I used to work at Captain D’s from 2016-2018 and I love their fish sandwiches and couldn’t resist them. Heck, I even got the opportunity to try The Southern Style Flounder Sandwich in 2023 last year. It was scrumptious. I have also tried the Cajun Catfish Sandwich, though.
Last year, I ordered from Wendy's online and got two fish sandwiches and fries and onion rings with two drinks, which was paid for by credit card. When I went to pick up my order, I was informed that that location didn't have fish sandwiches. They had the nerve to bring me the drinks and sides. I even had to go online to get my money put back on my card. I've never gone back. Luckily, there was a Popeyes close by and their fish sandwiches were really good.
When I worked for Arthur Treacher's, they had a decent sandwich but they are now out of business. This year, I'm going to taste test as many fish sandwiches as I can and pick a favorite. I actually loved Mickey D's filet-ofish but it's smaller now and there's more bun than fish. 😮

Arby’s put’s out a good cod sandwich! I have only remember a couple yrs it was off but, they are back on it this year! I have never tried Culver’s, I hope I get to try it in the near future since, one is coming to our town! I miss Captain D’s, they had one where, I once lived and, Our pizza Chain LaRosa’s Out of Cincinnati, OH my birth place puts out a great Beer Batter Haddock Fish Hoagie with hand cut thick fries!

I live in New Bedford Massachusetts, which is a huge fishing port. Fresh seafood is a way of life here. No problem getting delish fresh fish sandwiches in this town at the many non-chain places.

The best value by far, is Checkers. You get 2 fish sandwiches for only $4.50 (& used to be only $3, less than 2 years ago) verse McDonald’s, costs over $5, for just one very “small” (& getting smaller) filet-o-fish square.
The put a store across the street. initially had fairly inexpensive items. But they aren't very good - actually. Wendy's and BK are hit n miss usually have very wilty unappealing lettuce. Bonefish just closed it's 1 location, a couple aren't in my area. Checkers & Rally's are terrible How'd they get this this list. They are some of the worst I've ever had - Mrs. Pauls is better. . Fresh made Mickey D's are wonderful. Heard Hooters were good.
I’m surprised that Long John Silver’s didn’t make the list-my most favorite fish and seafood place! But I also think that Arby’s is my favorite out of this particular list.

You didn't mention Long John Silvers but I'm pretty sure they and Captain D's are owned by same corporation. Both restaurants are similarly set up but for the year I lived in Colorado and got the chance to experience Captain D's I did prefer them over LJS.

McD's filet o' fish is the absolute bottom of the barrel fish sandwich. Greasy, lukewarm formed square patty containing 50/50 minced fish to breading ratio served on a soggy bun with a sliver of processed plastic cheese product on the bottom. And this was 30 years ago.
Of all the ones mentioned, the only one I've had was the Arby's. I'm something of a fish sandwich snob and as such, tend to stick to the independents instead of the chains. I'm a picky diner when it comes to burgers of any kind and I don't like too many toppings which drown out the taste. Some of these look good, though.
We just got our first McD. EVER in the Columbia valley in BC. For decades the only thing I'd ever have out of McD. is their fish sandwich, which usually is made to order, so you know it's hot and ready!

You folk ought to do a video about foods with fry coatings containing Sodium Aluminum Phosphate/Sulfate. Aluminum and people do not mix, as an orally ingested item. I type this because most places put Aluminum baking powder in their fry coatings as leavening, when it's not and never needed. If doing so has to do with the Code of Federal Regulations, then it is well past time for that to be ignored.
I tried the Culvers fish sandwich once. The fillet is a 1/3 smaller than in your video. Unless they have increased the size of the bun. Fish was lost in the bun. No Captain D's here unfortunately.
Lack of transparency is a big reason why people avoid fish products, including the ones you buy at a grocery store. The "switch and bait" and "artificial fillers" scheme is so common that you think you're paying for a $30 wild-caught Cod when in reality, it's a Tilapia farm-raised somewhere in Asia or South America in the most polluted sewageconditions and fed pesticide and feces ridden animal feed. I would NEVER trust any restaurant to use high quality fish, unless they prepare a live one in front of me + offer proof of sourcing from a wild-caught only supplier.

