The 6 speed is only for someone that really uses it for long drive but doesn’t pull a trailer because you really won’t use 6th and yeah the Cali trucks have egr and the heads do not flow as well as federal trucks
I have a 2001 Chevy Excab 2500HD LB7 Duramax 4x4 with only 92,000 miles been garage kept no rust , paint in very good condition shines like new. , like new interior. Just really enjoy the early dmaxs, I own a crew cab 02 shortbox and have aftermarket bosch sac nozzle injectors and gaskets with pumps. You fix the instant red flags on these old girls and these trucks will always remain loyal to the soil and never fail you👌🏾
2004 lb7 owner, when replacing injectors if you haven’t already upgrade your banjo bolts on the return lines, the stock ones are not deep enough to get an Allen wrench in without stripping them out so therefore you can’t get them torqued to the right spec and that will also cause fuel to leak into your crank case as well, the injectors were replaced and still got fuel leaking in the crank case and a buddy told me about the banjo bolt issue and that fixed the issue and like someone else said, a lift pump is a must weather you are at stock hp or wanting to create more hp, that will also help the longevity of your cp3 and injectors other than that I absolutely love the truck

I managed to convince them to install new stock Bosh matched injectors an air dog fuel preparator and and an NP271 heavy duty transfer case with custom made drive shafts. The next year I installed Eaton eLockers Front (electric) and rear differential lockers. A PPE tuner set at 90 hp and PPE oil spinner filter round out my 02 Extended Cab GMC Duramax with Allison AT. Will keep repairing over purchasing a replacement due to new vehicle cost. Got lucky and have a rust free unit but located in central Missouri. You can trust the review by thoroughbred diesel. @@thoroughbreddiesel Not as straight forward as you make it sound. This was a nightmare. That front section at the engine was horrible. Dropped tank and replaced the $300 flex lines from the tank to hard lines and fuel cooler. Snap nut on tank broke. Bought new and ripped old clip off frame. Easy in terms of understandability but doing it is awful with rust and the Houdini front section. Had to take off bracket of new lines and the rubber steering shaft diaphragm to get it up in the engine. Also took off oil filter.
The 5.9L Cummins is so much easier to work on and cheaper since it's only 6 cylinders. Also the Dana axles are tough, just watch out for the auto transmissions of course

Great review. When going from dual mass flywheel to standard flywheel.. How do you deal with gear rollover noise? In gear. And Taking off. Anytime below 1,000 rpm i get rollover noise. Thats the only time. Otherwise i DO like the traditional flywheel better.
I switched to Penzoil synchromesh on mine and it took a lot of it away. With a SMF flywheel you will get more sound but in my personal opinion, its not awful and its much better than dealing with the DMF.
@@thoroughbreddiesel thanks. Its got Amzoil atf in it now. I heard Redline ATF is quieter running also. Its just below 1000 rpms. With a stock tune. Im considering putting in an atf additive. Through the shifter boot. The shifter top. Easy enough to test it. There used to be a small 4oz bottle of 100% synchromesh general motors sold. Reckon i could just dump that in the top through the shifter hole?

Unfortunately my 2003 LB7 is plagued with nickel and dime issues as well. as major ticket issues. Substandard and poor quality interior plastics and trim are constantly snagging and breaking. NSBU failure is common. Loss of prime from numerous poorly designed components such as the filter housing and fuel supply and return lines. The list goes on. A pretty disappointing and frustrating over- hyped quasi work truck.
Need help! 03 LB7, just put new injectors in, new lift pump, injector lines, fuel filter, new ppe fuel rail valve, put it all back together and now at about mid range throttle fuel pressure drops, and dumps a ton of fuel in and pours blue smoke. Idle is great when you get on it it runs great. But just at mid range. Everything on the fuel side comes back great when we run diagnostic well within recommended specs. What are we missing?
