    From my understanding you don't all reveal cards played at the same time. Instead first car ahead reveals and moves (step 3) and continue doing all steps to 9. Then second car reveals and moves steps 3-9 and so on. This could give first player less info on what other cars behind gonna do, makes it harder for them if he/she wanna boost, etc. Also gives more info to players behind, like a catch up mechanic.

    One thing I really appreciated is that they put all of these expansions in with the original game. Not only does it make it cheaper in the long run over buying these seperately, but it allows you to add them in as you want to, especially if you want to start adding them right away. Also LOVE that it comes with FOUR tracks right off the bat - great job, Days Of Wonder!
    And fantastic video as well - cleared up a ton of questions I had - awesome job!

    I may be mistaken but looks like a rule was missed here: there's a cool down icon on the Adrenaline step. Dave repeatedly mentions the optional +1 move but never mentions the optional cool down.

      48.42 if Nikki had used her adrenalin and slipstreamed, although she'd have had to pay three Heat and only had two, she was in second gear _and_ had her last place cooldown, so she could have used her cooldown to (possibly) gain 2 heat. That would have let her pay the Heat for the corner (and possibly still have 1 Heat left!). It's really important that you can do the elements in Step 5 in any order

    There are many well designed games out there. This game is BRILLIANTLY designed. The merger of theme and mechanics is incredible. The number of choices you get to make within what is ultimately a very simple game is great, and those choices are very evocative. And so much of the gameplay is very intuitive. With maybe a couple little exceptions, even the more noodle-y rules become like second nature within the first lap of your first game. It's just a fantastic creation. As a wannabe amateur designer, it's the kind of game I wish I was skilled enough to design myself.

    Great video and a brilliant game. I like my motorsport in the real world, so this game has a really big pull on me. Oddly enough, and for no obvious reason, the only motor (car) racing game I have is an old Waddington's game called Formula One, first published in 1962, although my version came out sometime in the 70's. Despite it's age, it's a fun game with simple rules but quite tactical when you get the hang of it. Heat: Peddle... seems to be designed with some of those same attributes in mind.

So sometimes you won't want to take it.

      Here are some examples:
      Corner value is 7. You move 6 to get up to the corner line, then slipstream for 2 to get past the corner line. Your corner check is 6 vs. 7, no heat.
      Corner value is 7. You move 8 to get up to the corner line, then stop. No corner check, no heat.
      Corner value is 7. You move 8 to get up to the corner line, then slipstream for 2 to get past the corner line. Your corner check is 8 vs. 7, you take one heat.
      Did I get it right?
      If so, the first example shows that the slipstream doesn't count towards your corner check, and you sometimes get movement for free. Comparing examples two and three shows that the slipstream might make the difference between corner check and no corner check, and the corner check might give you a heat, so that's an example where the slipstream comes at a cost.

    Hi everybody.

    Isn't it mandatory to follow the sequence? adrenaline -> boost -> cooldown -> slipstream

    • @vh8542
      @vh8542 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you mean him boosting and then using his adrenaline, step 4 adrenaline isnt actually a step, it lets you add the benefits to step 5. I just got the game so may be wrong though

    • @chuckm1961
      @chuckm1961 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not exactly. Dave does not fully explain, but "step four" is an exception, it is really just information that you use in step five. Read the rulebook for more information.

    • @kq76
      @kq76 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The rulebook does clarify that you may advance your Adrenaline space before or after your Boost. And that you may play your React actions (Cooldown, Boost, etc) in any order you like. Slipstream, however, does seem to have to be played after those, and before the Corner Check.

  • @aosggame
    @aosggame ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Aren't you supposed to decide if you're going to do Adrenaline BEFORE deciding to boost/cooldown? Thought you're supposed to go through steps 3 to 7 in order.

    • @kq76
      @kq76 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No. The Adrenaline step is more just for you to take a mental note. The rules clarify that you may advance your Adrenaline space before or after Boost and that you may perform the (step 5) React actions (Boost, Cooldown, etc) in any order you like.

