Hard pass on both. $85k to $93k is insane. You would need to knock $40k off the price for these things to be affordable for the average buyer. Pickup trucks are becoming a luxury game. At that price point, it's boycott time. You could pretty much rebuild an older truck from the ground up for that kind of money. New engine, new transmission, upholstery, custom cameras and audio. Everything. Buy used, fix it. Great review gents, complete, informative, and entertaining. Depressing as all hell on the prices, but good video.
Well said. I have a 2014 RAM 1500 Laramie with 3.0 ecodiesel. 170km. Id do suspention work and put a new create engin in before spending that money. Idk 10,000 and you have a new truck, vs 95,000.
Pricing on trucks is nuts no doubt, but $40k lower is foolish. Sticker price of $75k on the GMC, $65-70 on the Ram, is realistic. Ram is back to advertising $10,000 off and 2% financing. And if you don’t want a luxury truck don’t buy one lol. A current $60,000 Canadian truck should be more like low 50s, and it’ll have cloth.
Don't forget you're running 3.92 gears on the Ram and 3.23 on the GMC. That will make the difference in fuel economy (and tow capacity). I had a Ram with 3.92s and just recently bought one with the 3.21 gearing, both running the 5.7. Noticed a big difference in fuel mileage and I didn't need the huge tow capacity (still does 8000 lbs. though). A proper fuel mileage comparison should have been with a RAM that had the 3.21 in my opinion. I drove a new GMC before I bought the most recent RAM and I still preferred the RAM interior, but that will be more personal preference I think.
WOW … I was not expecting the end fuel mileage result to be like it. Yeah, I just did some quick math, I have a 60 mi (aprox 100k) round trip to work, the GMC would save me $1560 in fuel per year if it was $6 cheaper per 100k. After a few years, the price difference is a wash.
Probably the 3.92:1 in the RAM launching quicker than the 3.23:1 in the GMC Sierra or the Sierra having a 3.42:1 but yes both transmissions shifts very smoothly despite the 2 gear difference

Those 3.92 gears really hurt the fuel economy in the Ram. I don’t think Ram takes the gear ratio into account when printing the epa fuel economy for trucks which is why there is such a difference between advertised and actual mpg

Also, they didn't mention the higher cost of premium fuel for the AT4X which is around 50 cents more per gallon. I don't know what the difference is per litter of gas in Canada, but I'm sure it is similar to the USA.
Another great review guys! Both trucks look very nice but I wouldn't trust either one. Between AFM/DFM/MDS these engines are way too prone to failure. Any money "saved" on gas will be spent on repairs or a whole new engine when the camshaft and lifters crap out around 100k.

But, it too, gets terrible mileage, but at least it's a solid reliable truck. Fuck the big 3 nowadays. NEVER again will I buy their garbage.
I always disable my MDS by manually changing the gear selector to 8. You can also disable the start/ stop feature on the Rams. Never had a problem in my 18 or my 21.

Great review guys thank you! I think Ram will have the last laugh in the showroom. They'll just do like the current Ram classic. Keep an affordable previous generation model, with small refreshers To attract a more price conscious buyer. They'll sell this new model later down the road as the classic, And make a ton of sales while their tool and die is long paid for. GMC will be constantly changing to battle with Ford and Toyota . The new Ram might not be the better truck, but it will sell better in years to come.
GMC but isnt that the one u should pick being about $10k more in price?? The question is; is the at4 worth $10k more with cylinder deactivation which isnt the most sought-after feature honestly. I would like to see a max payload test and max tow test on both along with a good deep snow/mud test to see if the front locker is really a big advantage. On paper it is but in the real world? Which one rides better under that max payload and max towing scenario? Im probably gonna bet on the ram in that case but i think it will give a better answer to which one is really worth its price tag. Thank you guys for the content you bring, id love to be an automotive journalist!
On TFL they towed up the Ike Gantlet with a Ram and an F-150 Hybrid and guess what the Hemi outperformed the F-150 booster/hybrid in both power and mileage and was picked the winner to the amazement of the TFL boys. 😂🤩

My gripes about this video: No performance testing. No mention of the Rambox storage, which is downright awesome. No comparison of the engines and transmissions work. Ram's revs far more before shifting (annoying and hurts mpg).
At the end of the day, i think that discrepancy in tow capacity for me personally is worth it over all that little stuff like mpg and the full digital gauge cluster. Also, I'm not sure if the Rebel GT has this, but some Rebels come with the air suspension at each wheel, which I'm sure changes the ride quality.
Ram rebel doesn’t have its own mpg tag like the gm trucks do. The trailboss and at4 have their own mpg rating. Surprised ram gets away with that. And then on top of that the trucks readout was that far off ?!?! Did you guys use 89 like the ram recommends ? And 91 for the gmc ?
