Almost bought one a week or so ago but man, I’m getting tired of all these electronics without replaceable batteries. Just had to toss a pair of $180 Bluetooth headphones b/c after 1.5 years of regular use they wouldn’t hold a charge. With how many of these kind of devices are being sold now, that’s going to equal an unimaginable amount of e-waste in a short amount of time. If Zhiyun came out with one of these with swappable batteries I’d buy one in a heartbeat.
That's true tbh. Really, that is my biggest downside too. But even if the battery is dead someday, you can power the lights with a powerbank or a power adapter. Of course, this makes them a bit less portable, but at least they don't need to be thrown away. More skilled users could actually switch the internal battery, as it is a standard size.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Are you aware of any small RGB lights that do not have any batteries at all for permanent studio installations with usb/ac power?
I got gifted one of these by zhiyun at xmas on tiktok. i couldn't believe it.......I've never won anything before. I love it. i use it all the time, especially for learning macro photography. i also have the crane m3s too, for my Sony zv e10. Great video very informative 😊
Mark, thanks for the fine video. Good review of an interesting light. And, I found I was already subscribed. Fan noise: I doubt most of us watching on TH-cam can get useful information by trying to hear fan noises. I would suggest using a program such as Audacity to record both the noise and your voice and noting the db levels of each. Your voice might distort briefly, but we would then know how quiet or loud it really is.
I used to record and show the decibels, but I found it served no practical help. hearing how loud it sounds in the room seems to help. but for reference, my voice was about 70db and the fan was about 35
Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it. The whole Zhiyun light line is spectacular value for the money. If I were building out a new studio from the ground up, I would likely go with Zhiyun from top to bottom. I'm currently finishing out my garage "studio" so I will likely go with lights that match my color scheme of the garage (that way if they're in the shot it looks planned) but then I will be turning my attention to the office "studio". Might go with some of these since it's such a smaller space.
Amazing video!! That intro!! LOL hahahaa. I solved most of my questions about this light in the intro, but I watched the whole video for all the great info! Cheers, Mark! Thanks for another cool video! Also, I didn't know that you had Evos on the East Coast too!
This looks like a great little light. I love that it has additional diffusion, honeycomb and barn doors. I'm looking for fill lights for shooting videos at my computer where my desk is up against the wall. Do you think this is good for a home office / video set up? Like you, I'm not into fan noise but my mic "should" be far enough away as to not pick it up.
Great video! really tempted to buy one of these.. 2 questions: 1. does it get too hot to hold by hand at 100% after a while? 2. does the cage affect the cooling? and does it get hot?
Great video, well done ! Do you think the Zhiyun FiveRay M20C can light up someone sufficiently outdoors at night, at a distance of 5m ? Do you think its fan noise would be noticeably heard in the video footage of a dji osmo pocket 3 when attached to it ?
Hii mark i finally decided to buy new camera and confused in a7c ( in 1400 dollars) or a6700(in 1550 dollars) would you pls suggest (upgrading from a6500)
I bought two of them on release, just because I think they are pretty cool. Really great light. What would be great is a little Softbox for them. Because even with Diffusor the light is very "spotty". Does someone have an idea for this?
I got 2 of them after I saw your video, they are great. Except for one thing, I am only getting about 20 minutes of run time out of them. They are set at 100% and 4200k, aside from turning it down to about 75% how can I extend the run time?
Great video - I want one! Are you able to test whether this can be controlled by Alexa or a similar smart light hub? Also, how does the fan noise compare to SmallRig 120D?
It can plug into the wall by USBC so I'm sure you can control it with Alexa to turn on and off - but you can't communicate to it directly. The smallrig 120D will be much more silents because the fan won't kick on with that light anywhere near as much and the 120D is quiter when it does kick on. Now get back to drawing.
Hey Mark, looks interesting. Anyway, I have a question: seems like the charging connector is from the top. Bit strange, but the main questing is: is it possible to charge the light when having the cage attached, or do I need to take the cage away for charging? (it is for purpose of simultaneous charging and lighting)
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Ah no worries. Basically it was the bomb 5 years ago. They made a few cool products like the LumeCube... Unfortunately Litra was bought out by logitec and now their focus has shifted away from camera lighting... :(
9:45 As usual with these Apps, there are *ALWAYS* leftovers from the Chinese UI. I have an other brand with even more untranslated Chinese all over its buttons and toggles...
I am so annoyed with you Mark...Always making me want to get new gear!!! I love the idea of getting compact lights etc. I still don't own any massive lights because I just dislike how it all looks, especially post filming.
The worst light I've ever tested, at 20% power the fan makes already a deafening noise, practically unusable for my videos. It's a shame because the underlying idea was very, very interesting.

That’s a good point. Would prob be able to mount a small power bank on one of the cold shoes to keep it relatively compact
@@jamesloop I use Festool and Makita batteries with a power adapter for this. But yes, that's working.

Zhiyun is making some good value products, atm. Fantastic review, as always ❤
That is a powerful light for trunk vlogging. It would be neat if you got a fireplace for your set.
but then I’d need a cozy sweater!!
Great video Mark! this light si fantastic as you say. Greetings from Argentina. Maby an LED light behind the logo "camera crisis" will be great!
Yes - there are some back there if you can believe it - but the sign is a solid metal so it isn’t showing up - playing with some solutions now
Too late I have the Aputure MC but... great lights for sure, great video... super fun intro 👍
can’t go wrong with those Aputure lights

A little diffuser umbrella would do the trick. And you can get a nightstand adapter to hold the umbrella amzn.to/3wcel5q and amzn.to/495cfCR
I believe Mark meant a “lightstand adapter” although Mark might use a nightstand adapter for his umbrella. LOL

Can you help me with an example please?
Yes via usb c
Wait I missed it, nothing about the battery? Is it a Sony battery? Can you add 230v to it to power it longer?
Built in rechargeable battery. Can be used plugged into to usbc. Last 50mm s on max power. 3 hours on 25% power

The fan is loud if close to your ears or the mic, but in many cases the fan noise won’t interfere depending on the location
So I think it’s a problem of my unit because it’s very very loud compared to other lights that I have. Thank you