I have been thinking of making a offer on one thats been sitting, 2002 1 ton dually, 170k km, been sitting for 3 maybe 4 years, needs 4 new tires, and the frame is solid but needs cleaned up, and just a little bit of work and tlc, otherwise seems in very good shape, has had injectors already done too, any suggestions? I don’t really have a purpose for one of these but it would be a dream truck i live in the salt belt i wouldnt plan to drive it in the salt, and just overall preserve and enjoy it,
I think you covered a lot of the things that you look for there. If the price is right, and you know what to look for with these trucks, you will be just fine! Put fresh fuel in it before you try to start it.
I wish I can buy a Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with duramax. But I found a 57k miles on Duramax pick a truck from Facebook market. My 18 birthday give… but I know is expensive to buy.
Looking at buying an 04, currently has a white smoke issue. So I should let it warm up, then come back a few hours later and check the radiator hose to check for pressure? The truck is in really good condition overall condition.
White smoke at idle is usually going to be an injector condition, which is common in Lb7 trucks. Unrelated but yes, drive truck and get to operating temp and check upper radiator hose after it has been shut off for an hour or so. If you have pressure on radiator hose after that time, beware of head gasket or injector cup.
I just bought the 04 Chevy 2500hd duramax yesterday. So 20 min after buying the push button 4x4 won’t engage then the starter spins out. Oh my anyway my question is how hard is it to put the 4 on the floor? Because I can’t stand the thought of buying actuator motors every couple of years.
Hey I just bought one of these its a 2004 and I was just wondering when I've been driving amd then slow down and get down to idle like 5 mph ish or at a red light it starts to smoke a little bit of whiteish blue smoke. Anyone know what it would be?
Start with checking our balance rates, +/- 4 is the spec. If all in balance, then you probably are going to have to use a block off tool to find the injector culprit.
Just had my passenger side injector cups resealed. Cooling system was overpressuring... Already did heads with ARPs so I was extremely worried. Anyway, cups were resealed, new gaskets kit with all the hardware... Good as new. Love my 02 GMC SLT CCLB. I have been watching your videos for about a year now...Good job..I see that you have a 2001 LB7. Have you ever had the P0093 code pop up while driving/towing under load? Thanks.
Thank you! P0093 could come from a couple of different areas possibly developing on your truck, high side fuel system related. I suggest driving with some sort of ability to monitor actual vs commanded fuel rail pressure while towing just to see how low it gets. Switching over to a external lift pump, Airdog, FASS, etc. would be a good upgrade to start with. After that, suspect injectors, weak cp3 or cascade valve.
Replace with stock injectors and associated parts, lines, cups and seals all from GM!! Just had to do mine, they suck to change. Bought genuine to avoid redoing the job

I love my lb7 I got mine with bad headgaskets too one issue you missed on the zf6 I've seen it on 4500 and up more then 1ton and under but breaking the back bellhousing on the engine was a problem too high of engine rpm does it other then that you are spot on
My truck is a 2004 Silverado 2500 gas but I live in WI and these year trucks have severe rust issues unless religiously washed my truck the front fenders are rusted bad bed sides rusted bad cab corners and rockers are gone and I’ve seen in many cases frames rot out too. The trucks have a beautiful body but gm did a poor job with rust proofing
Asked the right questions got a good price. I am now the proud owner of an 04 silverado 2500hd. 146k on the clock of grandpas old truck. Thanks for the info it helped alot.
Awesome! You're welcome!
Have 6.0 chevy I Just bought a 2003 duramax 116k mileslooking forward to pull my 30 foot RV. 😬👍
How has it done? Looking at one for that same purpose….
Do you have any videos on changing fuel lines? I have the 2006 Duramax.
We don’t but pretty straightforward on those. Find the lines, remove, and replace.
@@thoroughbreddiesel
What would you suggest, dropping the tank or lifting the bed? I have rust of course. Rust belt
@@thoroughbreddiesel
Not as straight forward as you make it sound.
Love to see one of these on the LBZ. Trying to decide between an LBZ Silverado 3500 or a 3rd gen Dodge 3500 with the 5.9l.
