Hey Mr.Ballen, wanted to be early just to say that I started watching you over two years ago and I remember binge watching your videos as if they were episodes from my favorite tv-show. Your way of story telling is highly entertaining, you seem very genuine, not to mention you’re my go-to when I feel stressed or anxious.

My father has a similar story as James. He lived in Hawaii in the 60s and an undertow dragged him and his friend far out from shore. While they were swimming back, his friend was making headway, but every time my dad came up for air, a wave crashed on his head. Nobody was around and no one saw him because of how far out he was. He was close to drowning when a man appeared out of nowhere next to him and told him what to do. He said that when the waves comes, go under water and swim with that wave and come up for air after it passes. That's exactly what he did and he was getting closer to land with this mysterious blonde man by his side. And at one time he went down and came back up, the man disappeared and he couldn't find him when he got to shore. He firmly believes it was an Angel

The human mind is an amazing thing. It's so amazing it can even fool itself into believing things to survive. It's utility ultimately fails when it comes to critical thinking though i.e. angels. I'm glad your father survived though.

@RapturianCitizen I agree. While as a Jehovah's Witness, I do believe we are guided by Him through His angels, I don't believe in guardian angels. I understand that the mind has many capabilities that we can not always explain, and can make us see and hear things that are not really there. Schizophrenia is obviously a prime example of this, but also, when your brain is in survival mode, or in a fragile state, it can cause you to have very unusual experiences. A great movie that demonstrates this, and is somewhat inspired by an actual true life experience, is Michael Powell's and Emeric Pressburger's A Matter of Life and Death (1946).

Hi John! I just wanted to say that my father (who passed away 2 years ago due to complications with COVID and COPD) introduced me to you when you were first starting out.
About a year after his death I was watching one of your videos and I came across a playlist that my dad had created on my account with your videos. I sat on the side of my bed and binge watched them all until I got to the last one and it looked like another one of your videos but when I played it, it was a hidden video my Dad had made, and in that video he told me that he hoped I enjoyed the playlist and recommended some other videos to watch as well. He ended the video by saying I love you and that he was proud of his Marine son and that he would be with me always, no matter where I ended up.
It shocked me and made me sob like a little baby. You were his favorite storyteller. And because of him, you are mine as well. Thank you for all you do and I’m with ya till the end!

This type of thing happened to my cousin when she was in a horrible car accident years ago, her car flipped over several times and landed upside. A woman right away stuck her hand into my cousins car and actually handed her her pocket book that flew out of the car and told her that everything was fine and that an ambulance was on its way and stayed outside the car talking to her keeping my cousin awake since she was in a lot of pain and was fading in and out of consciousness. When the ambulance came the woman was gone and it was a male motorist down a ways that saw what happened that had called the ambulance, nobody saw this woman that gave my cousin this moral support and handed her her pocket book. Even my cousin had only saw this womans hand and heard her voice throughout the whole ordeal, never her face or anything else...

I actually had a similar experience with the 3rd story, but it was in a mall. I was pretty young back then (say, around 4-5 y/o), and there was a boy (probably same age as me) who kept urging me to go play with him in the parking lot, so I followed him outside the mall to play (with my father in tow). Literally moments later, I heard an explosion inside the mall. When I tried looking for the boy, he was nowhere to be seen. I asked my father if he had seen Kino (the boy's name), and he had this really confused look on his face and basically told me I was talking to myself and he had to follow me outside because I was running off.

I loved James story (and the others similar in this comment section). During WW2, my grandfather was in Ireland building Lockheed P-38. One day he was under one of these planes and heard a voice yell at him to 'Get Out Quickly'. He grabbed the man next to him and roll them both out from under the plane right before it smashed to the ground. If he hadn't heard "someone" tell him to get out, both men would have been dead.

