As mentioned, I do find this similar in finish to a Mineralized Skin Finish Natural, but would say the MSFN is a little 'glowier' and has more of a tendency to cake if you over-apply. The Chanel will not cake up in my experience regardless of how many layers, so is a little more forgiving in that area, even if you attempt to build up a fair coverage.
Chanel Les Beiges #50 is quite similar to Benefit Hoola but a smidgeon warmer than the Benefit- I did a swatch comparison in my recent Bronzarella GRWM video here; • GRWM: Illamasqua Bronz...

This powder looks so nice! Loved how it still looked beautiful at the end of the day, almost better! Thanks for the in-depth honest review :)
Wonderful review. Best I've seen so far I do want to thank you for doing such a truthful, honest review.
Beautiful! I loved the results.
Hey Rosie- thanks for your kind words! Absolutely nothing like that Laura Mercier Mineral- LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
Great review! Thank you for this.....your videos are always so helpful!
The best review I've seen! Thanks for sharing!
Aw thanks Sal- so glad you're enjoying the Clarisonic Mia- a truly awesome product!
This is the first video I've watched of yours and halfway through, I subscribed. I really like your overall approach, your honesty and how thorough you are, as you describe the product(s). Plus, you have a definite warmth about you that makes it feel as though you're just a girlfriend having a fun chat with us. Today, I bought this powder (in N20), and I couldn't wait to get home to try it over my foundation (the same one you're wearing in this video in N20!) It's going to take me some getting used to, but what I think I noticed and liked straight away is that this powder gives a nice sort of "blurring" effect, as though it's softening and smoothing the skin. It's almost like a subtle filter in powder form. Thank you for your review and demonstration. It's nice to hear that your opinions basically echo my own. :)
Yes! Love it for heavy coverage / smoothing.
awesome review, it was so helpful for me! I finally bought les beiges in the same shade 50 as a contour a few weeks ago and I love it! I think the contrast between les beiges as a contour and my skintone isn't too harsh 'cause it's so easy to blend what I love about les beiges. lots of love from germany xoxo
I'm planning to get the N50 shade or the soleil tan de Chanel for an Asian fair? I use MAC NC20 and Chanel Vita aqualumiere N10
I mostly use the no 30 all over on its own. Works for my light skin like a foundation.
Great video Jodi - very helpful!!!! Thinking about getting this...... have a great week xox
its definately going on the wish list! love your makeup today! i got my clarasonic mia for my birthday and im loving it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my skin feels so smooth and clean :)
Great video! I really like it as a touching up powder, that little brush is so handy! I have shade 40 which is fine for a light dusting but concentrated, makes for a good contour shade for my NC40-42/Chanel 50 skintone.
You always are my fab Aussie youtuber Annnnnnd you always show my dream products so I may have to give up something this month to buy these powders
You have such a beautiful skin without foundation !
Yay! Hope you like them x
I JUST bought it today. Just looking for a lux touch up powder and for the cute compact. 😉😋
Thanks for the video..it is a very helpful. I have been wondering if I should buy the mac MSF natural or the Channel la beige.
Amazing review. Very helpful. Thank so much!!!
great video!! Really helpful!
Thank you for this video! I think I will try one of the Les Beiges. I really like the colourless Smooth Operator tarte Micronized Clay Finishing Powder. It blurs fine lines (really!). I lightly dust it over my undereye concealer to set it and it really helps with keeping the concealer from settling into fine lines and wrinkles. I also use it on fine lines around my chin and mouth - it really does have that 'blurring' effect.
I'm so excited to try these. I already preordered mine from nordstrom this passed weekend. Their supposed to arrive mid August here in the states. The kabuki that goes with it is so cute too but don't know if its worth the price.
Thank you very much for your in depth and honest review. I'm African American, and I have oily skin. I use mac select cover up concealer as well as Mac mineralize skin finish in dark. I'm hoping this will work on top as a sheer powder for my skin tone and type. I don't like a lot of coverage as my skin is clear . I'd love your opinion, thanks again.
This powder is amazing for setting makeup. I'm a MAC makeup artist BUT I love all makeup haha and I use the chanel perfection lumiere with this powder and it is amazing. Your select concealer and msf powder from mac in dark paired with this powder in the 70 would be beautiful. You msf in dark offers more coverage than this powder so you could use them in conjunction with each other! Best of luck hon. Oh also I'm jamaican (woc) if that helps or means anything for your answer
Might have to try this as a setting powder; my skin has been so dry lately even though it summer; for some reason going without a powder freaks me out lol but I never get oily at all throughout the day, so this seems like a good option to prevet cakiness
Looks beautiful! Have you noticed if the SPF in this powder causes any flashback?
Thanks for this review!
I pre ordered mine. In 30. Jodi love your reviews! I wear 30 in the foundation compact. Hope it's a good color for me. Honestly I wished you did a video every day!!!