The 5.9L Cummins is so much easier to work on and cheaper since it's only 6 cylinders. Also the Dana axles are tough, just watch out for the auto transmissions of course
Hopefully u went with the duramax. Dodges are junk simple as that.
Would love to see a video on the obs powerstroke
these are my dream truck to i just found one with low km i love them
Thanks for all the great tips currently I'm in an Audi 3.0 TDI that's a v6 turbo diesel and we're pulling a 25-ft 3500 lb camper trailer no problems like a dream max towing capacity on my Audi is 7, 700lbs factory towing package and airbags so it's a great riding tow vehicle but I just bought a 36 ft 9,000 lb tow behind 2021 camper and the Audi's not going to pull that so I'm looking at getting one of these trucks and this video was very helpful there's an 04 near me with 100,000 miles on it now I have a few things to know to go and look for to see if it's any good thank you for that will continue to look at the rest of your channel see what else you have
2:08 that old truck in the background "I remember when ppl use to talk about me that way"
lol
I'd like to see a 07-13 duramax. I have one. I love it but I'd like to to know more about the truck and what I can do to take care of it. And things i should watch for.
Also I only have wiring to one fog light which seems weird haha not sure where I can tie the other one into so I can have both fog lights. Any answers would be amazing thanks
I don’t have a answer on the fogs, I would think you could just harness over to the other one and be working.
My dirty-max is going into the shop soon, looking like a TCM is either going out or the wire harness, had a loss of power in the parking lot with a flashing D hoping it's an easy fix under 2000.mine is the 02 2500HD, Silverado, crew cab LT.
You should do the LML next. Very interested in what the top upgrades / maintenance areas are for my 2015 Chevy Duramax
Hard to find a good example of problem areas with the LML being "newish". 🤔 We are still searching. In the works though.
I know of one locally that has a bad transfer case. Thinking about buying it. Thanks for the video!
Glad I could help!
This is a dumb question but are all the duramaxs for this year manuals?
Duramax only had manual shift through the 2007, ended with the LBZ’s.
Ahhh ok thanks
Good grief......seems a feller has to rebuild the damn thing when ya buy one. I'm hoping the one I look at sat. has some of these addressed. Also looking at an lly, not sure which one I should get.
If the rockers are rusty no doubt the leaf springs and chassis is a bit rusty too.
Thanks for the LB7 content!!! 😀🤘
Could you do a buying video on the lmm and lml please
Thinking of buying one tomorrow, very helpful video
Glad we could help.
If on budget should I get a gas 2500HD or a diesel 2500HD?
Diesel
I wish I can buy a Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with duramax.
But I found a 57k miles on Duramax pick a truck from Facebook market.
My 18 birthday give… but I know is expensive to buy.
12:34 My 02 duramax had the injectors replaced before I bought it. I have noticed that sometimes the radiator hose is flat. What is this indicating?
I’m learning about dodge and Chevy trucks I like are Silverado ram , Colorado GMC makes some good ones too What do you know about lifted trucks
Do a buyer's guide on a 2011 6.7 cummins
Noted. Maybe in the future!
500k engine ..50k truck
Looking at buying an 04, currently has a white smoke issue. So I should let it warm up, then come back a few hours later and check the radiator hose to check for pressure? The truck is in really good condition overall condition.
White smoke at idle is usually going to be an injector condition, which is common in Lb7 trucks. Unrelated but yes, drive truck and get to operating temp and check upper radiator hose after it has been shut off for an hour or so. If you have pressure on radiator hose after that time, beware of head gasket or injector cup.
Do your injectors, cup, lines and all, add a lift pump, use additive, and make your hp according to what your pulling and go 100 mi. w/O DEF! .
My lb7 has bad injectors what can I do to make sure I don’t have this problem anymore
I have an 2002 GMC Duramax LB7 with 101k miles. Is my truck still covered under the 200k mile warranty for the Injectors?
I believe it will be out on the age of the truck. Check with your local dealer though.
Talk about the LBZ
Patience!
