It's a great card game but not something I'd rank as GOTY, especially if you don't play card games much. I never even heard of Belatro until it was nominated for GOTY and when I tried it, I found it fun, but not good enough to be GOTY. I feel there are other full games that are better in general than Belatro. It's also why I feel Shadow of the Erdtree should not be in the GOTY category either.
The Elden Ring DLC is so jam packed of high quality content it could have been sold as a seperate game so I believe it should be allowed With FF7 Rebirth when you compare it to the original it is basically a diffrent game, it plays completely different, has story differences, voice acting, and so much more content that I don't consider it a remake, it stands on its own and deserves a spot
I love Balatro, but playing it at the start does not do the game justice. That’s why I immediately unlocked everything through the settings. Playing with the full set of Jokers is a game changer. Literally. The only reason I have not bought this game on mobile is becuz I fear I may play it too much.
I think you have to give merit to balatro as game of the year material. Made by one person, infinitely replayable for a lot of people with actually fun progression and it’s rare to see a rogue like in goty let alone so many categories. I’m not particularly into the game either but given how unique it is I think it deserves its place
DLC should be eligible because it can completely overhaul a game. If you play D2 vanilla and then FS, you would think they are diff games. It’s like going from D2 > D1. But being eligible doesn’t mean it’s gonna be nominated. The DLC should be able to stand on its own and not feel like an add-on to get nominated.
Balatro all the way. Having a game developed by one person clean house would be awesome in the same year Concord incinerated nearly half a billion dollars. Also I’ve put more time in Balatro than anything else nominated lol
If DLC's were there own thing and it went over all the dlcs that came out this year. I think for many of us either Elden Ring or The Final Shape wouldve been complicated to choose for this community here. But for the whole gaming community, I don't think anything Destiny related will be nominated so high, or even be noticed, simply because of well... you know not only the amount of times people moan and complain, but also yknow...Bungie messing things up, managing and direction wise that impacts the game negatively. Until Bungie makes genuine changes that got Destiny to the peak that it had, perchance Quality over Quantity technique, anything destiny related would not be recieved very high IF dlc's were to be their own thing.
It's funny hearing people say FFVII Rebirth is really long. The main campaign will take about 50 hours. If you go for 100% completion, you're looking at around 150-200 hours. That's light work compared to many RPGs. My only criticisms of Rebirth is that they went too far with the number of mini-games (like seriously, cut them in half), and they seemed to chicken out when it came to the plot. At the end of Remake, they heavily hinted that the story was going to take a "fight against fate" approach. But they seemed to scrap that idea. I haven't completed the main story yet, but from what I've heard, they didn't change anything. That's a bit disappointing.
@brettadiah10 lol. It's all good. I get it. I was waiting for a bug to get fixed that was preventing me from finishing one of the last mini-games. Around that time, The Finals Shape was a month or 2 away, and I wanted to finish the seasonal content before it got vaulted. So, I started playing D2 again, and I kind of just kept playing D2 non-stop since then. I am almost done with Rebirth, and I didn't feel like the game was too long at all. I've put WAY more hours into D2 since TFS launched than I put into Rebirth, and compared to other RPGs I've played, Rebirth isn't that long. I just got distracted. Whenever D2 gets hold of me, I get hooked for a long time, lol. I'm going back and finishing Rebirth now, though, since I finally got burned out from D2. At the time, I loved the game, though, and it was my GOTY. But if it was an option, I think TFS became my GOTY, with Rebirth being 2nd.
DLCs havent been nominated before, until... Miyazaki and the Geoff bias to him (and Kojima). But remakes, not remastered, have been nominated before if i recall. RE2 and RE4 and FFVII (2 times), and probably another ones (?). Oh, and btw, imo remakes makes sense, since new generations have come to play, and they could not enjoy several games if it is not for the remakes, and once again, RE-FF-SH2, are gems that other wise many ppl would not have enjoyed.