My dad has what he calls his "Angel story" Back when he was a fire fighter he was at a particularly bad house fire. He was carrying the line up stairs to try and get at the second floor to fight the fire. He felt a tap on his shoulder and a voice that said "We have to go this place is not safe" He left and shortly after either that floor exploded or collapsed I can't remember which. He later ask his fellow fire fighters who the lineman was that tapped on his shoulder and they said he went in alone and no one else was there. This may be that 3rd man effect but my dad truly believes he had a guardian angel watching his back that day. If he hadn't left when he did I probably wouldn't be here typing this story.

My father in law got in a bad car wreck as a teen where he went over a bridge into a very deep creek and he swears a little old lady came and pulled his head out of the water and talked to him until help came. He was knocked out and saod she woke him and pulled his head outta the water then said "honey, ya gotta stay awake and keep your head outta the water" and she kinda pet
his head to keep him awake. He said he dozed off for what seemed like a second and woke back up with cops and paramedics talking to him and he asked them about the older lady because she saved him. They said "buddy you were alome with your entire body in the water but your head was on a big rock but no lady. " He even told his mother to go back to the area and knock on doors to find her and nobody knew of any older lady that fit her description and said they dont see a older woman being able to get down to where he was because it was steep.

I firmly believe the human mind is the most remarkable thing on this planet. My understanding from the third person effect is that most likely our subconscious mind/instincts move to the front in desperate times of need where we may have given up or we get pushed unconscious but seriously need to be awake due to the situation we're in. Since we see the world the way we do, it manifests motivation as voices or people to get our bodies moving to safety.

In regards to the last story of the fantom voice, I more or less have had a similar experience. A buddy and I fell through ice on a lake, I remember trying to climb out and every time I would like my body up back onto the ice it would break away and I would find myself back in the freezing cold water. The ice was sharp cutting up my arms and hands. After a while of trying I almost gave up and the only thing that made me keep trying was I saw my mom crying on the couch with my stepdad comforting her. It was like I was actually there witnessing it and hearing her screaming and crying. I snapped back into reality and heard a voice telling me exactly how I needed to crawl and sprawl out my body so I wouldn’t break the ice getting out. I ended up finally getting out, (obviously) and was able to get my friend out. Very interesting how it all worked out.

One story of the Third Man Effect that stuck with me (I was 12), was of this former gang member from Detroit. He was volunteering at a hospital I was staying in for a research study. Really don’t recall how we got to this topic. But he said the only reason he was alive was because of his great-great-grandfather. He’d gotten into a fight with another gang, and he’d been shot, four times, in the chest. But he heard an old man’s voice saying, “Get up. Get up, son.” Somehow, he did, and felt hands on his arms, steadying him, and giving him a gentle push. Thinking it was an enemy, he tried to run, then stopped and looked back. No one was there. But on his trip to the hospital, he kept hearing this man, and saw him a few times. When he later described the man to his parents, he was told that it matched what his great-great-grandfather looked like.
That story just stuck with me these past twenty years.

The 3rd person thing is definetly a real thing. I've experienced it first hand snowboarding out in the back country with some friends. Our ride was picking us up at a specific time before sundown at our dropoff location. We ended up getting lost on thw hike back to the road. I remember seeing a person at the top of one of the random hills around where we were. It looked like a woman, she was jumping up and down and waving at us. We hiked up to where she was and it ended up being a vantage point where we could see the road thru the trees like 200 meters away. There was no sign of anyone else being on that hill, it was knee height powder. We would have seen some trail. Anyways we went down to the road and our ride finally came up and saw us waiting about a mile down the road from our original pick up location. If we wouldn't have seen that "person" we would have never made it to the road, we were hiking away from it! Still trips me out that we didn't see any sign of them, we literally hiked up the hill right to where we last saw them. Nothing there at all, just untouched snow.

He and another person were on a life raft shortly after their ship broke apart during an intense storm on Lake Huron on November 29, 1966. He said while he was freezing, he felt thirsty and wanted to suck on the ice formed on the raft but an old man appeared behind him and told him not to do that because it would make his body go into hypothermia and that help was on the way. Shortly after a Helicopter found him and rescued him but the other passenger on the raft passed away. Look up his story, it's pretty interesting.