The only way I have found to get genuine wild caught cod or any fish that is not a switch and bait or a substitution is to buy direct from fisheries like in Alaska that advertise it as such. One source I have used is Great Alaska Seafood where you can order direct online or even call them. Once you taste the fresh shipped fish from there you will know the difference and find it is worth the extra cost. They offer specials that come up thru signing up for their e-mail notifications and large quantity bulk prices. There are other sources in Alaska that do same as well, but make sure you are ordering fresh wild caught products from there.
Hardees panko breaded fish sandwich during lenten season is the best. Puts McDonald's filet o fish to shame. Cannot find the filet in McDonald's fish sandwich. Seriously, spend 5 dollars and see for yourself. Culvers and hardees hands down in upper midwest

Hands down, Culvers fish sandwiches (and dinners) are the best. And second for me is Arby's. At 2 for $6 right now (lent season) you would be foolish NOT to try them.
They need to get rid of by season only and serve all the time. The same thing with breakfast, many times at dinner I prefer to eat eggs, quit telling us when we can eat certain dishes.
ALL of the ocean fish contain mercury now. Including the cod, pollack, salmon. The test amounts are shown on the FDA's website. I quit tuna completely over 20 years ago, after they started putting warnings on the cans.
Actually these "seasonal" fish sandwiches coincide with the Catholic period of Lent from February untill Easter when Catholics don't eat meat on Fridays. Some people even give up meat for the whole 40 days.
While culver's has a great fish sandwich at our local store the quality like everything else on the menu has gone down. The sandwich was not only dripping with grease but the fish was burnt. I hate tartar sauce and pickles on my fish. I use hot sauce
I love Captain Ds but I got a fish sandwich there and halfway through I got a bad tasting bite. I opened the bun and found some rotten lettuce. I called the location ant told them about it and them just seemed so unconcerned. That left a worse taste in my mouth than the rotten lettuce.
I guess all Arby's are different as in managers, staff , cooks but the worst fish sandwich I ever had was a Arby's. Some Arby's are better than others but the one I went to was bad.
Yes, it depends on who cooks it more than anything because, you really have to know how to fry / cook it in the deep fryer, because, if they don’t it will easily get under cooked or over cooked. Never had any of those problems at any the Arby’s I had it! That’s awful to hear because, if you went to a Arby’s that done it right, the bread in ding is a lightly battered, not heavily and, it has a nice lightly salted crispy texture, it’s been one of the best fish sandwiches that , I have had, it’s a white fish but, it’s no longer Cod, Cod is still what makes the best fish sandwich!
Had a Wendy’s fish sandwich yesterday. It was horrible! It seemed like it was from the day before, dry, hard and nasty. Trust me, I am not a fast food snob. I was shocked to find so many people loved it. Maybe I just had a bad crew to serve me. Did not seem fresh at all. I will try it again next Lent Friday.
Only fast food chains I know about of quality only serve fish sandwiches during spring Catholic lent time. The ones the serve year round, McDonalds, Burger king, are only ok.
I ate at Captain D'd twice: FIRST AND LAST time, and that was one visit. Can you say GREASY, boys and girls? T depends on whose cooking that fish and knows what they are doing! Fish can easily be under cooked and, easily over cooked in the fryer! The breading will taste greasy if if it’s over done. Yep, and, if they aren’t keeping those fryer’s clean, that sure does ruin the customer’s experience! If that fryer isn’t kept clean,complain because, it can also make your fish taste old and funky and, you maybe questioning if the fish is very fresh!
I love captain D's giant fish sandwich. I always order one when I go there. Culvers I was NOT impressed with at all. Over priced and the food is not that great. Spent over 50 bucks buying myself and family a meal from there, so disappointed. Never again.
This is going to surprise you all. My favorite fish 🐟 sandwich 🥪 is from --- White Castle 🏰. Panko breaded, boneless, Alaskan cod. The slider is excellent 👍. McDonald’s Filet-o-Fish absolutely sucks. 👎
Their managers are dumb AF as well. I ordered 2 BnC to take into work on evening. Neither had cheese. I called and they said they would take care of me. A week or so later I come in and told them who I talked to, and the person goes to the back and brings me two cups of cheese. As if I still had the sandwiches.

Only place I seen Checkers was in the south. It's Rally's in Ohio. That being said there was a Checkers in Dayton, Ohio. I think there's one in Cincinnati too. Doing some research seems like Checkers was basically in the south and north east and Rally's served the midwest and California. In 1999 the Checkers purchased Rally's, and since then it seems to be up to the franchisee to with name they want to run under.

Culver’s fish cannot be beat. The only comparable if you’re lucky to live in the area come from Frisches, my fav from childhood.

The "switch and bait" and "artificial fillers" scheme is so common that you think you're paying for a $30 wild-caught Cod when in reality, it's a Tilapia farm-raised somewhere in Asia or South America in the most polluted sewageconditions and fed pesticide and feces ridden animal feed.
I would NEVER trust any restaurant to use high quality fish, unless they prepare a live one in front of me + offer proof of sourcing from a wild-caught only supplier.