Excited for you! Hope you like them as much as I do! None of my stores have the kabuki- bummed out. Apparently Australia is on backorder- probably trying to support enough stock for US launch! Would love ot hear how you go with them! x
I think they're on pre-order in the US now- with a release of Aug 15 I think from memory?
i have this product...... love love love i also have the number 8 brush that goes hand in hand with the product i find the brush is the best blending brush i have... loved this vid and thanks for the review :)
Oh, what is the lipstick you wore in the picture right at the beginning?? Like warm rosy pink with brown undertone. Im looking for similar lipstick, if you could suggest me just a shade lighter id be soooo obliged! Perhaps ysl rouge volupte or chanel rouge allure?!
You're looking especially beautiful lately. Your skin makes me actually miss bring on Roaccutane. :) thanks for the video!
Love this eye look on you xxx
Very helpful!
jodi have you seen that revlon have finally bought out the nearly naked products in priceline?! I picked up the foundation and the powder yesterday and trying them for the first time today, really like it so far! you're always the first person I think of when I see new products :)
I was at the chanel counter in Kansas and they were not out yet a few weeks ago, maybe they are now though?
Now I'm really excited for their release in the States! Thanks for the fab vid! :D
I know Im quite off topic but do anyone know of a good place to watch new tv shows online ?
@Derek William Lately I have been using flixzone. You can find it on google =)
@Derek William I watch on flixzone. You can find it on google :)
@Derek William try FlixZone. Just google for it =)
Hi Jodi,U look amazing as always! Great review..I just went to my Chanel counter,to see them..I love them,so i have the color 20 and will be getting a couple more soon.Just a lil FYI they are discontinuing the 20 peche tendre..and all of the bronzers,so i picked up a back up of the 20 peche tendre,i use it under my eyes and center of my face..I love their translucent powders too.But i feel these are so soft and i love the glow frm within,In the US colors start at 10..So happy..much luv..xo
This was a very good review. Took away my "lemming" because let's face it, I don't have much extra money right now, lol. You gave it a great review but thanks to you, I've saved some $ because it doesn't pack much of a punch - and that's what I look for in a powder. Which brings me to my favourite powder: Laura Mercier mineral foundation powder - can't beat that glow that lasts all day. You hair looks beautiful x
The NARS is a lovely product- have you tried the pressed? Do you prefer the loose to the pressed? I"m still trying to figure out a difference, but love both the NARS (The ambient I only have in Dim and have developed quite a dislike for it- still waiting for Diffused and Luminous to come from the US after ordering a while ago before they launched here).... Want to compare all 3 brands of powders...
Elise- so subjective- depends on what you like and what you already have! Chanel's coming out with 6 new gorgeous cream blushes next weekend, so I would check those out. These powders are beautiful if you want to splurge... You can't go past a great foundation- can't recommend which without knowing what you like and skin type... Dior also has a beautiful Nude Tan Coral duo compact out that's limited edition that you may like... MAC must be getting their Metallic & Nude collection out soon too...
Hey Jodes can you please do a review on the new Maybelline 24hr Superstay Powder? :)
Great review :) my favorite finishing powder is Nars Radiant loose powder. The Hourglass ambient powder is nice too but still prefer the Nars. Thank you for sharing :) Elsa
Would love to hear what you end up scoring! x
Love my one but we didn't get the 10# in the Perth store I go to :( so I bought the #20 . Still a great product x
You're right- Top ingredient : (
I've added ingredient list to description bar in case it helps others (Chanel don't make it easy to find sometimes). What's your favourite talc free powder? x
Uuurgh you make me want to buy it!
Thanks for the reply (: I'll have to go check out some of your recommendations! Althoug, over the weekend I did some damage at mac and came out with 2 eye shadows (Vibrant grape + Trax) and a mineralize skin finish (lights capade). Fortunately they were all covered by the vouchers! Would love to see a plummy eye shadow look from you! xo Elise
Wow- thanks- that's a great compliment! : )
Ooooh I think I got these last April from Lord & Taylor in the US
Jodi! i just got almost $300 worth in myer vouchers and was wondering what you think i should pick up! thanks so much xo
what shade did you used ??thanks
i had been at a chanel counter a while back w/a friend. we were asking about new bronzers (we'd heard they were coming out w/some) and she told us about these. at the time, we didnt' realize they also came lighter? we've been patiently wtg for them eversince!! we're supposed to get calls when in. (should have actually been by now?) i want light for touch up while my friend wants 1 of each! lol..so excited!! why are we last i ask? darn...lol
Understand Kymmie! I've only tried the Dim and not impressed. Still awaiting a friend to ship the Diffused and Luminous from a US order back in March! Hoping they're a little more impressive than the Dim which leaves me feeling exactly that!