    Does really slipstreaming count towards the corners....and with adrenaline,dont' you get a "free" cooldown?

    • @boardgamegeek
      @boardgamegeek  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The additional 2 movement does not count but if you go over the line your total speed counts, plus any boosting or adrenaline. We did keep missing the bonus cool down for those in last place. But it means we might do another episode with more players and some expansions. We really love the game. Thanks for the note and for watching.-Lincoln

      Great play through as usual, I just watch it a second time after I was lucky enough to find a copy of the game at Tampa Con! I was so excited I finally found a copy! A few times I was confused in the video about slipstreaming around corners. “Slipstreaming does not increase speed value for the purpose of the check corner step.” For example, if you move 3 on a 3 corner and you have not made it pass the corner but you land right behind or on the side of someone, you can slipstream pass the corner with out adding value to the corner, thus not having to pay heat or spin out. It still only counts as you moved 3. Thank you for Game Night and all you do for the hobby! My confusion might be you guys might not have slipstreamed across the corner because the car speed was over the corner speed limit to begin with. I’ll have to rewatch. Oh shucks! 😂

    It looks like you're playing with all players revealing their played cards at the same time. According to my rulebook, a player reveals their cards only at the start of their activation, so they won't know the cards played by other players going later in the round.

    • @NOTORIOUS_BART
      @NOTORIOUS_BART ปีที่แล้ว

      No, with 5 cars or more you use adrenaline for 2 last cars. In the game with 4 cars or less you use adrenaline only for the last one.

      If you play with the "garage module", you start the game with a draft of dozens of upgrade cards, such as brakes, tires, wings, cooling systems, suspension, etc., so yes, you can build an engine of sorts. -WEM

    This game looks like a lot of fun. I'm eager to try it and compare it to Thunder Rolls. I've never heard the term "Socialism" used to describe any sort of 'catch-up' mechanism in a board game. I'm not a fan of that usage. While it may feel lazy and tacked-on in some games, such a mechanism can introduce a fun and interesting strategic element, like in Tokaido, for example. "Socialism" is appropriately used as a pejorative, but not necessarily for this type of game mechanic.

    • @LaChazzz
      @LaChazzz 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The game does have the same problem as its predecessor, Flamme Rouge. Because it wants the race to be so close until the end (and avoid a runaway leader), you will always the opportunity to catch up indeed, so it feels like only the last turn really matters.

  • @CharlesHepburn2

    These rules seem a bit awkward and clunky... at least at first. It's like I want to race fast on my turn, but there are these little rules trying to thwart me and slow me down. Maybe it gets better after several plays.

      Jaayse, I'm sorry that you are bothered by them. Gamegenic's sponsorship allows BoardGameGeek to actually earn income from these videos after 10 years of almost no income. We are also showing ads for products that are more likely to be of interest to our audience. I do not enjoy most of the ads that TH-cam serves so I am appreciative we can turn them off on GameNight! videos. Thankfully our ads are skippable if you really can't watch them. -Lincoln

    • @d1oftwins
      @d1oftwins ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I actually do not mind them since they are coming up between the chapters, where there is a natural break of the content, so it doesn't seem to intrusive. It's actually clever to do it that way. Three short add-breaks in an 1:36h video isn't that much do endure. Your sensibilities may vary but c'mon, give them a break (pun totally intended). 😉

    • @SharienGaming
      @SharienGaming ปีที่แล้ว +3

      i kinda like the look of their products, so i dont mind these all that much - but the ads are WAY louder than the content, which tends to blast my ears pretty badly... and for a headphone user thats VERY unpleasant... i would appreciate it if the volume on those (and maybe the intro) was tuned down a little, to be more in line with the rest of the audio

    • @jaayse3690
      @jaayse3690 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's the music that really annoys me (if you can call it that), it is loud and incongruous. I can ignore the ad if it wasn't for that, worse than the pop ups or ads you have to skip.
