Golg mk4 makes some emotions in cruising across streets or working with it's stearing wheel in some powerslide. It is a car that delivers power from first gear from 3100 revs. It is a vehicle that stands the years very well both in bodywork and mechanics. Although it is uncomfortable to drive in town, it is very comfortable to drive on secondary roads.

I own that exact car. It's underpowered imo. Driving in the city is OK, but never go to serpentines. Sometimes you have to go to 1st gear to drive up serpentines... Also overtaking is dangerous because of lack of power...
I've had a mk4 1.9 pd150 gt tdi mapped to 190hp but rust and other engine issues killed it so now im in a 1.6 16v that is 103hp, This feels painfully slow at times I can only imagine what the 1.4 feels like

@@safersisic9562 i know it is on bad shape, but most of them sound like this, tappety and clicky since they crap piston rings, crap alloys used in the block construction, which is aluminum. Most of them need segmentation at barely 150k km, whereas the tdis in this generation easily do over 500k. All in all a failure, the 1.6 8v ASR engine that is from golf 3 is a much better and stronger engine.
My dad has a mk 4 that sounds way better, maybe bc we’re both mechanics that take care of it, or it is the fat v5 in the car? But it sure doesn’t sound like crap and i know that for a fact

One of my relatives had a Golf 4, like 5-6 years ago but it was 1.9 TDI…it was very practical, fun and reliable (he now has a 2003 Passat which it’s also 1.9 TDI, but not reliable as that Golf 4 he had)
I had this car as my first, it only costed me 600 to buy with 160k Kilometers down. I made inspection 100 euros, 4 new tires 200 Euros und 100 Euros for new oil, filters etc. So all in all I payed 1000 Euros and that is so cheap and I drove so much with it . 160 on Autobahn no Problem for 200 Kilometers straight multiple times.
I had several Golf For me, the best generation are the IV the II and more recently the VII, Those 3 generations are really in advance comparatively to the others cars.

Used to own 1.6l estate as my first car, worse thing about this car were the doors, they often freeze turning winter and wouldn't stay shut had to literally use fire from lighter to get the door latch working.😅

For me only the central lock never worked, like everytime you open and someone wants to enter on the passenger seat, you say waaaaait, have to open from inside, or even worse, only the driver door locks. So you gotta go around and lock every door manually...
Cool 450€, here in Ukraine you can buy that for about 4k before last changes in tax rules, now about 2,5k I suppose bought my wagon for 4.5r usd and now after all fixes and repairs spendings moved over 10k USD, but I still like it

1.6 has way more problems. The 1.4 is kinda a pretty good engine. The knocking sound you hear with 1.4 doesnt cause major damage btw
