    Something to note: Keep in mind that I'm just a normal guy who loves cars. I'm not a trained mechanic, although my father was. If something interesting car wise comes up, I try to film it and upload it for entertainment and the "look at what I done" factor. Pat me on the back, or give me a "good game" pat on the butt. These videos are meant to inspire other DIYers. Working on cars can be dangerous, even life threatening, if the proper cautionary measurements aren't taken. You also run the risk of damaging your vehicle and or voiding your warranty. If for any reason you feel like the job is too big to handle, I would suggest consulting with a professional mechanic.

    RIP loggy. You had a short, but eventful and wavy run! New manifold is gonna be way better.
    This is why people love your channel man. You just have a go get 'em spirit. Work bench is a wooden crate, no drill press and drilling through thick steel anyways, learn as you go. Totally awesome!

      Dude, can't wait to show how it came out! Almost finished. Just need to belt sand the flange flat. I appreciate that. I have minimal tools, but who's to say that should stop you. lol... that kind of stuff will come later, but where' the struggle in that? Hahah

    Can't wait to see the end result, someday I'd like to make just a simple log manifold for my 1.4

      You and me both! Log styles are pretty easy to make even with minimal fabrication skills. Once I finish this project I'll see if I can get a donor, or someone will to be a guinea pig so I can make a jig and offer some log style manifolds.

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wish! I made a trip to the machine shop to grab the block and he said, hold on. They just billed me for the pistons. He thought they had arrived, but they were for a different customer. So I left the engine there, then made a trip back up there after we realized they weren't in. Hopefully soon... with my luck it'll be a full year before I get them. lol

    • @cmattdabrat

      I've learned how to weld over time. Started with stick in high school, learned mig in my 20's, and just now taking on tig in my late 30's early 40's. It can be done. Equipment isn't cheap, but a skill worth learning.

    I like your instrumental choices and just the whole DIY vibes going on. We're on identical pages here with the welding and doin' stuff which is dope.
    I assumed the jegs torch would be a 17 which is pretty standard, but I swear in your last vid I saw a 20 on the side which would actually be a small watercooled torch?! I even called Jegs, they had no answer lol. There's no spec anywhere on the product pages. So I scrubbed the 17 accessories kit. None of the gas lenses for the 9/20/25's seem to be any good. I noticed you have a vape, I was going to try vaping through the hose to see what kind of 'gas' pattern I get, haha. Might be better to make a custom screen somehow similar to the Furick cups. Some reviewers said they had to double up the o-rings to prevent cup wiggle if you have that issue. This is my initial order i.imgur.com/dNKfSEM.png gonna wait on pyrex cups until I decide what # torch I want to use. The HEET is methanol to mix with the flux (wouldn't want to use the flux pre-turbo anyways, back purging is best) and damn I didn't even realize you had an affiliate link I'm sorry!
    but doing good man! This is really cool. DIY welding is gonna put us on that next enthusiast level. I've already been thinking of a bunch of projects, tube camera mount(like a harness bar), custom catch can, filling holes in my engine bay for the shaved look, all kinds of stuff. I kinda want to make my own muffler someday too.
    and Apollo is a cool ass looking dog

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! A lot of people don't really show their mistakes, or what it takes to learn welding as a skill.
      The torch is a WP-26. The most affordable solution I could find for a gas lens with something large enough was this amzn.to/30Sm3P9 The cup I have is a #12 and it was a cheap $31 kit. LOL, vaping through definitely could help see the gas flow. Looks like an awesome list of stuff to get you going. The auto darkening helmet I got from Jeg's is no bueno. It will flash unless you have the tungsten completely in the weld pool, which with my unsteady hands has me sticking my tungsten... and left blind for a second lol. If you want your welds to have those nice colors, the larger the cup the better. LOL, no worries. I do have affiliate links. I should mention that cause it does help support the channel. :)
      I appreciate it! I've always been about the DIY life is it's feasible. With welding, you'll find a million projects you can do with them. Repairs around the house, projects you haven't thought of before instead of buying things, you can make them.
      Apollo is a sweetheart. Such a people person, smart, and LOVES his car rides. I might have to get a reaction video of him once the car is up and running lol.

      @@cmattdabrat aw damn it's a 26!!! haha! thanks I'll get the 17/18/26 kit on the way instead. They do seem to have a lot better reviews than the 9/20/25's anyways.
      Yeah flashing seems to be a common issue. the yeswelders can develop it over time too. Based on reviews/videos, the main things people said are better batteries, maxing out sensitivity(if it has it) and less shop lighting / closing garage doors. People also do this mod of using the clear bubble of an LED over one sensor to act as a better lens since the sensors are kinda recessed. I dunno. Hopefully mine will be ok because the true color feature seems pretty cool. but safety takes priority
      Apollo sounds like a true boss! a reaction vid would be fun. thanks again
