Well during jesus time or after Jesus gone It is legal punishment for the criminals as supposed to be But yeah many slaves too got into it Probably many of them are innocent
I mean, the act is proven, the event, and the person involved cannot (in fact so many facts of the event can't have happened, not just the way presented, but in detail). Another issue i saw is the shape of the Roman Cross (the Assyrians just used a single pole and usually tied the victim), and actual period evidence suggests the overall shape was a capital T not a lower case t (the error seemed to have come the supposed placement of the sign that the Governor had ordered to be on the supposed victim, which is further evidence that those telling the story, had not seen the events)
Great thinking, if I may have you view this from another perspective, The cross Jesus Christ bore, being a capital or lowercase T really doesn’t really affect the validity of eye witness accounts. If we are being honest the Bible is not to describe what the cross looks like, it was portraying Jesus suffering to pay the price for your sin and my sin, and for the sin of the world. It doesn’t matter weather the grass was light green, or just green, what matters is that there was a picnic on the grass. Sometimes details like that are not essential to something’s intent. I like your knowledge on ancient history, and dark science, but I just wanted to maybe suggest viewing the same position form a different standpoint.
We even see this mentioned in John's account of Jesus's death. John 19:31-33 ESV [31] Since it was the day of Preparation, and so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. [32] So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who had been crucified with him. [33] But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.
@@GoofyAhOklahoma The Passover lamb’s bones not being broken is also in other parts of the Bible. Exodus 12:46 46 "It must be eaten inside the house; take none of the meat outside the house. John 1:29 Behold the Lamb of God 29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! I'm pretty shocked that the cause of death from crucifixion is respiratory failure. I was expecting bleeding out or dehydration or the injuries being too much. Interesting thing to learn.
The cause of death could vary. Some died of heart failure due to extreme pain and stress, some died of blood-loss caused by flogging. Jesus Christ might have died of flogging induced blood-loss, since he is mentioned to have died just few hours after being crucified. Usually crucifixion victims survived much longer than Jesus did, suggesting that he died of blood-loss.
Unless you’re piercing a major artery, you wouldn’t bleed out because the nails aren’t removed. Yes you would have some bleeding, but not enough to cause death as the nails keep the vessels closed due to their pressure being driven into the cross. Dehydration is possible tho given you are exerting the body and forced to bake in the desert sun for hours or even days.

As a retired surgeon, and reading about the science behind Jesus’ Crucifixion, I have always had difficulty looking at representations of him on the Cross. Most representations are anatomically incorrect. The “correct” version is so horrible and violent that it brings me to tears. Obviously he KNEW what would happen to him. Living in that time, he must certainly have heard (and witnessed) the screams of those people who went before him. He most certainly had no “illusions.” If I am ever honored to meet him, I will certainly express how terribly sorry I am for his having had to experience this. I know he is no longer in pain. The punishment of crime in some ancient societies was so severe because criminals weren’t always caught, and often managed to escape punishment, and so the authorities made punishment so severe to dissuade easy crime. It made people think, “yeah, I could pretty easily steal those coins. But is it worth a small chance of such pain?” This mindset was present until fairly recently even in the US, back when tampering with US mail was punishable by hanging.

