When female emcees were in the forefront with a positive message....can we say the same for this era??? Is the radio safe and healthy for young girls to listen to anymore???
It isn't healthy for young boys too. Eminen raps about raping his own mother, hitting and raping women etc. Male rappers rap about pussy, and other unimportant things. So yeah I think today's hip-hop even though it may sound nice sometimes, it isn't that healthy for both young girls and boys.

Lauryn was that woke chick! Damn! Every lyric she spit was truth goodness! And I love her Tammi Terrell look from the 1960's she's truly a beauty, natural and made up.
Candace Michelle all ISRAELITE sisters are beautful in the natural, its just that most do not believe in themselves enough to go natural, and think that weaves and wearing underwear out in the streets is what makes them beautiful.
One of the best songs of all time, both musically and lyrically! "Don't be a hard rock when you really are a gem. Baby girl, respect is just a minimum" and "The punk domestic violence men, money taking, heart breaking men, and you wonder why women hate men. How you gonna win when you ain't right within?" Love it because it's all said from a place of wanting both women and men to get right and respect themselves and each other

She is so impowering/inspiring!
Alisha Robertson she is overrated, her bars are mediocre at best, her rhyme is basic, her lyrics doesn’t even carry a message, and have you checked out her album, it received bad reviews.

I think people interpret differently but a hard rock is tough, rough, perhaps even ugly (both inside and out) due to the environment it is subjected to. But a gem is often concealed beneath, and can be so much more. A diamond, for example: beautiful, brilliant, precious, and the hardest naturally occurring substance on earth. Be tough AND precious, recognize and own your incredible (self) worth! That's how I take it :)

You should 100% introduce ur future baby to ms lauryn hill !! She is a wonder . And u should also ALWAYS unapologetically be u, and ALWAYS unapologetically be proud of ur melanin and who u are . 🤍

This was on radio everyday for weeks and my mother brought the album the same day it came out. r.i.p mommy😍😘😢 I'm here cause of you.

Big ups to mom... rip

yasmine lewis how old are u🤔
When female emcees were in the forefront with a positive message....can we say the same for this era??? Is the radio safe and healthy for young girls to listen to anymore???
I don't think the mainstream radio is good for anyone.
No we can't say the same about this era! Radio is horrible! (Even Sirius/XM sometimes and I PAY for that!)
The whole music industry is Dangerous!!!! It was just better hidden from us back then.
It isn't healthy for young boys too. Eminen raps about raping his own mother, hitting and raping women etc. Male rappers rap about pussy, and other unimportant things. So yeah I think today's hip-hop even though it may sound nice sometimes, it isn't that healthy for both young girls and boys.
who cares ????
JULY 2024 ..... YEAH WE STILL HERE 💯💯

Young Rio charts don't define how good music is

faiisca 94 excellent comment
faiisca 94 i agree
faiisca 94 I wish female rappers today are like laruan hill and doo wop real passion for music
See this is real beauty..they didnt have to get half naked to get views....they promoted independence, inner beauty, black beauty and self confidence..but the media doesnt like to see us in power so what did they do? Replace us with half naked narcissistic Sasha fierces', man-stealing dominatrix Nicki minajs...with lighter bleached skin and blonde hair....smh

I love lauryn but mary is the queen of r&b!!! She's the queen
Also sold over 20 million album worlďwide and it's 10x platinum
Celestial beauty, my good God, this woman couldn't be more perfect.
Candace Michelle Say it again. Woke for sure.
She was pregnant at the time
Woke to broke.
Hi Candace, how are you doing today
I now understand why old people would say they don't make music like that anymore...I'm now the old person
Me too, 73 and still lovin the music
Same, just take a look at the music now compared to even 10 years ago
I'm pretty young I think 64
@@mariannemark3292 i think so to!