No it doesn't. I love fromsoft games as much as the next guy but it completely takes away from hard working companies who made amazing NEW games for gamers such as shift up (Stellar Blade, which didn't even make it in there but Astro Bot did) and Game Science with Wukong. It should be it's own category, end of story.
I go 2 ways. On 1 hand DLC already has a base game so their engine/models/music/textures etc are all available to use as a starting point so it feels unfair to rank them in the same category as totally new games. But on the other hand if a full ass release can't clear a DLC and the DLC wins, then do those games ever deserve to win game of the year in the first place?
I don't think remakes should be nominated but for FF7 rebirth I can at least give it a leeway because it is not the same game as the original FF7, I think it should fall under a new catagory of reimagined
89% are wrong, haha jk jk. Shadow of the Erdtree is definitely the exception here though. There are plenty of expansions that would be silly to nominate, Final Shape included. But for the few that muster the size, scope, and achievement of Erdtree, it'd be silly to section it off into a smaller subcategory. They definitely reached and exceeded the height of a full game's release and deserve to be nominated.
I take it by your reaction to Outlaws that you haven’t played the latest patch or DLC for it, considering how much has been addressed with it. If Cyberpunk can bounce back and be recognized for it, no reason Outlaws shouldn’t be out of consideration. It’s nowhere near the rebound as CP2077, but a lot has been addressed in the short time since it’s been out. I’m thinking Massive might understand what’s at stake more than UbiSoft does, and it shows in their recent efforts. And while Shadow of the Erdtree was great, it’s a DLC, and doesn’t belong in GOTY. The list is a bit of a head scratcher, this year.
No, Remasters and DLCS/Expansions should not be in the running for GOTY. That being said, there SHOULD be a separate category for best DLC/ Expansion of the year as well as best Collection/ Game preservation of the year(Looking at the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection here). Remasters are literally just an uprezzed version of an old game, such as Skyrim and TLOU have been doing for years, however, Remakes on the other hand SHOULD be considered for GOTY as they change the game to a new format, add new content, and change the play style, such as the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes, and the Silent Hill Remake that just came out. Yes, they tell mostly the same story, but in entirely new ways. Nobody can say that those aren't entirely new games. Edited to add that Metaphor and Rebirth are both fantastic games and I honestly cannot decide at this time(still very early in Metaphor) which I'd vote for, but it's definitely out of those 2 for me.
Unironically Balatro should win GOTY. One of the best gameplay experiences I've ever encountered. The nextfest demo on its own was better than many full games.
@@ziegfeld4131 I enjoyed FF7 Rebirth a lot. FF7R2 has a lot of good moments and great twists on the original classic. But as a game, meant to be played for gameplay, Balatro is better.

eldenring deserves to win again i enjoyed the dlc ssoooo much more then the base game. wukong was very good but also the gameplay and world exploration was so mid. i cant bring myself to finishing it as i beat all the fights easily with the same attack spam every time. last boss i beat was that stunning looking fight against a white dragon on a frozen lake. i just wish it would have been a harder more engaging fight as it really was beautiful but it was over in 2 attempts. idk man, boring gameplay to me but good for you if you enjoyed it
It’s gonna be tight man imo. BMW, FFR, ER:SOTE and Metaphor were all bangers definitely an RPG year apparently . . . I guess ER and BMW are closer to souls likes but still a good selection. And FFR may have came out to early and lost some of its hype. I love all of them.!
I love shadow of the erdtree but from the perspective of not putting dlcs as goty, i think it should go to wukong. But I 100% prefer shadow of the erd tree
The easiest way to make the GOTY vote matter is to put EVERY GAME AND DLC out there. Vote for whatever you want to be the GOTY. Most votes win. Simple.
This debate about DLCs has been going on for a while. Now we get remasters and remakes all the time aswell. Here's a thought They have 29 fucking categories. Fucking 29. Add 3 more for each corresponding type of game. Too much work? Aight add just one with all 3 of em inside and call it "Best Reintegration" or something. Plus now we got 30 categories and the OCD attack is quenched. You're welcome Geoff that'll be 20.000$ + 25% of this category's annual profit, you can wire it to my bank account.
