Plus everything has its place! So much less clutter.

  • @johnnylightning1491

    I'll go you one better on the Blackstone. I bought a cast iron grill from Big Lots for about $10 that I use on my ancient Coleman 2 burner camping stove. Lodge has one for about $40-50 that is about the same if you like Lodge. Yes it get used outside, but I wouldn't fry stuff in the RV due to the grease and smell. It's small, it has 2 sides and it's about 10% or less of the space that any Blackstone takes. It works for me, it might work for you. Keep the good stuff coming.

  • @wesalexander2693

    Some really good suggestions, Charity, I absolutely agree! We bought a Blackstone grill, we had it with us just ONCE! The thing takes up too much space and is VERY heavy. I replaced it with one of the small, lightweight portable Weber grills. They are easy to setup, store and clean. You learn quickly what works and what is just excessive!

    Thank your for all your good advice on items to rethink hauling around in an RV. As a 40 year RV owner, there truly are “seasons” and “reasons” to pack more or less items - based on needs and locations we travel too. As empty nesters now and fewer trips with the grandkids in tow, we have learned to go off a check list of must haves based on group size going, location, and seasonal needs. Space is always at a premium, and you have helped me re-evaluate how we can continue our great adventures in style with downsizing a few items we find we haul for those “just in case moments” that are no longer a priority or even needed. It’s about the outdoor adventure - not necessarily having the latest RV gadget for every single task. Happy trails to all!

    We have a table top Blackstone with a side burner and use it so much more than the full-size one we had. We use it on a 4’ plastic table with adjustable height we got from Costco. We have also purchased the GE nugget ice maker, Ninja 10 in 1 oven, Instant Pots and induction double cooktop are our go to appliances. I am very guilty of having way too many pots and pans. We have found that we do want to upgrade our RV (we’ve been full time for 20 months in a travel trailer and ready for a fifth wheel) and I expect to possibly lose some of the storage this unit has. I’m ready for a stackable washer/dryer and to ditch this combo unit we have. We will upgrade back to an instant hot water heater again and plan on taking this Brooklyn mattress with us!

    I like the ice maker idea. I keep hearing that you should not drink from the tap, because it's so hard to keep the water potable, so it makes sense to use a filter, then make ice on the counter. Probably the best unitasker.

  • @timmyers3428

    Good morning Guys, totally agree on the the ice maker and the rug. With a freezer that hangs around -10 most of the time we just use flexible ice trays and the ice tray that went with the old ice maker. When we had our Norcold upgraded by JC Refrigeration I just had them remove the ice maker, and boxed it up just in case a new owner would want it. We also carry a rug but never use it, seems most of the campgrounds don't want you using them because they kill the grass. I wondered about those puck lights when you showed them in one of your videos.

    Lots of helpful hints but as an avid RV'er for the past 22 years I totally disagree about the outdoor rug. Last year we moved into an apt in Alaska while we r waiting to build our lil cabin in the woods, but before that we lived in our 34ft RV for almost 2 years and had used our rug everywhere we went and we still use our rug now when RV camping. The rug helps keep the dirt, sand & debri out of our rig. We also use a 2x3 rough rug at our doorway over the top of our large rug. Besides, our rug looks great and welcoming and makes us feel at home. Note: we usually use tent spikes to keep the large rug in place and then put lil sandbags over the spike ends. And we use our lil button lights everywhere too, love how they give just enough light to use the restroom without waking up everyone in our RV. Just my opinion folks. Cheers

  • @HavaWM
    @HavaWM ปีที่แล้ว

    I agreed with most of this, except the LED part. I'm thinking you perhaps didn't apply the idea properly...? We bought puck lights off Amazon that are magnetic, so all you have to do is put up a little circle of metal (that comes with it) if you want to have the light go somewhere specifically, or just stick it to the fridge, etc. We got the warm light version, and what I love about them is how you can turn them up or down simply by holding your finger down on the light (a long tap, basically). So we can make them bright for reading, etc, or dim for a night light, or anywhere in between.
    But what I think makes them work especially well for us is instead of putting them on a wall, we've put them on the bottom side of cupboards, so the light shines downward instead of into our eyeballs. The magnet is strong enough that they stay in place even on travel days. They are rechargeable using a USB cord.
    We bought a half-dozen of them and have used them for years. Big, big fans. Small, incredibly portable, warm light, stupidly easy to use. I'd put in a link to them on Amazon but then YT will mark this comment as spam, so just do a search for them on there.
    Thanks for the awesome videos!!