One of the best songs of all time, both musically and lyrically! "Don't be a hard rock when you really are a gem. Baby girl, respect is just a minimum" and "The punk domestic violence men, money taking, heart breaking men, and you wonder why women hate men. How you gonna win when you ain't right within?" Love it because it's all said from a place of wanting both women and men to get right and respect themselves and each other
and before her Lisa Left Eye Lopes kamikazed a slew o right winged leftover racist
Soo true ❤️
Jesus Christ wants a personal relationship with you through the Holy Spirit, not religion and blind faith. You see, we all have sinned, and have broken God’s law (The Ten Commandments). Wrong doing deserves justice and must be punished (just like how a criminal has to pay for the crime they have committed) but God saved us from the eternal punishment of our sins by sending His Son Jesus Christ, fullness of God in flesh, a perfect, sinless sacrifice to pay the penalty for our sins by dying on the cross and resurrecting, so that we may have everlasting life. It is all finished and now for you to accept the free gift of grace, you must repent of your sins and put your faith in Jesus Christ and Bible says that His Blood will cover all of your sins, you will be forgiven, saved from eternal punishment, and be given everlasting life. By faith you will receive the Holy Spirit, become born again, know Jesus personally and He will transform your heart and clean you from the inside out. Turn away from sin, read the Bible, pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you and change you, obey the Word. Much love and God bless you!
Well said. RESPECT

Hello
How’re you doing today?
Am good and you?
I repeated that to myself at least 5x as soon as she said it. Years of me loving this song & I still pull lines out of it that I could use in life.
Back when music was real music
I LOVE this woman!! It is so pathetic/saddening to see her going through all this court BS! It was about her song #IGetOut ..at least that contributed to "THEM" trying to ruin her! :-( She spoke way back in 1999 (I believe) to a group of hs/ or college students. Have you seen it? She is so impowering/inspiring!
Na I missed it. Would've love see it tho
Rob InfraRed I will try to find it and I will post it for you.
***** Same difference. lol Thanks tho. :-)
"Back when music was real music" wtf does that even mean...
I want a girl like her 🥺
This whole Album was Fiyah! Lauryn was untouchable in her day and really today. I've not heard a female rapper at her level
Gladys Dark uhmmm... Cardi B. 1st solo female rapper since lauryn to top the billboard chart. Also cardi broke Beyonce records
Alisha Robertson she is overrated, her bars are mediocre at best, her rhyme is basic, her lyrics doesn’t even carry a message, and have you checked out her album, it received bad reviews.
I agree and I love her on sister act 2: back in the habit
Gladys Dark her and cardi b
you should check out Noname and Rapsody

Jesus wasn't white for one.☝. for two. he died for our sins. we are undergrace. he said abolished the law so ALL foods are good. 3rd off do your research and actually read the Bible before you judge Christains or anyone for that matter.

She is absolutely beautiful
Crazy she was only 22 when she recorded this, and even younger in Fugees
Until tupac destroyed them
What happened to her. Why did she go crazy and fall off?
She's like a weed hermit now right?

InnerRise she didn’t go “crazy”, she had ALOT of personal shit going on and needed to take a step back. Saying she went crazy is dismissive of the issues she was trying to deal with.
Damn her flow is actually pretty sweet.

Lauryn Hill is so dang fine. She has to be one of the best looking women in the entertainment industry.

I thank yall for riding with her when the music industry tried to destroy her. Yall need to be applauded
Lauryn Hill was speaking to & for the future generations
Honestly
Respect for not selling out to Satan! Much love!
takitezy7 she did sell out like many other celebrities, sony gave lauryn hills a second chance to have a comeback with her music career,it was three million record deal but she refused because the elites wiil control her and had to do santanic rituals and many other sick things like having sex with the same sex, beastislity etc .if she wants to become big, thats how the music industry works.
You sell your soul to the devel for fame and fortune ,you have to denounce jesus as your savior and salvation and died for man kind from sin.lauryn hill sings song about how the industry oppressed her from fully expressing herself musicaly and how she wants to break out the industry which is such evil, shes been fighting with the elites for years csuss she want follow them and their evil agenda to the masses so she can deceive people through people copying her ,people not studying the scriptures of god and more.the person save her and take her out of this sick and twisted music industry is Jesus Christ.they say becareful what you dream of because it will turn into your worst nightmare.I pray for those who bonded themselves to the devil so they can find salvation snd peace

its crazy i have heard this song several times but the lyrics hit me heavier now! wow "Dont be a hard rock when you really are gem"
lovelychi I was just thinking the same thing she snapped in that first verse!!
Exactly
explain it a little, i have an idea but dont know
I think people interpret differently but a hard rock is tough, rough, perhaps even ugly (both inside and out) due to the environment it is subjected to. But a gem is often concealed beneath, and can be so much more. A diamond, for example: beautiful, brilliant, precious, and the hardest naturally occurring substance on earth. Be tough AND precious, recognize and own your incredible (self) worth! That's how I take it :)