2:05 What does this comment even mean? Yes, Destiny players actively deny themselves some of the greatest gaming experiences ever because they're busy grinding Grandmaster Nightfalls for a perk roll Bungie has unknowingly bugged to devastate drop rates, or running holiday events that haven't changed in half a decade or more, or running their 50th raid because "lol exotics lol" and Bungie has, in 10 years, NOT realized that teams should get the same loot and that it's immensely frustrating to not get something that your entire squad gets. HOPEFULLY people play more games that "the D2 crowd wouldn't main." That's where the GOOD games are.
It's literally a looter shooter and that's why people get different loot. Also like you said it was a bug and wasn't intentionally. Accidents happen. Even tho you don't like it for what it is destiny is a good game.
@cerebralassassin2185 1) Destiny is not a good game and I'm tired of people pretending it is. If you like it, great. I've loved trash games in my life. Just admit it for what it is. 2) I called Bungie out for not knowing about the bug. Was it unintentional? Maybe. We don't know that. They've purposefully fudged numbers before, they were busted doing it. The BIGGER problem is their extreme lack of QA that allowed this bug to plague drop rates likely for YEARS. Yes Destiny is a looter shooter...repetition, grind, farm, all those things come with the territory. But one reason so many people can't stand this genre is because of how overwhelmingly disappointing those aspects are. Games like this NEED to respect your time, and Destiny has gone 10 years actively, consciously, willfully and purposefully disrespecting every single player's time. They were doing that BEFORE "weightgate," and now that we see Bungie's ineptitude front and center...the proof is undeniable. And yet...folks like yourself continue to misframe it, defend Bungie loyally, and blind yourself to the truth. Stop. Making. Excuses. For. Them.
I do believe that this year GOTY nominations are quite possibly the best it could be. We have an indie card game, a DLC, a Remake, a turn base RPG and a Triple A not made by one of the usual suspects. Now, should a DLC be nominated? F*ck yeah it should! If the game that won GOTY before drops a DLC so good that it also get a nomination for GOTY then of course it deserves to compete! Same for a Remake! And an Indie card game! And a non-mainstream genre like a turn base rpg! I'll go even further by saying that if the Final Shape had come out being a masterpiece of an expansion it should have also gone up there for nomination. It should be all about quality, doesn't matter the form. That way other games like D2, Warframe, No Man Sky or many other games out there should strive for GOTY every year.
I dont know anyone who played through wukong, most played for a couple hours and stopped because the combat just wasn't what they wanted out of that style of game.
People are yapping bc they don't want to see elden ring win another GOTY, Shadow of erdtree was damn near a whole new game, you could fr cut out vanilla elden ring, leave only shadow of the erdtree and still charge 45-60 bucks and nobody would complain. DLC should only be considered if the work put into it was sizeable, in this case I think Shadow of the Erdtree 100% deserves a GOTY nominee spot
DLC should have their own category Remakes and Remasters should not get any praise (look at what infinity ward did to the MW series...) This thing of rehashing stuff is a tumor in the gaming world. We need to get this out

It’s not called DLC of the Year or Expansion of the Year or anything like that. It’s GAME of the Year.
Shadow of the Urdtree alone has more content then every other game nominated
Ding Ding thank you. Case by Case basis@@killclip6449
@killclip6449 does that change the fact that it is still a DLC
@wowcbi No but it says alot when a DLC has more content than most AAA games and current indie games
@soraxstacy1477 maybe it should have been elden ring 2, nat a DLC that needs you to buy the old game 1st.
I am just saying probably would have made more money lol
Remakes r 100% a case by case situation cuz there's remakes like FF7, SH2, Dead Space, RE 1, 2, and 4 that r completely different games from the original
No lies about DragonsDogma 2 and I was a huge DD1 fan. They really didn't push enough stuff forward to make it happen. But godamn it feels so good.