slight variets do occur. While it was common to nail from the side of the foot and use two nails, it is possible to go through the front. At least in Jesus' case this must have been the method used. The Scriptures point out that Jesus never broke a bone, therefore the nail must have gone through the front. John 19:36. Also when you were propped up the sudden jolt of weight is enough to dislocate both shoulders. So breathing would be even more difficult because all of the arm weight is being put on the collarbone, not the shoulder socket.
It was also very common for those condemned to crucifixtion to be severely flogged before being nailed to the cross. This would ensure that the victim was already in a severely bleeding and weakened state before being nailed to the device. This would result in death by blood loss. You did NOT want to be a Roman citizen and be crucified, as Romans were not allowed to be flogged before being nailed to the cross. This extended their suffering by orders of magnitude because they didn’t have the “luxury” of bleeding out before they asphyxiated.
Actually most of the crucifixions where performed without nails. Other historical sources says that person being crucified was tied to the cross using canopy rope that was also really harsh in texture and caused bruising on arms. Also if person being crucified for too long their leg bones where broken to prevent raising up to breathe. Jesus Christ case was really brutal and performed in strange way comparing to others. I don't want to mention everything that was wrong with it but it was pretty unique. Also as an additional side note, not all crosses looked like this. Some where in X shape that additionally made breathing harder and usually was a faster method (that is why many ppl theorise that Jesus was crucified using X cross not T cross)
@@Glory_be_to_Christ Yes, but that doesn't mean all crucifixions were done that way, which is why the commenter didn't say they were *all* done with rope, or that *none* were done with nails.
This TH-cam video honestly has toned it down ALOT. The reality is much much more horrific. Yes it was a combination of body function failures. Loss of blood (Jesus fainting and falling trying to carry the cross) Extreme thirst (Jesus saying "I thirst") Respiratory failure, Kidney failure, Heart failure all happening at the same time. When the Roman solider pierced Jesus side, "Water and Blood" came out of his body. This is pericardial effusion where fluid builds up around the lungs and heart from lack of oxygen, loss of blood, kidneys shutting down and heart racing over 200 beats a minute trying to get oxygen flowing. The heart will eventually burst and rip apart like tearing an overworked muscle. The horror of what humans can do to cause suffering.
How being crucified upside down, St Peter style, would affect this mechanism? Perhaps respiratory failure become less important than blood congestion and the others consequences of being inverted?
I remember walking through the Stations of the Cross in the church at Catholic school. Looking back, that was a pretty traumatizing thing for 7-year-olds to do. 🤔
I'm not religious at all but why was christ killed this way as opposed to a more humane method? He didn't commit any crimes worthy of capital punishment did he?
He claimed to be god in the flesh and to be the messiah. The jews were so angry about his claims that they wanted him to be killed. And on the more religious part he carried the sins of mankind on that cross and took every bit of gods wrath that we deserve on himself.

Hypoglycemia - A person dies agonal death due to lack of food which cause low level of glucouse day after day
Adrenaline level - As the body feel energency, there is extremely high level of adrenaline hormone that cause very high heart rate, and as the breathing cannot compasiate wirh high blood flow it cause heart failure and slow death
Muscle spasm - severe muscle contraction of both voluntary and involuntary muscle due to low level of oxygen cause never ending pain till death
He went through all this for us
This is the first time I can safely say I had to tap out of a video, good job lmao. Cringing a little too much at everything. Very informative in the worst ways 10/10
But I am equally certain he has not FORGOTTEN the experience.

Jesus went to the cross for you and you can meet Him but it's a choice you have to make. I prayed 🙏💙that you would make that choice according to His Word in John 3:16-17. I did over 40 years ago and it has made all the difference between life and death for me. Choose the Son for He is the way, the truth and the life. (John 14:6a)
“For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge and condemn the world [that is, to initiate the final judgment of the world], but that the world might be saved through Him." John 3:16-17
@@shulamite7940 The Holocaust has been and remains a severe blocking point for Jews to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. But Christianity is HONEST about human suffering and does not try to hide it or shy away from it.
It is also reasonable for people to be "confused" about God. I was saved by an angel during a scuba accident. I have been personally blessed to an extraordinary degree. But I still have tears and sadness for those who perished during the Holocaust.
I thank you sincerely for your prayers and am really happy for your emotional progress! God bless you and thank you.

He definitely knew. Remember, in Gethsemane, He was so ridden with stress and fear of the coming crucifixion that He sweated blood. But He still did it anyways, willingly.

For a second, I read that as demonized. As a Christian, I was sufficiently confused.

Not quite as bad as the "blood angel" favoured by the vikings
Mesoamericans did worse things, but often to innocent people rather than criminals.
I’d say blood angel is better cuz you are dead for most of it after the initial pain
I genuinely don't think I've seen any video that has made me wince more than this one.