Thinking of trying the Hourglass in Luminous next. Now only have the lavender/pink one in Mood. It is an ok powder but still prefer the Nars Radiant loose powder. BTW I think you will LOVE the new Chanel cream blushes. They are amazing in texture and staying power. Last all day into the night. I got Presage and Fantastic and after trying went back and got Destiny :) Thinking I need Affinite 2 :) Looking forward to your review/comparison of all the Finishing powders. :)Have a good weekend :) Elsa
Ooohhh so luxurious. Can you compare/dupe them to any other similar products? Is the MSF natural comparable? (Love the kitten collar bell sounds in the last couple of minutes hehe)
Great review Jods! I'm going to pass on these:). I need to use up my stash starting with my HG ambient powders:)
@RubySlippers95, I personally contour my nose because it is slightly crooked! It helps make it look a bit straighter & just a tad shorter, which I need! LOL
eyes look beautiful jodi! also, i find it funny that "we" sometimes know our own faces better than the "so called" experts! i've had my makeup done at a chanel counter twice, and i can say that tho the 1st time was good (except for the undereyes not being concealed very well), the 2nd time was horrible! i looked better going in than i did coming out! even my husband commented on how bad my makeup looked! so i'm not surprised at all that you knew which shade was better for your needs!!
I have Benefit's Hoola in my collection, do I need Chanel #50?
That's a tough one! Regarding Hourglass, I've only tried Dim which was my 3rd choice- stll waiting on a friend to ship me Diffused & Luminous that I ordered in the US back in March - could be a lot better than Dim which I am not impressed by!). NARS is beautiful and smoothing and veil-like too without any added coverage (or strong fragrance), whilst the Chanel will give a similar effect but with some / sheer coverage- to me it's between NARS and Chanel and comes down to coverage & fragrance. HTH
I found Talc makes me break out so I've started paying more attention to ingredient lists. I only found this out recently so I haven't found a good powder that is Talc free yet. If you find any, please do a review. I love your channel!
Loved this review and demo! Thanks!!! Love your eye look but can't find the link to it... ={
Well I did try Nars Radiant powder in pressed form and didn't like the feel of it. Felt like hard plastic 2 me. That is my impression but others have tried say it is similar 2 the loose powder.I prefer the loose form and find it very finely milled, soft and lovely and it even helps control shine on my TZone. The Hourglass doesn't. The Nars also on my skin sets concealer under the eyes beautifully and gives a nice glow. I took back the Hourglass Diffused.Thought it didn't do anything 4 me. :(
Just picked up N 10:)
like your look after the 10-hour test :)
great review. thanks;)
Cheers for letting me know! Have just added it (second link in description bar) whoops! ; )
Jealous of your brush! I can't find one at my Chanel counters around town- on backorder for a while now apparently!
is this an actual setting powder or is the intended purpose a finisher?
I’m guessing either? Chanel’s description includes “for makeup that stays put from morning to evening”, but overall I do think it’s all about the finish. Clear as mud?
Not a bad idea! What would you like to see? - somethign like my top picks from this years' faves vids? Nice idea..
do you think this is them?
Looks so beautiful on you! I'm bummed it has talc =(
Thanks lovely! Yes, I feel that way when someone else does my makeup- I've been anything but horrified only once- and like you, it's not just 'getting used' to slightly different style / colours, it's bad bad technique or application. Like the liner's not straight, or the shadow's not smooth- eww!! Not a nice experience! Wish I could go sit down and be stunned with the results- makes me realize how few and far between good MUA's are!
Does this power have a smell ?
It has a slight floral Chanel fragrance to it, yes
Thank you, Jodi! ;') I have a $100 gift card to the department store and I have a feeling at least some of that will be spent on Chanel! Actually, more than some, haha.
Thank you! They're worth doing to comment on the wear, but by the end of the day my lighting is next to awful and I feel so haggard! You're very kind! x
Hi love...i must check this out ...it looks great on you...you remind me of Kate Middleton! xo CAROL
That kitten! He ued to get around the lighting and camera but at least be silent until we got him his bell! I'm sure you'll be hearing more of that!! The Chanel is most similar to NARS Light Diffusing powders in the sheer smoothing effect, but offers slight coverage and also has fragrance. It is similar to the MAC in the sheer coverage but the MAC is more buildable, more prone to caking and not as smoothing..
you hit it right on the head! that time she used a DARK matte green on my lids, and then also used a dark green liner!! you really didn't notice anything about the liner being there EXCEPT that it wasn't placed correctly!!! lol..and then she used a new mascara on me that was that new green khaki/gold which got so washed out it wasn't funny!! i looked like a raccoon when i left! and it was hard to contain my "unhappiness"!! had to lie..but i tnk my initial gasp may have given it away!! lol
isn't she work for Bobbi brown ?
I'm going to guess it was lozcurtis??
I've received great advice from MUA's at counters, but I think I've actually received MORE bad advice, or straight up lies (including from a popular gooroo here on youtube that lied to my face when she worked at a counter when she answered a question that she actually didn't know the answer to- nothing makes me angrier than lies to cover up ignorance- it's OK to say, "you know what? I don't know....let's find out...") They can be quite conservative too sometimes- not my style! You're so sweet: )