A multi-player mode where your friends control your pawns is the jam
I'd like DLCs to have their own category. Final Shape deserves a nomination. The campaign was pretty good
Stellar Blade got robbed. Outlaws spots should be replaced with Stellar Blade
Yep. But are you surprised? The jury is made up of shill outlets like IGN (who gave veilguard a 9, Wukong a 8 and Stellar Blade a 7) and 90% of votes are done by them too. Gamers make up for 10% of votes - so it's essentially another fake award by completely out of touch people.
Stellar for sure should have replaced baltaro but it wouldn’t beat wukong or elden ring
@@davidthompson5308 balatro is goty, what u mean?
Unicorn overlord was such a great game. Wish it was there in the nominations 😢
Happy Holidays Cross!
Average Titan main doesn't have the intelligence required to comprehend the genius of Balatro.
Ok
It's a great card game but not something I'd rank as GOTY, especially if you don't play card games much. I never even heard of Belatro until it was nominated for GOTY and when I tried it, I found it fun, but not good enough to be GOTY. I feel there are other full games that are better in general than Belatro. It's also why I feel Shadow of the Erdtree should not be in the GOTY category either.
Balatro is a build crafting unleashed that looks like a card game.
I'm just upset that P3R didn't get nominated for best soundtrack that game has absolute bangers.
Balatro, lowkey is a fantastic game. You should try it
If anyone remembers that years ago The Witcher 3 , Blood and Wine dlc was indeed nominated as game of year as well.
No it wasn't. It was RPG of the year.
Cod fans have smooth brains. No wrinkles
Their brains are also hollow
No one told this man to listen to the Metaphor battle theme?
The Elden Ring DLC is so jam packed of high quality content it could have been sold as a seperate game so I believe it should be allowed
With FF7 Rebirth when you compare it to the original it is basically a diffrent game, it plays completely different, has story differences, voice acting, and so much more content that I don't consider it a remake, it stands on its own and deserves a spot
"it could have been sold as a separate game" yet it didn't, and that's why it should not be allowed a nomination for GAME of the year.
@@umbratilicious15 well you dont make the rules, deal with it.
I love Balatro, but playing it at the start does not do the game justice. That’s why I immediately unlocked everything through the settings. Playing with the full set of Jokers is a game changer. Literally. The only reason I have not bought this game on mobile is becuz I fear I may play it too much.
I guess this was more important that Warlock super damage testing lol
Astro Bot is absolutely great, can't think of a more pure and joyous gaming experience I've had in a long time than my time with Astro Bot
I think you have to give merit to balatro as game of the year material. Made by one person, infinitely replayable for a lot of people with actually fun progression and it’s rare to see a rogue like in goty let alone so many categories. I’m not particularly into the game either but given how unique it is I think it deserves its place
Helldivers is easily my favorite game that came out this year with Palworld as second.
I would love to watch you play metaphor
Hands Down. Concord game of the year baby.
100% says all game journalists and twitter!
Balatro all the way. Having a game developed by one person clean house would be awesome in the same year Concord incinerated nearly half a billion dollars. Also I’ve put more time in Balatro than anything else nominated lol
Metafor - Persona with no dating, Dragon slaying, and BERSERK like characters. Brilliance.
I'm not trying to talk shit or anything but hearing you say it's not that long and then later saying I haven't finished it is kind of funny lol
Oh, and btw, imo remakes makes sense, since new generations have come to play, and they could not enjoy several games if it is not for the remakes, and once again, RE-FF-SH2, are gems that other wise many ppl would not have enjoyed.
not gonna lie I hope Elden ring wins game of the year It would be kinda insane if a DLC wins game of the year + its deserved imo
@@lanyceraAstro Bot is a lot better than stellar blade, that's why it made it up there but stellar blade did not.
It's definitely deserved lol shit was a completely different game.