How much is a head gasket job cost on a 2001. 6.6l duramax.
I'm looking at 01 2500 gmc truck , has the allison trans...guy wants 7gs....isit worth that...?? 177ooo miles
01-02’s are bad for head gaskets and injector issues. Take this into consideration when buying.
Currently looking for a 2003 to 2006 duramax
I love your videos. I can't wait for your lml video. Keep up the fantastic work!
Thanks! We have so much content on the way it will blow your mind.
Say goodbye to your pump. Horrible an expensive. Mine grenaded 7k at the dealership
So I’m guessing avoid buying an lb7 Duramax and just buy an LBZ?
I like duraslacks most of my buddies wives drive them 😊
Exterior door handles break but super cheap and easy to fix
Do a 97 dodge 12 valve
Make a vid for the lbz! Or 2004.5-2007
I got an 2002 GMC Duramax. How could I tell if GMC change the injectors? I bleave it has been done but not 💯 sure . Thanks.
That's the voice I wanna hear when someone's sharing information about a diesel
😅 Thank you kindly.
Need to do one on the 4th gen Cummins
Cool video! Thanks!
What u mean u got mouse traps for the cluster?
“A better mouse trap” that’s just slang for a product that is made or redesigned to correct a flaw or correct high failure rates in a part.
Do maybe a 6.0 buyers guide
Coming soon!
I found a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LT diesel for 10k has 214k miles is it worth the price?
Diesel's run forever as you know.
how about a video on 205 threw 2007 good or,bad weak I am looking at maybe 2007 duramax diesel 4 dr long bed
Just had my passenger side injector cups resealed. Cooling system was overpressuring... Already did heads with ARPs so I was extremely worried. Anyway, cups were resealed, new gaskets kit with all the hardware... Good as new. Love my 02 GMC SLT CCLB. Just know that if you get an lb7 have about 5k ready to throw at it lol 😂 good video, looking forward to hearing more about the ZR2 you guys have
Good stuff
Thanks!
Looking at a 2004 3500 Dually with 300000 do you think I should be worried it seams to run good
Is $13500 too high for a 03 2500 diesel.? It has 178k miles and one owner.
Not really, but compare it to others for sale. Diesels run forever with proper maintenance.
Thanks for the video! Looking at an 02 6.6 with 300k miles tomorrow. Any extra things to look out for?
Buy it you won't be disappointed.mine has 323k an climbing she's getting new shoes Monday. Nsbu switch on tranny sucks keep it clean behind the switch it builds with dirt an rots out the switch
@@kennethklaumann8799 Thanks for the response. This would be my first diesel I’ve ever owned. And from the looks of it. It seems like high mileage on these engines isn’t much of an issue.
Mine is a 2002 and looks just like the one in this video I would say get an adapter for the fuel filter and go with spin on filters as opposed to the junk that it's on there now my truck was a California emissions truck I took the smog pump off and I have yet to do the blocker plates or the up pipe I may just get rid of the EGR with block plates for now tie rod ends are terrible on these trucks
How many ZF6 HD GMT800 Trucks were ever made
I wish I knew. Not many, as the Allison was so popular.
Want to trade my 1997 f250 extended can 7.3 rust free for 2004 silverado crew cab 6.6 what do u think
Both great trucks but there is just something about those OBS trucks to me. That would be a tough decision.
Curious about 2015 LML with a allison maybe a buyer's guide thanx
Can you do a video on the 6.0 and 6.4?
If you buy a 6.0 read forums. Powerstroke help is your friend. Don’t buy a 6.4.
On fire
Lit!
My injectors are bad I’m pretty sure what’s the best thing I can to do make sure I don’t have this problem anymore
Replace with stock injectors and associated parts, lines, cups and seals all from GM!! Just had to do mine, they suck to change. Bought genuine to avoid redoing the job
Great information. Thank you.
You're welcome. Happy to help.
Was the pump rub issue on the manual shift transfercase or push button or both?
Both. The 261 and the 263 TC had the pump rub issue.
