  • This video will cover one of my favorite multitools. The multitool is a Russian multitool and in traditional Russian fashion it's very simple and durable and designed for years of hard use. Those can be found on the internet for around $100 usd and usually come with a nice pouch and a sharpening stone. I love the design of this it's very big it fits in the jeans well and everything is accessible from the outside and most of the tools are one hand accessible. Hopefully you liked this video and subscribed if you like this sort of stuff. Please leave a comment with any questions, additional information, or suggestions for future videos and I will do my best to answer them. As always thanks for watching.
    Thank you,
    Devin K.

      Exactly! I realized it at the first look. It has a crimper for blast cap, The blade point is not tanto stuff but to trim detonating cord.

    I have one. It's not built like a civillian multi tool, more of a job specific tool, a field tool for soldiers. The centrally placed crimping pliers are no good for some general uses oweing to their position and the shoulders of the tool being in the way. I believe they are for wiring and setting land mines, crimping to cables.
    The blade and saw are only separated from the frame by thin poly washers, soft ones too. I think the square ended/blunt end stump is more of a window smasher, not a screwdriver unless there are some especially giant slotted screws out there. The 'U' shaped cut-out in the end of the saw looks like it might be intended for stripping/cutting the sleeve from thicker cable.....and opening cans from 1945 !
    As for cleaning off the cosmoline, I partially stripped down the tool to clean it, it was the only way and it comes apart easily. Just keep your eye on where the bushes and washers are supposed to go. Mine had/has slight rust on the rear of the belt clip.
    It's a crude tool. Useful but crude. I like it.

      @@pixeltoxa9284 I just got mine... It's not that great. From all the reviews I expected the blade to be better... I would not call the blade very thick... If you were in a war and had to kill someone's ass with the knife I could see the blade just snapping because it's long and skinny.

    I’d say it’s more along the lines of an EOD multi tool based on the style of pliers/crimper. Bad ass tool, need to get me one. Great review

    Thanks for the review Devin. If you don't mind, could you tell me the overall length? I'm in the market for a tough multitool with minimum tools like this one but I need it to fit inside the accessory pouch of a combat master sheath. I have a leatherman super tool 300 and it fits well but just not diggn it for the same reasons that you mentioned. Especially trying to use a screwdriver that is mounted eccentrically, I like the T-handle of this design.

      Loverock it’s really long pretty close to 6 inches

    • @Mark008able
      @Mark008able 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. might not fit the pouch securely enough as only about an inch of velcro would be secured if that. Still might have to find away to make it work as this tool fits the bill otherwise.

  • @SpaceDave3000

    The deployment for the awl and the screwdriver is pretty cool, you should have shown it. You have to fully open the pliers and the jaw pushes the phillips out, then at the other end you roll the pliers locking piece down and it pushes the awl out.

    Lots of MTs have outside one handed opening. Common! Those that do not are a style you like or don't.
    The Russian MT has a can opener. Did you see?
    Lots of decent MTs at same or cheaper price if you shop around. Most US MTs are Chinese made now.
    But the real issue is the steel. If it is not brittle, and the knife holds an edge. That saw--can you demo? They worry me a bit.
    Pliers don't seem to open much. Maybe reflects bolts encountered by Russian troops?
    I love the tool set, and the heaviness. Even if not a high quality stainless, and will rust easily. Have you really banged on it and torqued it?
    BIG need for genuine heavy field MT. Only a few heavy duty Western MTs. Leatherman Surge. Victorinox SwissTool.
    Thanks for exposing us to this tool. Perfect for our armoured corps--if the metal is right.

    • @DevinK
      @DevinK  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Siegel this tool does have a decent steel for what it is and how fast these are made. It isn’t the prettiest and it Russian so the finish isn’t perfect but it works. This does need to be greased or it will rust. I’ve banged up this tool quite hard a few times and it’s held up quite well and I still rather like it

      @@DevinK I just want to note that this thing looks incredibly lacking in every way compared to the Surge...or almost any heavy duty multitool.
      Like...seriously, the steel looks awful, it's too heavy and bulky for its usefulness, the design is severely limited even when compared to other EOD-focused MTs, and the side-scales look like something out of the 80s which could break your hand, or at least fatigue you, with continued heavy usage. Not to mention the awful user safety considerations; they put a crab claw can opener that requires stabbing and prying on the end of a double-edged saw?!?! This thing is more likely to injure the user than to open a can!
      I'm kinda shocked that the Russian Federation ever approved this thing as a current generation military multitool.

      @@DevinK ...in all seriousness, though, I want one just as a curiosity in my collection. Not for $75 USD when I still lack several famous staples of MTs that I could actually use well (eg: Crunch, MP600, OHT, most of the SOG library, etc).
      But...yeah...this thing is just shockingly bad. It makes me wonder what MTs other militaries around the world use, though I can't find info on many of them. Oddly enough, I can't find what MT the PRC uses, which is surprising to say the least.
