When I was younger, I used to really enjoy snow camping! I had a small but sturdy three-person, four-season tent suitable for blizzards. It was roomy with just two people and came with a perfectly-sized vestibule for donning/doffing boots and outer garments and letting them dry out overnight. I learned that finding the right gear doesn't require a large budget. Even today, I wouldn't break $1,500 for everything I own, tents, camping gear and clothes, as I bought most of it used. My favorite tent is three-season, but with a full rain fly. I used it for snow camping many times as it sets up in literally minutes, about five, including stakes. My wife and I set it up in the pouring rain with high winds. That time, I think I managed to get it up in less than three minutes. In solo survival situations, I prefer to use a bivy sack sleeping system, as I can use it both inside a tent and on its own. One time, when the temp dropped to -18 deg F, I said, "To heck with the tent!" and just dived into the system and slumbered away.

We did a lot of this in the north woods of Upper Michigan in the forties and fifties . We didn’t have these new type of tents and equipment . We had those old army shelter halves that became pup tents . We would build a wind break from the spruce trees in the area and used the large trees as the poles . It worked quite well and we never got blown away . We had a lot of fun doing this , winter and summer .
The world's most labor-intensive and expensive coffee and breakfast! Looks fun though and I can't imagine the peace and serenity along with the violent winds outside. Superb!

I love to hear winter winds. If I cant get away to sleep in an old cabin I built with my best friend back in the 80's in the worst of winter I will set up a shelter in my back yard on the worst of the winter nights where I live. There is something primeval about howling winter winds.

Just stumbled across this and found it interesting. I am inside and warm but was freezing during the whole time. I really enjoyed it even though I'm not a fan of snow. You made it look enjoyable for others who like cold weather. Very soothing once everything came together. Thanks. Kathleen
Wow, watching you put up your tent in the snow and wind and dealing with your little stove brought back memories of my unit deploying as IFOR to Croatia, then returning 6 months later as SFOR, to Bosnia! Those tents had the wind whipping underneath them, and the snow! We'd heat water on our potbelly stoves and drink instant coffee and ramen noodles that our families sent us in CARE packages. What fun. As others mentioned, thank you for not having stupid music or needless talking, but just natural sounds. This is the first video I've seen of yours; I'm now a subscriber and telling my son and hubby to watch your video and sign up as well. Awesome video!

Fantastic video, almost exactly what I was looking for. Only thing I would add is, maybe a small glow in the dark night light so we can watch how cozy you are when you're sleeping. That's definitely the most relaxing part for me
I remember my first deep snow camping we was 16 years old my friend and I layed of of school in February in Metro Atlanta and took off to the chattooga river burls ford not a cloud in the sky when we went to bed, frozen by morning the tent was caved in and it snowed 2 feet over night, never seen snow over 6 inches until then. Everything is the camp was lost dug it all out built a big fire and moved the tent under a big hemlock. our gallon of milk, and canned food was frozen solid. we heated up rocks too stay warm at night with, and camped for about 5 days. It was alsome.

Wow I love all the gear but I am sure the pack was heavy. That was some really harsh camping in the wind and cold. good job. thanks so much for sharing your experience!
Wow, with headphones in, you can really hear that blizzard! That's insane! We get 150km winds here in Victoria Australia sometimes, but never snow blizzards. We only get those in alpine areas. That snow and wind is crazy mate! And you roasted, ground and brewed your own coffee beans in a crazy blizzard. You sir, i take my Australian hat off to 🇦🇺❤️🇺🇸

Hot tent with stove, much safer to not have a floor. Snow melts and will seep into the ground rather than creating a puddle under the tent. You absolutely want to have a flat surface with a stove inside.
@@paulgargulak8275 earth around the stove (if snow is shallow enough) will thaw a bit and allow melt to go into ground in the first inch or two. In a closed tent it potentially runs a bit and is between the ground and the fabric creating a bit of moisture wicking farther away from the fire. Tents without floors are also lighter and you don't have to worry about melting the plastic under the hot stove.
Great tech- no wonder the pack was over 90 lbs. But I was afraid that it would be morning by the time you were ready to bed down! Great perseverance though- those were tough conditions!
This is beautiful in my opinion. If you buy an electric wood saw that is charged, for example, with electricity or solar energy, and you take it with you, it will make the cutting process easier for you. The second thing, my friend, is that, for example, at the beginning of cutting the wood, the first piece, first light the oven so you can feel the heat and warmth, and then complete the cutting process.
@@HikeCampClimb My friend, hello, if you would like to take a tourist tour in Morocco or Africa, you are welcome at any time. I will stand with you and be your guide and give you experience and advice.
You can't just start the stove with a little wood. You need enough to keep the fire going, then cut more. Little by little you can catch up as long as the basic supply is close by. You can't be hunting for it during that time.
Great video .loved the collapsible stovepipe -genius. Even though you had some modern comforts it still shows what our ancestors went through having to build shelters and cut firewood to keep warm . Thank You for this video.

