- A 9 month camper van conversion shortened down to a 20 minute timelapse. The van is fully off-grid and self contained and includes a shower and toilet. We converted this van with no prior van building experience and completed the build in our spare time and holidays while working full time. A great build from scratch. I want to get a van that I can put my motorbike in as well as live in
Thank you! Ooh that would be cool! Bike would take up a lot if headroom though - have seen a few vans getting around with motorbikes on the back though.
I found a man who builds custom vans for stealth camping. He makes room for a motorcycle to fit nicely in the space while in the van or traveling. His specialty is building vans that are truly stealth camping/ living perfectly. Check him out if you want to fit your motorcycle or scooter in without compromise.

I love watching people build their own homes in every variety they come in. This build was thoroughly enjoyable to watch, but for some reason, seeing you grout the green tile was somehow the most satisfying five seconds of the whole video 😂. Nice job all around.

This is how van build should be ,do the work , time lapse the full build and get on with enjoying the van life. I have watched this video a dozen times in my van playlist. FYI only builds with time lapse make my playlist.

Finally another aussie dually . Awesome video. I wish id documented my build more, however my build is still going. I think this is my 3rd year lol. I look forward to following your advantures .
Cheers mate! There’s not all that many Aussie builds on TH-cam is there. I’m glad we documented ours, but it definitely added a lot more time and effort to the build, especially having to remember to get the camera out every step of the way. We only managed to get ours done on such a short period as we set a hard date to travel, put more pressure ourselves than was probably needed 😅 hope you get yours finished soon and hopefully see you on the road somewhere!

Thank you! The cabinets were from Ikea, and the bit around the fridge we made with 12mm ply

Keep dreaming! You can do it a lot simpler than this build and still have it very practical
Cool, it would be possible to install an additional barrel for water on the roof
Thanks! We actually have 3 freshwater tanks in total (2 under and 1 inside) giving us nearly 200L of water in total. This usually lasts us 4-5 days. Would be nice to be able to catch some rainwater from the roof though!
What was your general system for elecricity and how did tou know how thet would work
We have 400ah of batteries, 600w of solar, a dcdc charger and an inverter. I had a rough understanding of what was needed but then did plenty of research on forums and TH-cam.

I am thinking bout gutting my current full Aluminium 1974 Viscount 16ft x 8ft Caravan, which I currently live in at the moment, but, am thinking when get place of my own, is completely gut the interior put a brand new roof on the outside, and am thinking about with the 2 large air vents, is include solar panels on them, so can literally have the vents open and the sun is also charging the batteries, but am thinking should I continue with the rebuild as the original setup, but more modern or completely something different, for the age and rebuild it different inside,...please let me know your comments on what I should do with it, it's been a great little van...purchased in 2004.
That’s a tough one! Should have good bones being all aluminium. Depends what you want out of it, how much you want to spend, and how much work you want to put in. A minor renovation and new solar system would go a long way - solar stuff and batteries have come such a long way in the last decade alone. A full strip and rebuild would be a huge project and the biggest change is probably aesthetics. Whatever you choose all I can say is it will probably be way more work than you anticipate (based on our experience building the van out 😅)

Odd question but how tall are you guys? I’m doing a van build very soon and I’m 6ft so just curious of your height and how much room you have.
I’m also around 6ft and have a couple of inches clear of the ceiling. Glad we went the high roof version!

Isn't there a 3,5 t-limit in Australia for this kind of van?
Our light vehicle class goes up to 4.5t which this van is rated for. The finished build weighed in at 3.6t so well under the vehicles GVM
@@brookandjulius ... So you're lucky to get some extra "headroom" for luggage ... (in EU these van class is limited to 3.5t)

Why did lower the fuel tank?
We put in a diesel heater and connected the fuel line for that to one of the auxiliary ports on the tank. Just had to drop it for access
Would have been nice if you skipped the music and explain what you was doing for people who hasn't built a car like this before and what kind of car you recommend buying
This video was just for a bit of fun and most people watching probably aren’t planning to do a van build. If you are interested in the detail though, we actually documented the entire build across more than 30 videos and went through every decision from choosing the van, planning the layout, electrical system as well as talking about the different materials we used - all the videos are in our Van Build playlist

Haha 😅 I’m not sure I’d be up for that, this was a massive project that took up all our spare time. There are plenty of small independent van builders out there though who do client work - if you are looking to get a build done you could reach out to them. Some friends of ours had a similar level build done to ours and I think it took around 400 hours of labour plus materials

What's with the sound dampeners ? Are you building a p*do van? I've watched many van to camper projects, but never seen a sound dampener being installed... is it to keep outside sounds outside, or inside sounds inside?
It’s sound deadening not sound proofing. Basically it just stops the tinny noise of the panels on the van and makes it much nicer when driving - does nothing when the van isn’t being driven. Sprinters have some from factory but we added extra to panels that didn’t have any

Unfortunately there’s not a huge selection of royalty free music for small channels. We have since gotten a license for music in newer videos. Hope you still enjoyed the build

Van life / caravan life is definitely not for you then 😂💩 most van builds don’t even have a bathroom and the toilet just pulls out into the hallway…