I only use it for towing heavy as it adds to better performance. I think it's the same with the GM 6.2L and the Ford Booster. They need premium to tow for max performance.
@@johnengel9162 the owners manual calls for 89 octane all the time. 87 is acceptable. The truck is incapable of making use of 91...Not only does proper octane boost power, but it affects fuel economy.
I abhor the start/stop feature on vehicles. I have yet to see anything that says that feature doesn’t put more wear and tear on the battery and starter. That being said, if I’m able to disable it (usually via a button), I can live with it.
Such a limited test. I’m not quite buying that result. I owned a 2017 GMC Sierra SLE 4x4 5.3 and put on 28k miles averaging 17.2 mpg with 18” wheels and 3.42 gears. I then owned a 2019 Ram Big Horn 4x4 5.7 non-etorque and put on 25k miles averaging 16.3 mpg with 20” wheels and 3.92 gears. I kept track of the mileage and fuel consumption in a spreadsheet along with the trip computer mpg. The computer in both trucks was off by 0.5-1.0 mpg on average and made both look better than they really were overall.
I’ve been noticing this for YEARS. GM products almost always do better than EPA ratings while competition rarely ever hold up to their EPA rating. Same story with the computers. GM is almost always accurate, Ford is decent, Ram is almost never accurate (showing higher MPG compared to real world testing)
I have a 2019 Limited ram 1500 4x4 with 3.92 gears and my mpg's suck. I would get about 13mpg (just put 35's too so should be worse now). Axel ratio matters on these trucks. If you get a 2wd ram with 3.21 gears you will get significantly better mpgs. that is what they don't advertise on the site or even in small print.
I have the rebel gt, I absolutely love it, I also get a ton of compliments and looks every day, so happy with it, I have it in the billet metallic silver 😍
RAM has available air suspension..a game changer and an incredible sound system. It also has the rear camera mirror as an option. You compared a loaded AT4X with a Minimal RAM ...
I'm guessing the jump in towing capacity is due to the 3.92 axle ratio. As well as the drop in fuel economy. The real question is where did that extra 1.7km come from on the GMC trip odometer?
Hey guys I'm a big GMC Chevy fan and I bet if you had the 5.3 l it would have done 20MPG or better hopefully you do a test on the new 3.0 Duarmax people are saying 25 to 30 MPG God-bless you guys loved the videos
The 5.3L is a complete turd. Owned it,a 6.2L and several Ecoboosts. It's notin the same world.....towing ,hauling,acceleration....blah blah My POS 6.2L also required premium gas so what you are putting into gas tank should be factored into mpg. Another thing....the 6.2L stock sounds like shit....literally you hear more engine noise than anything.
@@rodjbosch 1st of all get your fact straight you can burn 93 for the best performance in gas mileage 87 can be done but you're not gonna get the performance And nobody cares about your opinion you must love Fords or dodges blah blah
On looks alone, it's definitely the Ram Rebel all day, any day. I guess if you have the money for either you might as well go big, but both come at what I call house money. Hard pass on any truck over 40 grand for me
I have a 2014 RAM 1500 Laramie, 3.0l ecodiesel, 170 km. Great truck. Paid 27K CDN 2 years ago. Thinking if every needed it id put a new create engin in and suspention, 10K idk, before buying new.
1. GM has better highway gearing and a 10 speed. In addition cylinder deactivation on GM 2. No idea why either truck is running so high PSI in tires. Way too high, usually mid 30s is recommended. 3. Vastly different PSI makes your tire diameter different thus changes mileage. 4. Nice review boys
People come on think!!...3:92's compared to 3:23's with everything else equal that's going to make a huge difference in the fuel economy right there...if the Ram had the 3:31's they'd be damn near dead on equal...love both these trucks however so just pick you favorite and motor on down the road.
I have to agree. GM now has the nicest interior followed by Ram and Ford close behind. I have never ever said that about a GM interior. This was grand slam. Now let’s see what they have for some updates V8 they just poured all those millions into the plant.
Hate paddle shifters, my hands are big and they're in the way for holding the wheel. I can design a wheel setup better with paddles that doesn't interfere with people with larger hands. Also, the damn thing isn't a Ferrari, so we don't need paddle shifters ever
I’d probably go with the ram but with the V-6, it’s incredible on fuel, my buddy an I went hunting with close to half the driving off road we got 12L/100 km… half off road half highway, I own a 2015 silverado and the transmission is pure shit, the new ones are even worse, this is why I’d go with the Ram, although for that price I’ll drive my 2015…
The GM 6.2 requires premium fuel, the Ram 5.7 recommends 89 for optimum performance but can run 87 too. Having owned a 2019 for 4 years now and probably driving the same country spots as you (highway 400, north of Toronto etc), I have zero issues getting > 22 MPG and many times above 24 MPG too. They're both good trucks, at the end of the day (since I'm not brand loyal in the slightest) my decision is based on value; what do you get for what do you pay, and Ram has always offered more for less. GMC pricing is completely bonkers. Also that 50 psi in the ram is way too high no doubt that's the issue as the coil suspension in the ram drives like an SUV and the leaf springs have more of that truck like side-skipping rear-end feel.