The only way I have found to get genuine wild caught cod or any fish that is not a switch and bait or a substitution is to buy direct from fisheries like in Alaska that advertise it as such. One source I have used is Great Alaska Seafood where you can order direct online or even call them. Once you taste the fresh shipped fish from there you will know the difference and find it is worth the extra cost. They offer specials that come up thru signing up for their e-mail notifications and large quantity bulk prices. There are other sources in Alaska that do same as well, but make sure you are ordering fresh wild caught products from there.

I like McDonald's fish sandwich but I need two of them. I've had Checkers fish sandwich and it was super greasy.
Hardees panko breaded fish sandwich during lenten season is the best. Puts McDonald's filet o fish to shame. Cannot find the filet in McDonald's fish sandwich. Seriously, spend 5 dollars and see for yourself. Culvers and hardees hands down in upper midwest

Haven't tried Popeyes, wouldn't be surprised if it was the best one. I like Wendy's, but their fish sandwich has some weird rancid off flavor in the breading. The one at McDonald's is gross lol. Most of these other franchises don't exist on the west coast.

Hands down, Culvers fish sandwiches (and dinners) are the best. And second for me is Arby's. At 2 for $6 right now (lent season) you would be foolish NOT to try them.

ALL of the ocean fish contain mercury now. Including the cod, pollack, salmon. The test amounts are shown on the FDA's website. I quit tuna completely over 20 years ago, after they started putting warnings on the cans.
Actually these "seasonal" fish sandwiches coincide with the Catholic period of Lent from February untill Easter when Catholics don't eat meat on Fridays. Some people even give up meat for the whole 40 days.

While culver's has a great fish sandwich at our local store the quality like everything else on the menu has gone down. The sandwich was not only dripping with grease but the fish was burnt. I hate tartar sauce and pickles on my fish. I use hot sauce
I love Captain Ds but I got a fish sandwich there and halfway through I got a bad tasting bite. I opened the bun and found some rotten lettuce. I called the location ant told them about it and them just seemed so unconcerned. That left a worse taste in my mouth than the rotten lettuce.
I guess all Arby's are different as in managers, staff , cooks but the worst fish sandwich I ever had was a Arby's. Some Arby's are better than others but the one I went to was bad.
Yes, it depends on who cooks it more than anything because, you really have to know how to fry / cook it in the deep fryer, because, if they don’t it will easily get under cooked or over cooked. Never had any of those problems at any the Arby’s I had it! That’s awful to hear because, if you went to a Arby’s that done it right, the bread in ding is a lightly battered, not heavily and, it has a nice lightly salted crispy texture, it’s been one of the best fish sandwiches that , I have had, it’s a white fish but, it’s no longer Cod, Cod is still what makes the best fish sandwich!

Had a Wendy’s fish sandwich yesterday. It was horrible! It seemed like it was from the day before, dry, hard and nasty. Trust me, I am not a fast food snob. I was shocked to find so many people loved it. Maybe I just had a bad crew to serve me. Did not seem fresh at all. I will try it again next Lent Friday.
IMO no way should Wendy's should be ranked above Culver's.
Only fast food chains I know about of quality only serve fish sandwiches during spring Catholic lent time. The ones the serve year round, McDonalds, Burger king, are only ok.

I ate at Captain D'd twice: FIRST AND LAST time, and that was one visit. Can you say GREASY, boys and girls? I came away with nausea and diarrhea, but had to pull over along the road on the way home so my wife could vomit a couple times. Yep, good stuff that Captain D's grease bomb special. Never again!
T depends on whose cooking that fish and knows what they are doing! Fish can easily be under cooked and, easily over cooked in the fryer! The breading will taste greasy if if it’s over done. Yep, and, if they aren’t keeping those fryer’s clean, that sure does ruin the customer’s experience! If that fryer isn’t kept clean,complain because, it can also make your fish taste old and funky and, you maybe questioning if the fish is very fresh!
I love captain D's giant fish sandwich. I always order one when I go there. Culvers I was NOT impressed with at all. Over priced and the food is not that great. Spent over 50 bucks buying myself and family a meal from there, so disappointed. Never again.

My favorite fish 🐟 sandwich 🥪 is from --- White Castle 🏰. Panko breaded, boneless, Alaskan cod. The slider is excellent 👍. McDonald’s Filet-o-Fish absolutely sucks. 👎

Their managers are dumb AF as well. I ordered 2 BnC to take into work on evening. Neither had cheese. I called and they said they would take care of me. A week or so later I come in and told them who I talked to, and the person goes to the back and brings me two cups of cheese. As if I still had the sandwiches.

Only place I seen Checkers was in the south. It's Rally's in Ohio. That being said there was a Checkers in Dayton, Ohio. I think there's one in Cincinnati too. Doing some research seems like Checkers was basically in the south and north east and Rally's served the midwest and California. In 1999 the Checkers purchased Rally's, and since then it seems to be up to the franchisee to with name they want to run under.