I love this. I've done it yrs ago and enjoyed myself [and friend]. I also love the sound of the wind with no other distractions. For me, it's comforting.
Spent a many nights in the middle of nowhere, better weather most of the time. There's a sense of peace that you can't experience unless you do it. Very well done my friend. God Bless.

This is real snow camping life. Thanks for showing the real things. Nice film.
Wow, I love what you do as an adventure, camping in a snowy, windy, dark wilderness with well-equipped gear. How I wish I could do that too. All the best
Great video what a blizzard if you don't mind where's this campsite looks good to camp

Probably not much else to do.
You mean the 1940s and 50s. Nice having you around
Amazing!

The world's most labor-intensive and expensive coffee and breakfast! Looks fun though and I can't imagine the peace and serenity along with the violent winds outside. Superb!
This is my first time watching and I truly enjoyed every moment. I loved hearing the winter's blizzard winds, it was very relaxing. I also liked that he had all the tools and gadgets needed to survive this type of weather.
❤❤❤ THANKS SO MUCH for filming the harshness of the weather. I am mesmerized by the mystical movements and sounds that nature has to converse ❤❤❤❤

I love to hear winter winds. If I cant get away to sleep in an old cabin I built with my best friend back in the 80's in the worst of winter I will set up a shelter in my back yard on the worst of the winter nights where I live. There is something primeval about howling winter winds.

I love this atmosphere, camping out on a cold winter day, putting up the hood, lighting up the fire, and making a cup of coffee. Thank you very much for this video, which allows me to feel this atmosphere.
Just stumbled across this and found it interesting. I am inside and warm but was freezing during the whole time. I really enjoyed it even though I'm not a fan of snow. You made it look enjoyable for others who like cold weather. Very soothing once everything came together. Thanks. Kathleen
OBoy, that stove took alot to assemble!
💯👍 agree
The natural sounds are the very best...THANK YOU❤

I like that you guys can go outside in the wilderness and enjoy your life! Here in Germany it isnt allowed, only if you know the owner of an private forest and he allowed it. Here you only can sleep in the woods in a emergency situation at hiking but only without tent and campfire. Just for sleeping a few hours.. god save america and his lucky people 😅

What is the reason for not allowing camping? It is so much fun and enjoying nature?
I have been ‘living outta my van” temporarily. Marginal heat, no running water, and a jury rigged outhouse … THEN, you throw a ‘blizzard’ in to deal with.
You are on the edge. ❤ No room for mistakes. Ian enjoying you videos even More Now. 👍🏻❤👍🏻

Quite a challenging experience to be out there alone in the extreme cold. Truly admirable!
well, it's not extreme cold you know, and if it was he is already dead with these equipment.

I won’t even go in my backyard
Wow, makes me wanna go camping…. in my backyard.
i will never understand tents without floors!
And I’ll never understand people who camp in weather like that…brrrr. 😆 had to bundle up in my winter blanket
Hot tent with stove, much safer to not have a floor. Snow melts and will seep into the ground rather than creating a puddle under the tent. You absolutely want to have a flat surface with a stove inside.
why would snow puddle under tent and not seep into the ground?@@lothilear
@@paulgargulak8275 earth around the stove (if snow is shallow enough) will thaw a bit and allow melt to go into ground in the first inch or two. In a closed tent it potentially runs a bit and is between the ground and the fabric creating a bit of moisture wicking farther away from the fire. Tents without floors are also lighter and you don't have to worry about melting the plastic under the hot stove.
Me either all tents need a floor

This is beautiful in my opinion. If you buy an electric wood saw that is charged, for example, with electricity or solar energy, and you take it with you, it will make the cutting process easier for you. The second thing, my friend, is that, for example, at the beginning of cutting the wood, the first piece, first light the oven so you can feel the heat and warmth, and then complete the cutting process.
I appreciate your ideas! Thank you.
@@HikeCampClimb My friend, hello, if you would like to take a tourist tour in Morocco or Africa, you are welcome at any time. I will stand with you and be your guide and give you experience and advice.
Those batteries should be warm before you use the saw. Within the proper operating temperatures.
He got it
You can't just start the stove with a little wood.