@@terryduncan31 You choose to rely on the knock sensors, that's fine, but your engine is going to be knocking and have reduced performance. GM recommends 93. I'd bet you lose 15+ HP by running 87, the nissan titan loses 10 HP by running 87 instead of 91 (they actually tell you the 10 hp loss, not a guess).
Denali ultimate and limited are gorgeous top of the line trucks but the interior is top notch class. And these off road oriented trucks are the present and the future (to hell with electric ⚡)
You can blame the rough ride on the Ram on the 10 ply duratracs, every other half ton comes with a lower ply rating than the rams. Running a 35psi tire vs a 55psi tire is a huge difference
These 2 trucks are way over my pocket book limitations, but if I wake up in the morning and either is sitting in my driveway I wouldn’t in the slightest be disappointed and I’m a Ford guy, on looks my heart would go RAM, but my head would say GMC, probably a lil more reliable over the years, their both beautiful and expensive, I’ve been looking at those tiny Japanese Kei trucks, around 7 grand, 650 cc, 4 WD, top speed around 55 just for in town and to keep miles off my 2017 F150, new trucks are just way out of working and retired folks reach now days.
Suggestion if you don't mind. When doing exhaust sound clips, if doing when parked, can you at least let the engine come down from a high idle to normal idle level? Or not do it the moment it starts up. There is a difference in exhaust note once the engine isn't on initial startup. Another nice thing would be if you could somehow film the exhaust sound under load like taking off from a start. Even just going through the 1st gear. They sound much different under load then just free revving in park. It seems very few reviewers do this, and it would be nice way to differentiate yourselves by doing this. 🙂 Great job on the review otherwise.👍
My 2021 Tundra SR5 which is lifted with after market tires from the dealership is more than $30K cheaper than the GMC and $26k cheaper than the Ram. Considering 99% of buyers aren't going to be rock climbing, that is a lot of money to pay for "tech".
Just like your lift kit the prices are completely unnecessary but people still get them and say 3 years later while looking around all stunned like in their driveway they suddenly realize ohhh fuck boye I screwed up.
I drive them both. The Rebel is more comfortable over the AT4X if the Rebel has Air Suspension. The one from the test doesn’t have it. Regarding the fuel consumption the injection on the 6.2 is telling the better numbers
It's needs to be said that you can't Compare the Bilstiens on the RAM to the DSSVs. The Bilstiens that come on the RAM are 4600 series. Litte better than Monroe shocks.
I think they are both great looking trucks, I also think they are prohibitively expensive, so I wouldn't buy either one of them. However, if you were to let me pick one of the two for free, I would rather have the GMC.
The AT4 would be a better comparison vs the Rebel. Neither Ram nor Ford has an AT4X competitor and GM doesn't have a TRX/Raptor competitor, so it's really like apples and oranges trying to compare models when an equivalent doesn't exist. If you add the 6.2L engine and a custom exhaust to a loaded out AT4, then you would be almost exact on pricing with a loaded Rebel GT (maybe even cheaper for the Rebel). The design of the AT4X would be more equal to an offroad version of the Ram 1500 Limited if that existed. The rebel is nice, but it's not at the same level of styling as the Ram 1500 Limited. The AT4X is similar in style and build as the Denali Ultimate, and the Ram 1500 Limited can go to toe to toe against the Denali Ultimate, but there is a significant price premium for the Denali Ultimate over the Limited, so that's a significant consideration.
I was thinking about buying a new truck, but when a 1/2ton cost almost 100k , I think I will rebuild my 2nd gen, I could put 40k into my old truck and smoke ether one of these in every category. Ridiculous

Sierra is a looker. Cool you guys were filming in my hometown.
Question: Were you using the 89 octane fuel the Ram 1500 calls for?
11:15 - "...and we even hit a school bus" 😮 I guess that means something else in Canadian. Nice comparison video.
Listened back to it with a critical ear - It does sound kind of funny! **NO CHILDREN WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS VIDEO**🤣
Thanks for watching!
I have a 2019 Limited ram 1500 4x4 with 3.92 gears and my mpg's suck. I would get about 13mpg (just put 35's too so should be worse now). Axel ratio matters on these trucks. If you get a 2wd ram with 3.21 gears you will get significantly better mpgs. that is what they don't advertise on the site or even in small print.
air pressure should of been equal. 10psi will make a big difference in milage. anyways good video!
and more noise
I have the rebel gt, I absolutely love it, I also get a ton of compliments and looks every day, so happy with it, I have it in the billet metallic silver 😍
RAM has option digital instrument cluster heads up display and rearview mirror camera. It’s still more affordable.
