And if the farmers could build something like a grounding isle, e.g. a corridor with conductive material to ground the electricity(maybe even harnessing it to power the farm and tools), shearing would be basically like shearing a normal sheep. And with that much wool produced it could also be used as tinder or something
I kinda thought that Mareep and it’s evolutions were based on how the English took over Australia and Sheep took over the grazing grounds of Kangaroos, albeit in reverse as it’s a Sheep that turns into a Kangaroo.

I managed to knock his accuracy though, and my Ampharos managed to land a charged Charge Beam, which somehow one-shotted the thing. As a result, I bought an Ampharos plush, and now it lives on my mantle next to the Jirachi.

I got a mareep right before Faulkner in HeartGold and named it Ampy. I didn't even know what it'd evolve into and how fitting it's name would be. She ended up at level 98 and was my absolute favorite Pokemon to the point that as soon as I started my playthrough of violet I caught a mareep and named it Ampy.
I theorized that the reason the mareep line loses its fur is that since more of its skin gets better at insulating and it stores more electricity, it must get hotter, therefore it doesn’t need such thick wool anymore and loses it through evolution, thought it might make sense
I have met a theory that mareep line are actually birds/dinos. And there is a possible way to make fiber out of feathers. This also explains the skin colour perfectly.
It would be cool to have an electric balloon Pokémon to hang around mareep or clothes made with its wool. There could also be a similar relationship similar to zinogre and thunderbugs if you try hard enough.
The wool doesn’t just “break off and fall out.” It falls out because of electrolysis. The follicles are getting fried by electricity. It’s a form of permanent medical hair removal used by humans. They probe a needle-thin electrode into the follicle and kill it by zapping it, so it can’t grow back. This is what the wool is doing over time to Flaafy and Ampharos. The overcharged wool is backfiring on its own follicles and killing off the hair cells.

I love your video's because you always try to be as scientifically correct as possible. You really do an amazing job most of the time. I do think however that you got the concepts of electrons and charge mixed up. You see, electrons are always negatively charged. So when you say "It stores a load of positive electrons" at 12:40 it is kinda impossible. Those would be positrons, but positive electrons don't exist. Also, at around 7:50 you talk about how the stretching made it looser and gave it more surface area, which gave more space for electrons. However, if there were more electrons, it would be negatively charged, instead of positively. That's also not how electron shells work btw, so I don't think surface area has anything to do with it. I also don't know what the right explanation would be though. Those were the only mistakes I could find and they are really easy to make. I study molecular chemistry and even I get charges mixed up sometimes. Keep up the good work lockstin, I really love your content!

Textiles teacher here. Sheep Wool is weird and gamefreak may actually be on to something: Wool has 3 grades (that come from different area of the sheep) fine (very short brittle fibers that are thin and very dense - usually from the neck area), crossbred and coarse (these come from the back legs etc are much thicker, longer and stronger). We mostly use fine wools for clothing (crossbred may be used for heavy coats but coarse is for like carpets). Because crossbred and coarse wool is thicker it holds more water and water diffuses static charges, this these wools are much more resistant to static electricity. However the high quality fine wools do not contain as much water, dry out faster and much more susceptible to a static charge (this is why most wool clothing is destroyed if you throw it in the dryer, the dehydration allows for the build up of static). All this to say probably by sheer chance gamefreaks weird logic makes sense. And to further it the neck area (where flaffy has fur) is the area we get the finest wool!

Considering both evolve once at level 15 and again at level 30, I could see Mareep and Shinx working as version exclusive counterparts.

Can you do a theory video of why trainers often have different Pokémon? Obviously not all trainers go to the Pokémon professor in that region because then they’d all have a grass/fire/water starter on their team. I think a fun theory video would be if other trainers/gym leaders/E4 members/ champions sponsored individual trainers and gave them their first ones based on merit. Like bugsy giving Caterpies to those who don’t show a lot of promise or youngster Joey being giving his ratatta. All the why to a theory of who is the mentor who sponsored each champion of the region
