lb7 Is the best imo everyone says injectors were a problem but when properly maintained and not thrashed on they hold up I got one with almost 500k miles with no problems except it just needs injectors its only had one set of injectors and a waterpump, they are great trucks!

My LB7 is poorly maintained and isn’t stock, pushing a lot of power and is beaten daily. Temperatures are way higher than intended without it being studded. And it still runs great. 🤷🏼‍♀️ can’t kill it

Step dad has one bought it with 26k miles it now has 280k and it has been a work truck the whole time. Hes handicap so I've drove most the miles. Never been too tough on it unless I had to be. We're in the scrapping business and pull heavy loads regularly or hauling equipment. Bout 160k of those miles were pulling a trailer would be a good estimate. It's been very reliable and can pull just about anything you can fit on a 25ft flatdeck trailer or dump trailer with relative ease. I wont disclose the heaviest load we've pulled with it because of legality issues but it was impressive to say the least. Lol. The truck has paid for itself many times.

if you have the stock injectors and your truck starts smoking you probably need to replace the injectors cuz they will be leaking fuel into the oil and that will ruin the oil pressure sensor. i took my truck to the dealer since we just moved to nevada and they told me the engine was shot and i needed a new one for 23,000 bucks i told them that would be a new truck and i drove away and found a diesel shop and it only cost me 11,000 for the injectors 3,006 and the injector lines all had to be replaced the braking system was leaking and the power steering was leaking. after 3 oil changes in 3 weeks i now have a strong running truck. go with the bosch injectors they do not have the problems of the stock ones i am just short of 200,000 miles keep an eye on your oil and black exhaust smoke. good luck

Had my lb7 for 6 years. At 190k now. Got Bosch remans at 115k and water pump done around then too. Other than drivetrain stuff, thermostats and rotting coolant o rings and lines. Trucks never left me hanging, except the time my idler pully went and belt wiped fan blade out. Stuck a fass on it and run fuel additive every tank. Eclb on 33s getting 23mpgs with crazy low egts compared to other dmaxs. At 22pds boost up a 7 mile 9% grade egt runs steady 1250 with 8k trailer behind it. 15mpgs with that enclosed car hauler on flat ground. Been running syn motor oil in transfer case since I got it. Has all bolt ons and efi live. Stock trans I just take it easy in o/d. More than enough power for me. I can’t see myself ever selling it. It’s been that good of truck. I’ve had that truck many states away from home on vacation with trailer many times. 6 speed would be nice, but only time I ever felt the need for it was in mountains with a trailer at 60mph. I usually just speed up some to keep egts at bay. First mod for lb7s should be lift pump. Entire fuel system, cp3, injectors will all benefit from it in long run. Turbo horn definitely helped light the turbo faster from stop. Recommend that too. Lb7s very reliable after the quirks get addressed. But any duramax has its quirks.

Sounds like a slick truck! The only thing to really watch out for would be seals and rubber hoses as they tend to degrade over time, especially if it sits. And of course look for white smoke - indication it may need injectors. You can check for blow by by setting the oil fill cap upside down on the oil fill hole. If it doesn’t move, you’re good. If it jumps off, there’s an issue with blow by, might need head gaskets.

Bought a new 2003 duramax LB7. At 117,000 miles had to replace injectors. Dealer says out of warranty and never heard of injectors going bad! Total cost right at $5,000. Ouch. But the dealer said I’d never have to worry about injectors ever again. At 177,000 miles injectors are bad again? Can’t be! Chevy dealer now out of business. Found a new Chevy dealer. Good news, price hasn’t gone up. Another $5,000. OMG. Also have replaced the canister/housing around the fuel filter twice. Looses prime unless you always park nose downhill. Always been a Chevy fan but I just can’t stand anymore! Side note: each time only 2 or 3 injectors were bad, but because of design, you have little choice but to replace them all.

agree with dr. fishing, other than dry rotted fuel lines, the filter housing is one of the worst pieces in the fuel system. replaced mine with a new one from "dmax store" a few years ago and by the next winter the truck wouldnt start after 12 hours from loss of fuel system prime. due to these trucks not having a lift pump, the cp3 sucks fuel through 20ish feet of hose depending on the model, any little leak or crack in hoses or just the vacuum alone introduces air into the fuel. install a lift pump and bypass the stock filter all together. havent had an issue with mine since.