I am a diehard Ford guy, but both of these trucks are sharp!
The Multi-matic offroad system makes more sense for your snowy winter roads.
Thank God I bought a new Ram Built to Serve Edition in 2020 for a measly $38000 .
RAM has available air suspension..a game changer and an incredible sound system. It also has the rear camera mirror as an option. You compared a loaded AT4X with a Minimal RAM ...
If I were to buy a ram it'd be this model. I prefer the GMC though.
Are them tow hooks real ??? I heard some are just for looks !!!!
It's notin the same world.....towing ,hauling,acceleration....blah blah
My POS 6.2L also required premium gas so what you are putting into gas tank should be factored into mpg.
They don’t offer the 5.3 in the at4x.
@@rodjboschI have a new 5.3 with the 10 speed it’s and far from a turd . Try driving a tundra 5.7 . That’s a turd
Hey Steve. Sneaking back home to watch the show. Tell my boss I'm not here 🤣😅 Truck King your Awesome. Hello Howard!!
AT4X by far
The AT4x looks the best to me.... Yet I must say those are to great trucks....
Awesome video...I lke The Ram 1500 Rebel GT the best
1. GM has better highway gearing and a 10 speed. In addition cylinder deactivation on GM
2. No idea why either truck is running so high PSI in tires. Way too high, usually mid 30s is recommended.
3. Vastly different PSI makes your tire diameter different thus changes mileage.
4. Nice review boys
If your not towing alot the 3.21 gears is great on fuel compared to the 3.93 on the g/t package .
AT4X no question. Better off-roader and more luxurious.
I'd takethe GMC🔥🔥👍🏾👍🏾
The most awarded and most reliable pick up RAM-1500 KING OF TRUCKS..👌👍
People come on think!!...3:92's compared to 3:23's with everything else equal that's going to make a huge difference in the fuel economy right there...if the Ram had the 3:31's they'd be damn near dead on equal...love both these trucks however so just pick you favorite and motor on down the road.
Ram has to sound louder so when it gets stuck off roading the recovery crew can find it. GMC won’t have that problem. Super channel guys.👍🇨🇦
Gmc for me. I Gotta give RAM a thumbs up for finally putting a real shifter back in it!
tHx Guys 🙂
The extra psi might be the diff in odomitor reading too.
The 6.2 doesn't require premium fuel. I own one and run 87 in it and it does fine.
Snow still ? It’s 80 and the birds are chirping in Texas.
That Toyota is a 2014 inside🤣 that Toyota is a 2014 outside🤣 2023 vs 2014 of course it's cheaper 🤔
Just like your lift kit the prices are completely unnecessary but people still get them and say 3 years later while looking around all stunned like in their driveway they suddenly realize ohhh fuck boye I screwed up.
The axle ratio on the Ram is lower, so I assumed it would be harder on fuel
No better tire than a Duratrac.
I drive them both. The Rebel is more comfortable over the AT4X if the Rebel has Air Suspension. The one from the test doesn’t have it. Regarding the fuel consumption the injection on the 6.2 is telling the better numbers
The air suspension is garbage though
I had Grand Cherokee, after that 2 x RAM’s and no issue with Air Suspension in years and hundreds of thousands of miles
It's needs to be said that you can't Compare the Bilstiens on the RAM to the DSSVs. The Bilstiens that come on the RAM are 4600 series. Litte better than Monroe shocks.
Am I missing something or did everyone get a raise? I do well for myself but could never justify that much debt on a depreciating asset
GMC looks way better!
Ram looks way better!
love the look of both, but they seem more like over complicated toys then trucks ... and with a hefty price tag on each ...
I think this is a good example that you get what you pay for.
GMC hands down has the better looking style.
The axle ratio makes a huge difference Compared the same to be fair
I think they are both great looking trucks, I also think they are prohibitively expensive, so I wouldn't buy either one of them. However, if you were to let me pick one of the two for free, I would rather have the GMC.
manual says you can run 87 for the 6.2
So weird that the fuel economy ratings are flip flopped
Gm always had better mpg. Gmc looks better too
The AT4 would be a better comparison vs the Rebel.
Ridiculous
It's why I got rid of my 21 ram. My fuel mileage was pitiful.
Way too expensive for a depreciation asset.
The price is bonkers.
Stop start does nothing for efficiency imo. Dumbest feature in a long time manufacturers have put in
Comparing any modern truck to this GMC is insulting this masterpiece
Imagine if the gmc had 4.10 or 4.30 gear ratios fuel economy would be 17 mpg and 35 to 37 inch tires would be beast mode for gmc
395 hp for the 5.7 Hemi