I listen to classical and imagine what a ballet would look like. Kinda choreograph it in my head. I also work out putting together videos to go along with a love song for my husband. Back in early 2000's in Interlachen, FL, we had a kid named Jerry Alley Jr. Go missing. It became a national story. After a few days, a lady went to police and said she had a vision/dream of Jerry's body being in a hole on an empty lot, covered by something. Police located an empty lot with an old septic tank covered with a pallet. Unfortunately, they did find Jerry's body in there. They arrested a kid(John Silva) I grew up with, who lived across the street from my aunt. He was severely autistic and one of the nicest, most respectful kids you'd ever meet. The day Jerry went missing, I saw John, Jerry and three brothers named the McComsky's all riding their bikes. The brothers were nothing but trouble. Each one had been arrested numerous times as juveniles. They were scum. A couple of days before police found Jerry's body, the youngest brother made a smartass comment/joke on the bus about maybe Jerry slipped in some mud and fell in a hole and hit his head. After the discovery I went to police and told them what he had said but they quickly turned me away and said they knew they had their guy. To this day, in the bottom of my heart, I still do not believe that John Silva killed Jerry. I still believe it was the brothers and they knew that John was mentally incapable and threatened him if he said anything. He's serving a life sentence.

Fascinating to hear about the 3rd man thing...when my dad was a teenager he was swimming in the sea and got dragged out and under by the current. He couldn't fight it and accepted that he would die. Then out of nowhere someone appeared above him holding their hand out and pulled him to the surface, and managed to get him back to the beach. Next thing he knew, his parents were over the top of him asking if he was okay. They'd just found him lying in the sand barely breathing. They never saw anyone bring my dad out of the water and no one has ever been able to come up with an explanation as to why someone would rescue him but then not try to find his family or anyone else to help him further. I had no clue other people had experienced this so I'm quite interested in that story :)

I have heard a similar voice as Etta that led me to saving my daughter from drowning. My daughter was by the pool with my entire family. My husband thought my mom was watching her, my mom thought my husband was watching her and it turns out no one was watching her. The voice yelled "follow me". I was on the first floor of a hotel and did not even know where the pool was at this point. However, I, "intuitively" knew exactly where to go and as I ran towards the pool I knew I had to look towards the water and I saw dark hair floating above the water. I ran towards it and pulled my daughter out. This was not the first nor the last time I heard this voice but it was definitely the most memorable time for me since it led me to saving my baby's life. The first time was when I was a teenager and my sister, friend and I were on the verge of getting hurt by a gang of 8 males. The voice, once again, saved us by guiding me and telling me what to say throughout the ordeal.

It was God. God warns us demonic evil spirits do exist and can trick us, but God sends us angels or he himself gets directly involved. If it was an evil spirit, it would not have allowed a child to be saves or desired it.

I had a similar experience when my son went missing, except I saw what I can only describe as an old school map, the kind they had in the 1970s, pink, and green, yellow, etc. Each state a different color. The image showed me exactly where my son was, near the border of California and Arizona. I saw the image around 2 am, as I couldn't sleep because my son was missing and the grief was so profound that I was losing it. Anyway, i decided then and there that I trusted the image so much (what else did I have? Police had done nothing but file a missing person report), so i packed some bags and planned to drive there at first light. I was literally walking to my car to drive away when I got a call from a Sheriff in Arizona. They had found my son, and they had put him on a flight for life helicopter, heading to Las Vegas, Nevada, that being the closest trauma center capable of handling severe head trauma/hemorrhagic strokes. Instead of driving to Arizona, i flew to Vegas. Those images can definitely be trusted!

