- One of a million ways to light a night interior. Chasing that cinematic look isn’t always easy, but when you are in a situation without a lot of lighting equipment, you can sell the look if you work within your contraints. Then, when you have the proper resources you can greatly improve upon that look.
I have been using audiio for the past few months, with great success, for all music and SFX in my videos. this video is not sponsored by audiio but I have a cool project coming up with them. Check them out here: audiio.com/blainewestropp

The mystery light used was the Zhiyun Fiveray M20C and here is a link for that. It’s great! I think this is an affiliate link but not positive lol. store.zhiyun-tech.com/?ref=ws...

Lastly, I graded this to make it look better on TH-cam. The look I really want is darker and has less contrast, but very dark images without a lot of contrast do not look so good on TH-cam. There was also a lot of noise reduction added in davinci resolve to help with the YT compression, which creates some visible artifacts. But all of this is outside of the overall quick look at trying to get some dark cinematic lighting. - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
The mystery light is the Zhiyun Fiveray M20C and I love it! I may have a discount for y’all so let me know if you want it.
Great breakdown brutha! This M20C is super fun to play with, its come in clutch on a few shoots already
Criminally underrated!

Haha thank you
love these types of videos. very meditative
thank you. I like making them bc I myself always learn something when doing it, which is cool.
It's always awesome when family or a s/o helps. My son helped me do a scary trailer. People loved his acting.
Love it. I’ve had family members and the model in this video help me on shoots before and it’s great. Glad they liked your son’s acting!

Adding it to the "Lighting things good" Playlist, yeeeeee
I’m honored :)
if you actually have a playlist of great lighting tutorials on TH-cam, it would be awesome if you made it public. I looked on your page to see if it existed haha

This is great! Really informative and practical. What ISO was this shot at? I've been learning about exposure recently and how filmmakers use a low ISO for dark scenes to retain detail in the shadows and a high one in brighter scenes to retain details in highlights.
How would this apply in the lighting setup you've done?
Thank you. This was shot at 800. It was also denoised in davinci resolve. There wasn’t a lot of noise, and if this was going in a theater I would not have denoised. I only did it so it would look better on TH-cam, as YT doesn’t like darker footage. And yes you can lower your iso in darker scenes for a cleaner image. I personally don’t do that too often, but it works. I very often shoot brighter scenes at higher ISOs though!
@@BlaineWestropp1 Thanks for responding! What ISOs do you tend to use in day interiors and exteriors? 1600 I'm guessing
What lens were you using? I can see is an anamorphic lens but wondering which one?
at the moment, I can't say. stay tuned!

What size light were you using camera left as key?
Finally someone asks! It was about 3x3 inches. More info soon.
@@BlaineWestropp1 yeah seemed interesting given you had a small room and were able to modify it so easily
aputure MC pro?@@BlaineWestropp1
It’s not an MC pro, though I do want some of those!
@@BlaineWestropp1 which light is it?
Do you have updated footage of darkening the scene in post?
Hey what do you mean? Can you clarify? Thanks!
@@BlaineWestropp1 I think I misunderstood. At around 1:55 you'd mentioned intensifying the brightness across all sources and I probably told myself that was something you'd done as part of this video, then darkened in post.
Ahh yeah I didn’t do that in this video. That’s just something you can do in darker scenes. I have a video about that though where I show how shooting really bright and bringing it down in post yields super clean images. Here’s a link to it: th-cam.com/video/vW9oyS4nqgk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4jBpc-UyHtqYb9zu
@@BlaineWestropp1 Thanks man. Just curious, do you have any book recos that focus on lighting - both theory and practice?
