12 Basic Questions to ask when needing suspension help to tune your cars front and rear coilovers for the best 60 foot times. Drag Race Suspension & Drag Racing shock adjustments, Tuning double adjustable shocks, aka coilovers, to help eliminate tire shake and launching a drag car do not have to be mysterious. Critical to this process is knowing what shocks and springs you have, scaling the race car, ensuring installed height of the shocks and making sure you have the right spring compression for stored energy. Corner weights help you setup preload to launch and go straight and wheelie bars are critical in wheel speed and helping steer the car if it wheelies. Tuning your drag car suspension is fun and not black magic so learn how to do coilover tuning on your car!

Don't let the suspension side of your drag car confuse or intimidate you! I want to help racers understand these parts so they can get the most out of their drag car and even more importantly, be safe! i could be in the lane next to you, so let's understand how to keep our cars fast, straight and safe! Years and years ago, people would just add more and more pinion angle to try to get more bite. While pinion angle is important, you don't need so much pinion angle as racers thought years ago. 2.5 to 3 degrees will do it, if you have the combination of other things working together. Take the time to understand these details covered here so you can be more comfortable making small, incremental changes. Go Fast! Go Straight! Be Safe!

I really liked the way you explained the wheelstand and front end travel. It makes all the sense you need to know when you can put that extra weight per say on the front earlier it slows the momentum of the wheelstand. It's like having a headstart at something with two different lengths of chain or rope. You got less chance for a dog to break loose from his chain if he can't get going before it tightens up. Something like that. I like watching your videos keep it up. I've learned alot in the last couple of months taking notes like crazy I'm in the beginning of a build myself n I'm gonna have alot more to learn thanks man keep it up

All the way around we use v 6 springs couse we thought they was softer for hooking but this me again I run 2000 z28 ls stock suspension car with everything in stock location. But I do street racing also . An its very important to hook. Theses videos are helping me thanks.

tqservices2000 thanks so much for your comments and question on the scales! I am not sponsored by these guys at all, but we have used the hang out of these scales for sure: www.longacreracing.com/products.aspx?itemid=1785&prodid=7143&pagetitle=Computerscales%c2%ae-AccuSet-II%e2%84%a2-Basic-System I do prefer the wired scales, for no specific reason, just old school I guess and we have a large security company next door with some massive wireless cameras and surveillance equipment that can make wireless stuff fun. I calibrate these before every use with the same weight for the past 7 years and these scales just repeatedly are dead consistent. Also, after each use, all batteries come out of the unit just to be safe from any acid leaking in it. Hope this helps! Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!

Thank you for your informational videos. How do I acquire 2 to 2 1/2 degrees negative pinion angle when my drive shaft angle is negative 2.80 and my pinion is .65 positive? I understand how to use the upper control arms to tip the rear end up and down to achieve a negative pinion angle of 2.5 but I can't figure out how to achieve this when I have a positive number at the pinion and a negative number at the drive shaft.

I have a 98 camaro 434lsx turbo 3650lbs with me in it I have q1a coil overs in the back double adjustable 32 click 150lbs springs 29 12 15 hossier slicks spohn adjustable panhard , lower control arms and anti sway bar with a bar torque arm strange s60 rearend with welded lower control arm relocation brackets all spherical rod ends. At ride height my shocks are 1.75 inches from bottom they have a 6 5/8 travel my shocks are compressed 41% 720 lbs per spring since there compressed 4.8 inches on a 12 inch long spring. So what I'm wonder is in order for me to have a 25-30% comprssion ratio I would need 200- 240 lbs springs. Or if I went with a longer spring 16inch with the same spring rate I have now I could get to 30% but all my energy would still be stored in the 4.8 inches the spring would compress. So my question is is there a distance in inches rather than by percentage that you want your spring to compress. I'm set up right now with about a inch of seperation on a hard hit any more and I crush the slicks would a stiffer spring benefit me . On a marginal track I blow the tires off but it's my own fault for not softening the rebound in my shocks. Any help would be appreciated

  • @elenacurry1

Hey Kevin, great stuff. Question, would you be interested in helping with my air ride street short bed 1986 C10 that has 600HP now? A Skip White 434. TCI TH350 with a Gear Vendors overdrive. I have installed a basic Art Morrison triangular 4 link with a Quick Performance 9". The front is a Porter-Built air ride chassis. Basically a mustang 2 design with rack and pinion. The shocks are just the cheap ones that came with both kits to mainly deal with all of the travel of the air ride chassis. The air ride system is Airlift. The chassis is Porter-Built's stage 1. It's not a lay flat where the bed is all cut up, but just a standard C-Notched truck. It's limited to 3" off the ground. Art Morrison doesn't make a bolt on kit for the 4-link, so with a plasma cutter and welder I fabricated it in. I mounted the rear shocks in the center of the total chassis movement to match the center of travel of the shocks. That's all I knew to do. I set the 4 link system to be in the middle of it's total travel, (I think it's 8"), to be at ride height. So at ride height, I have 4" inches each direction. All 4 sides are bagged, but with the welder, I can change to air ride struts if needed. Do you have any cool Ideas that might help us air ride guys?