Blessed be the LORD and savior Jesus Christ for he died so that we may live. Thank you, sir.
That is one of the times I say "Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, God, for not making me born at that times".

If I was in charge of crucifixions today, I'd set up an amp and play "You take my breath away" on repeat in front of the condemned.
The irony is strong in this one
Damn, I didn't know crucifixion is this kind of deadly and torturous.
The thing about this is you KNOW somebody thought this up in 4000bc Assyria and someone else went, "Sure let's do it"
This, impaling, and scaphism are the most sadistic things people can do to each other, and they're literally as old as civilization itself.

@@kingoffire105 @kingoffire105 If you create a video focused on cars, does that mean you're specifically talking about Henry Ford, the movie "Cars," or just the physical object of cars themselves? Wheels are definitely a significant aspect of cars, but does that mean every car video is really about wheels?
slight variets do occur.

There's another side to it?!?!? A happy one?!?!?
YEA! Well in the story of Jesus Christ, it is. He died and three days later rose again! And saved all of humanity! 😁😁😁 🎉

To get an idea of how painful crucifixion is, from it we derived the word "excruciating", which we use when we refer to great pain.
Yea that's in the video..
Damn humans, you scary.
WE are scary
yes
It was also very common for those condemned to crucifixtion to be severely flogged before being nailed to the cross. This would ensure that the victim was already in a severely bleeding and weakened state before being nailed to the device. This would result in death by blood loss. You did NOT want to be a Roman citizen and be crucified, as Romans were not allowed to be flogged before being nailed to the cross. This extended their suffering by orders of magnitude because they didn’t have the “luxury” of bleeding out before they asphyxiated.
Thanks for the tutorial 😇❤
Isn't the human draw in the cross in minute 0:54 the same as the band Necrophagist used in their band logo design?

Thanks for giving me more traumas 🗿
Archeologists found an ankle bone with a nail driven through it
@@Glory_be_to_Christ Yes, but that doesn't mean all crucifixions were done that way, which is why the commenter didn't say they were *all* done with rope, or that *none* were done with nails.
Jesus suffered this for all of us.

@@AidanTheMeek-wr8vs he is probably a believer lol
How being crucified upside down, St Peter style, would affect this mechanism? Perhaps respiratory failure become less important than blood congestion and the others consequences of being inverted?
That’s not proven to have occurred. That’s from an apocryphal text about Peter

Crucifixion was to make an example, like the thousands of slaves who were crucified
No, even Pontus Pilatus found him to be innocent. It was the whole "king of Jews" that freaked the Romans out.
He claimed to be god in the flesh and to be the messiah. The jews were so angry about his claims that they wanted him to be killed. And on the more religious part he carried the sins of mankind on that cross and took every bit of gods wrath that we deserve on himself.

IIRC, at one point during the siege of Jerusalem, the Roman soldiers were crucifying so many people, that they were just putting them in funny poses to beat out boredom.
.... This is how to ruin your day
I can't help but think of Appian way at the end of Spartacus.
What a horrid scene.
If you use headphones during Gannicus' crucifixion, he imagines a crowd cheering for him in the arena, but the headphones reveal that it's just the screams of men and women being crucified.
It horrified me the first time I heard it.
4:20 now I'm curious if you can inhale enough to break your chest from the inside out
Your lungs most likely would pop before that happens, i assume
Luckily most people have a sternum and a diaphragm, so that is functionally impossible.
Your muscles and mainly your lung tissue can’t generate the force. I have, however, once or twice been able to inflate my lungs but keep my chest “tight” and….idk I think use pressure from my lungs to slow my heart? To the point where I’ve organically passed out. From the outside just looks like I hold my breath except it’s 10 seconds instead of however long it would take just holding it normally.
Thank YOU JESUS FOR WHAT YOU WENT THROUGH FOR US 😢😞