Not well one duramax motors. Had powerstrokes 7.3 mainly. But I bought an 02 gmc lb7, ran good when I bought it needed a water pump, I replaced the pump for 385 I wanna say. I did hydro boost myself and some other stuff aswell. But recently it will not start. I did new fuel pump and new primer pump and new fuel filters, hell new batteries and a new starter. She cranks just fine just will not start. I love my truck it’s had a lot done to it. It was all banks performance parts. I have after market head studs and everything else you could think. I bought the truck with a steal at 6k cash money. And it has definitely had over 20k worth of money put into the motor alone. Just was wondering if anyone knew anything about why the hell my coolant reservoir is holding a ton of pressure after I leave it plugged up for a few days. I left town for about a 3 days and just didn’t realize I left it plugged into for the block heater the day I got back went to start it, and remembered I needed washer fluid so when I did the washer fluid noticed I was a tad low on coolant went to add some. And when I barley loosened the cap the fucking thing launched at me like a bat out of hell. Coolant went everywhere

IT'S A SHIT DESIGN) and horrible fuel efficiency when under a load. All of these things can be fixed with aftermarket products, but GM/Isuzu should have made a better engine to begin with.

change your fuel filter and while the filter is off check the fuel head and change all the o rings about 10.00 for the kit and they will give you a metal bleed screw instead of the stock plastic one also check the o ring for the fuel filter see if it needs to be replaced it might leak if put on too tight try priming the fuel pump on top of the filter head it may take as many as 50 pumps to pressurize the system. When pressurized you should be able to start the truck and can drive the truck if you let it sit over night you will need to pump it back up to start, boy what a hassle. if the o ring kit does not work and you are still losing pressure try replacing the fuel head get a stock one i got mine from amazon and the fuel tubes were not the same as the stock one and i had to modify the fuel line and make it longer now my fuel problem is solved. i have an 04 lb7

bought my 2001 lb7 in 2012 with 150,000 miles, it ran fine not towing, but pulling up a hill and towing had a code (dont remember exact code) but was for "massive fuel leak" had it checked out at a dealer and was either cp3 or injectors. well i researched injectors, new bosch ones were about $350 each, replacing 8 gets a bit expensive and add on another $600 or so for new fuel hardlines. well i found "pensicola diesel" (believe thats how its spelled, anyway dont believe "all" the bad reviews i spent about $1500 for 8 complete rebuilt injectors, 8 glow plugs and it came with valve cover gaskets. i didnt get new fuel lines either, just cleaned them out really well. now its almost 2020 and ive put on 25,000 miles (mainly towing, its not a daily driver) and still running well, however at the time i still had my fuel leak issue, it was the cp3 going out. if you are really interested in one of these duramax's the best thing to do is invest in a lift pump. i put in a FASS 150gph for about $600, best upgrade ever for ANY dmax, just dont use their blue fuel line, had to replace it under a year from dryrot and cracking. to my knowledge the duramaxes still dont use a lift pump and there lies the root cause of the issues. cp3 working to hard sucking and pressurizing fuel, which in turn leads to low fuel pressures at the injectors causing early failures. take care of that and you got a solid motor

Justin E injector haze is white smoke from the exhaust from unburnt fuel that can be caused by injectors sticking open. A lift pump just supplies fuel to the high pressure fuel pump and pumps like airdog or fass add filtration

mopar1969kr the cp3 on a duramax doesn’t need a lift pump. It’s designed to use vacuum. The vacuum system isn’t why LB7 injectors fail, oem injectors cracked and leaked fuel into the crankcase and use a vco style nozzle that wears out over time.