@@lanyceracope and seeth lmfao
Balatro has my vote
Cheeky aztecross upload before bed never gets old, destiny 2 vs fortnite is an interesting 1v1 as well
Metaphor is EASILY my GOTY, but I've loved every Persona game too. I don't know if it is the type of game that Cross will like, but I hope so.
Rebirth is a 10/10, you DONT have to beat every mini game, that’s just if you are going for the platinum. Combat, storytelling, music, it’s amazing
Silent Hill 2 not even being on the list is criminal
Metaphor: refantazio or final fantasy imo deserve this
Palworld hasn’t actually launched fully yet, they’re still in pre-release. That’s why the game isn’t finished obviously
Outlaws was fine, and its getting better with updates. It didnt really get nominated for anything crazy.
dlc’s should be mentioned in goty , in my opinion.
game developers cant be mad if a dlc is better than their core game.
DLC should have its own category. IMO game of the year should be strictly reserved for new games.
Metaphor deserves all the categories it in
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
Unironically Balatro should win GOTY. One of the best gameplay experiences I've ever encountered. The nextfest demo on its own was better than many full games.
It’s not even close to Ff7 rebirth nothing else is
@@ziegfeld4131 I enjoyed FF7 Rebirth a lot. FF7R2 has a lot of good moments and great twists on the original classic. But as a game, meant to be played for gameplay, Balatro is better.
@@thecactusman17 Nah, I didn't even hear of Balatro until it's nomination at the game awards. While I found it fun when I tried it, I didn't find it to be great as a card game, I didn't find it good enough to be in GOTY. There are other games more deserving to be there in my opinion.

LETS GO METAPHOR PLAYTHROUGH
How do the nominees even get chosen?
eldenring deserves to win again i enjoyed the dlc ssoooo much more then the base game. wukong was very good but also the gameplay and world exploration was so mid. i cant bring myself to finishing it as i beat all the fights easily with the same attack spam every time. last boss i beat was that stunning looking fight against a white dragon on a frozen lake. i just wish it would have been a harder more engaging fight as it really was beautiful but it was over in 2 attempts. idk man, boring gameplay to me but good for you if you enjoyed it
It’s gonna be tight man imo. BMW, FFR, ER:SOTE and Metaphor were all bangers definitely an RPG year apparently . . . I guess ER and BMW are closer to souls likes but still a good selection. And FFR may have came out to early and lost some of its hype. I love all of them.!
If Elden ring DLC got nominated then Final Shape also should
Balatro is like CRACK. Doesn't matter that it's a card game or not.
I love shadow of the erdtree but from the perspective of not putting dlcs as goty, i think it should go to wukong. But I 100% prefer shadow of the erd tree
Arcane is without a doubt the absolute best Animated show on that list! 💯❤🔥❤💕
I play a bunch of mobile legends. Would love to see content
The easiest way to make the GOTY vote matter is to put EVERY GAME AND DLC out there. Vote for whatever you want to be the GOTY. Most votes win. Simple.
Nothing brings me life like thinking Cross screaming YAAAAAHHHHHH very time faker made a play at worlds
This debate about DLCs has been going on for a while. Now we get remasters and remakes all the time aswell. Here's a thought
They have 29 fucking categories.
Shadow of the Erdtree all day. Clears all other nominees easily.
Slaves to comparison.
Some people eat goats, some people milk goats, some people stick to cows, both give you cheese
I think remakes of older games should be considered. FF7 is almost 30 years old at this point.
Stop. Making. Excuses. For. Them.
Five hearts under one roof... cross lol when??😂😂😂
I do believe that this year GOTY nominations are quite possibly the best it could be.
DLC should have their own category
Remakes and Remasters should not get any praise (look at what infinity ward did to the MW series...)
This thing of rehashing stuff is a tumor in the gaming world. We need to get this out
Has he even played remake? Or reunion?

Best expansion should be another category and remove remakes, remasters, rebirths or DLCs from game of the year. It should be brand new to the scene