HOLY HELL I'VE HAD THAT! I didn't know there was a name for it or ever really questioned it! When I was being severely abused as a kid, I had this little girl who looked like an angel who would come into my body and let me go play in a giant picture of a waterfall on the wall in our rental. She was so kind and she gave me the sense that he couldn't hurt her. He was terrible; sometimes he would tell me to say my prayers, that he was going to kill me today, hold a gun in my mouth and then laugh when I cried and say oh maybe tomorrow. She would take over in those moments so I didn't have to be there. She was so beautiful and just... radiated pure love.
I'm not sure what that was. I'm not a religious person. Sometimes I wonder if it was a splitting off of my psyche under such tremendously overwhelming abuse. But who knows?

Well this sound exactly how some people with dissociative identity disorder experienced it as children while they were being abused. I think if continued many enough years, that girl would've grown into a whole other identity and maybe even others to take over the abandoned parts of your conciousness/brain. Appreciating the cabalities of our own brains or some enigma, e.g an angel, or not figuring it out altogether is your justified freedom.

That last story is incredible. I’m more on the side of the voice being a psychological survival response to something extremely traumatic, but in the end, only those who have experienced it could ever really know what it’s like. No matter what the phenomenon is, it saved that man and it has saved the lives of others, and that is truly amazing

Most cops are horrible people. The general public that thinks cops are good, honest and public servants have only seen the “good” side of the police.
All cops have two personalities in them, the one they use for the general public and the one they use on “criminals.”
I’ve come to believe the bad personally is almost always their real personality. The problem is cops think they know who is guilty and who isn’t and their background is usually a high school education, maybe some sports team experience and then they’re surrounded by other cops and criminals l.
It wears off on them and makes them vile & stupid people that have power over others.

The Lincoln story was always an interesting one to me, I remember reading it in a book called “Unknown facts about US history” back in middle school.
He allegedly brought up the potential premonition to Henry Rathbone before the play whom afterwards suggested more security which Lincoln declined.
Rathbone went crazy and actually ended up killing his wife while living in Germany because he could never forgive himself for “failing his duty”.
Truly one of the darkest chain events in known history.

There's two main branches of the Rathbone family, one stayed in England and one came over on the Speedwell (partner ship tp Plymouth I believe). The U.S. Rathbones appeared to split between Rhode Island (my exact line) and New York, which I believe is Henry's exact line. I haven't worked out X number of generations etc. But definitely know we're related.

No flashlight. It was pitch black halfway to their car. All of a sudden a light appeared. NOBODY THERE. It led them down the mountain path to his car. My Mom who was young enough to be on his shoulders (he's six foot three) REMEMBERS all of this. He has dementia but he still remembers this too. Plus the guardian angels that saved my babies. I've read recent Reddit comments throwing criticism at you for becoming more true crime. I was 100% on the side of those that understand how top notch your stuff is. I don't have a good feeling that a lot of folks understand how brutal it is to create good TH-cam videos. I remember reading your reply about how you were severely overextending yourself in those first few years to pump out the constant material you do.
And yet you still make better content than anything else on Netflix, here in TH-cam, Hulu etc. You're super top notch.
I want you to know that you are a PHENOMENAL story teller, and I love every story you tell. I plug you in when I feel anxious or even just when I need to do some extensive boring work. I love your voice, your vibe and your personality. You have a very fatherly, loving and patient way of talking, and even when you're telling stories about some rough stuff you show so much compassion to those you're telling the story about.
I'm a disabled veteran and when I was transitioning back into the working field, you really helped me. I found a job where I could listen to a podcast, and I always chose your stories. And that really helped me calm a lot of my anxiety down.

Yes! Third man effect - about 2 decades ago, a best friend of mine had an accident when she was taking cash out of an ATM and a car spun out of control, crashed into her pinning her to the ATM. The car backed up making her fall to the floor bleeding heavily and losing consciousness. A tall Norwegian looking man appeared before her and told her that it wasn’t her time to die and that she needed to stay awake and not fall asleep. Days later when she recovered at the hospital, she asked about the Norwegian looking man, and everyone told her she was hallucinating. This happened in Hawaii where people would’ve noticed if this was the case! She insists that the man was talking to her as she lay bleeding and was extremely thirsty telling the man she just wants water and to sleep!

When I was a baby my father was trying to get home one night (he traveks daily for work) but the roads were really bad, it was violently snowing, he was way out in the middle of bowhere and wasn't familiar with the area. Out of nowhere, a car pulled out in front of him. My dad just kept telling himself that all he had to do was keep his eyes on their tail lights. He couldn't see the road, but he could see their lights. He followed the car for about a half an hour, it just kept going the way my dad needed to go, and then all of a sudden there were street lights, he knew the intersection he was at and needed to turn, but the other car was going to go straight. He pulled into the turning lane and went to wave to the driver of the other car, but there wasn't anyone in the drivers seat. He looked again and the car was gone entirely and the only tire tracks on the road led to his work van. There was no car. He's forgotten the details of the story over the years, it's been almost 30 years exactly since it happened, but he told me he was so nervous that night driving home because they were first time parents, I was only a few weeks old, it was 1994, so he had no way to tell my mom he wasn't sure where he was, and he wasn't sure he was going to make it home, and then all of a sudden someone was in front of him and he felt a wave of relief wash over him like he knew he would get back home safely.

I think that's awesome. Guardian angels come in all forms! And pulling over would be a good idea. I have also been guilty of this and you just want to be home and warm and safe.

Wow! The exact same thing happened to me. I had my baby boy in the car. My brother and I were driving home to another town from my grandmas at night in blinding fog couldn’t see the line in the road. I didn’t have any more formula for my son so we had to go home. A car passed me and I followed it to my street and all of a sudden I realized it wasn’t in front of us anymore.

@@macheadg5er pull over? On the side of the road in a snowstorm? In the dark? Dangerous to be a sitting duck, especially if you run the risk of running out of gas and freezing to death.

You're still my favorite TH-camr by far almost 3 years after I discovered you on here. You help me in more ways than you could ever imagine. I'm listening to this story right now. My wife loves your stories now too. It's become a routine of ours to lay down together every week and watch your new videos. As always, your outstanding talent is admired and appreciated. Thank you for being you.

It’s disturbing that the police can do all that to someone to try and force them to “confess” makes you realize how often this happens and how many innocent people are incarcerated.

My cousin had an experience like this. She rolled her car into a lake and was sinking to the bottom. A woman, who she said was our dead cousin, showed up in the passenger seat and told her how to survive. The first time I heard her tell it I believed it, there was no doubt in her at all that it had happened.

The last story was definitely an angel, sent by God to save this man. Many similar stories around the world through the years are told by people who are alive because of these angels. These angels appear to someone because God sent them and He has a purpose for these people.

THE 3RD MAN AFFECT IS VERY REAL. When I was 13 years old I was lost in the wilderness of Idaho. It took me 3 days to find a dirt road. I did walk out on my own. On the 3rd day a presence arrived and walked me out. Then disappeared as soon as I set foot on the road.

Me and my 3 friends were lost in a forest and wandering aimlessly under 6 foot grass not seeing a thing and at one point even saw a deer and our mind immediately thought of leopards being around as well, nearly fell off a cliff, after around 4 hours miraculously found a woodcutter who showed us a path which led us out into the town again

My husband and I were stationed at mountain home Air Force Base in Idaho. We've been up to Coeur d'Alene and Kellogg and we used to camp around featherville in the Stanley area. When on those Old logging roads miles from anyone and anywhere and in the wilderness is no joke!! I always wanted to visit the Frank Church River of No return wilderness area but I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2001 while we live there and I wasn't physically capable of doing it.

Mr Ballen, Since you brought up the last man out of tower 2 on sept 11, I wonder if a video showing the dark story of how we veterans were lied to about nearly every aspect of 9/11 for nearly the last 23 years.
With your skill in presentation and the receptive audience you have here, I’m sure it would be very well received.
Either way, cheers to you, you’re killing it!
