I think Triumph have a winner here, super small bike that was missing from their range, looks good, priced right and huge appeal to the fair sex, wouldn't mind one in my garage and I probably use more than my big ZZR14
Super small ? Hahahah , It’s primarily made for India/south east Asia. We are 5’7 - 5’9 males on an average . I test rode it yesterday, I’m 5’9 and I felt like I was on a horse 😂😂
I test rode it yesterday mmmm it’s ok but imo the clutch brakes gear change , ride characteristics are not great 👍🏾 overall I’d honestly put it like this …. If you’ve only got 5K then yeah for a brand new bike it’s ok but it rides like the price tag 🏷️ one positive thing though the power is pretty good torque-wise 10/10 but would I buy one,? No but for a lot of people it’s a good bike
I just brought one of these for running around on and some trail riding for fun, to save starting up my ninja H2,s and busa for short journeys, plus getting fed up with the fuel I'm getting through, when I first rode the 400x it had a full tank and after some time it ran out as I started to assume it ran on air 😂 so refreshing to actually see the country side instead of a blur 😀
Potholes? When I was a kid we were so poor we lived in a pothole smaller than those...apologies to Monty Python. Nice useful little bike that Triumph. Thanks TAYM.
thanks taym your reviews of this bike have persuaded me too put a order in for one it makes sense for the lanes and A roads i travel too work on even my wife likes it 😃😃
tried to sit on one last week, and because of my bad back, just couldnt get my leg over,so the very help full person, wheeled the speed 400 in,now that was much better, leg straight over, and the foot rests were nice and low,so would i,,yes but in blue which again the very kind person showed me,
Great wrap up on the Trumpet and your opinion puts it in the running I’m sure for many of us actively on the hunt for a bike This I believe will put the RE350 on notice due to price and performance However the RE has the saving grace of looks in the bag Then again double the HP has to make the Trumpet the clear winner Thanks for your knowledgeable review on this and all the other bikes And as always Regards from Florida
Love the 400x like others have said a bike for all seasons great price and very good MPG this should sell shed loads, ride safe and keep them videos coming.😊
It speaks volumes that you can't find anything negative. I think these 400's are pitched perfectly at the lightweight sector with lovely styling, just enough power to be properly useful and good quality from what we can see so far. I think you're going to miss this one lol
Another top video with your final thoughts, thank you. At first I was disappointed that you didn't keep it, but then realised that you would of course have ordered your own new one, not taken a demo bike, so the only question now is how long it will be before your order arrives. Please invite me to the pick up! :) Triumph Ipswich aka Ling's happened to call me on Friday and I will probably be taking this and the new 900 GT Pro for test rides. 400x would make a great second bike for sure, or 5th or 6th for you! Thanks for this excellent mini-series.
I did read somewhere that the getting off the bike to fill up is due to the fire risk. It said if you were to spill petrol onto the hot engine/exhaust it could ignite. I’m sure it could do this anytime but obviously you’re more vulnerable if sitting on it where you might go up in flames as well.
@RayZanibrow yes could be that as well although I did speak with someone recently who had managed a petrol station for years. She told me if someone puts fuel in then enters the building but walks straight back out the police say they won’t investigate further as by coming into the building they showed an intention to pay, even though they didn’t pay and stole the fuel anyway.
I find I am more likely to spill when I am off the bike for some reason, I become all cack handed 😂😂😂 it’s usually telling me to remove my helmet 😂😂😂 thanks SW 😁
What a great bike!! Well presented! Interesting alternative to the KLR650. Same HP, less torque, substantially lighter, lacks fairing and similarly priced. Thanks!!
Still not rode one yet, but its a good looking bike, no doubt about that. Having sat on one it fits me well too. Not sure i'd buy one yet, its a bit of an unknown quantity to me. I'll be interested to see how it fairs after being out for a year and what, if any, issues become apparent. I'll let the early adopters do the beta testing.
I can see you having one TAYM for this winter ideal not too much power and lightweight and frugal and tall yes my crystal ball says this is right for you and of course you know it makes sense even Mrs TAYM likes it remember 😉👌👍
Hi taym I’ve always said scrambler bike are tall look at the Honda CRF 250 & 300 cc bikes there very tall but when you sit on them that compress a bit so you still can reach the ground and still have good ground clearance. The way the roads are going full of pot holes I think everyone should buy scramblers or adventure, bikes, and big, huge 4x4’s I’ve just bought a SUV cause it gives good ground clearance and smooths out the pot holes the road tax is ridiculous for them nice overhaul review of the triumph scram 👍🏍️😎
I saw the title and thought, "What is wrong with this guy?" Didn't realize it was a loaner. After less than 2 weeks I have fallen in love with my Scrambler 400X, My T100 and T120 are going to be sitting in the shed a lot.
Marvellous review, marvellous little bike, it's marvellous that Mrs TAYM thinks it's marvellous, though like she said " not as marvellous as the Rocket of coarse" 😊😂
Seems a nice wee bike, however the way things are going wit "tech" Im guessing my old iron barrelled Enfield will be in hot demand no electrotrickery !
Dear Mr TAYM i have been watching your reviews on the 400X for some time now and they have been making me want to see this bike close up as i have always liked the scrambler style of bikes. My only problem is i would have to trade my Street Cup to buy one.I suppose i should be grateful to have such a dilemma.😃
Have a test ride on one. I liked the seating position, suspension, handling and brakes but wasn't keen on the engine and gearing. It's a very eager and revvy engine and the gearing is very short - first gear feels almost pointless, 2nd feels like what I'm used to 1st gear being like. Basically I found if I was moving I was in 3rd gear! Also quite a buzzy engine at high speed, the 400 single engine is sort of the opposite of the 900 twin in terms of feel.
Hi@@Geshmaal i agree with you completely my main concern would be the short first gear but i only do short rides of about forty miles at a time so i suppose it may just be down to looks and my wallet.
Very nice bike for our rough roads. You either have eyes like a hawk or the camera you use shortens the view considerably. You spotted the washing machine before we could even see the lorry.🐦
We all deserve the good stuff, don´t we? It was nice having you with us, little 400X. Great bike. But ... Why are you driving so slow behind the Mini when there is a perfectly good little road on the left?
A great little bike, but it seems like there would be more wind blast than on the classic 350, because there is no nacelle around the headlight. Any thoughts?
Hi there. I'm really looking at getting on of these. So I'm 5 foot 8 and I'm worrying that this bike will be too big for me. I know...I really do need to travel down somewhere and have a sit on one, but what's your opinion here? Thanks in advance.
I'm looking to get back onto a bike but I don't really have the option of test riding bikes. I really fancy a Moto Guzzi V7 but this little Triumph also tickles my fancy. Very different bikes I know but which one do you reckon would be the more enjoyable to ride and own?
I did around that speed for about 40 miles, with some overtakes but I don’t think it’s a mile muncher on the motorway, more of a back road chaser 😁 it’s relaxed at 60 but becomes more racey at higher speeds 😁 thanks Blackdog 😁
How does the 400 triumphs compare to the Goldstar? Obviously more torque and a more classic design. Any chance you can get Mrs TAYMs thoughts as a pillion on the back of the BSA Goldstar?
Thanks Bill 😁 I can tell you the answer to that but can’t show you because apparently after filming I was told that their insurance wouldn’t cover me (though from a legal perspective mine did) 🙄 As you suspect the BSA feels much more powerful and more substantial. However, the Triumph seemed to have more room and better suspension for a pillion. Of course, a pair of decent shocks on the BSA would make all the difference 😁 hope that helps 😁
Nice bike! Id be tempted to get the CF moto 450 adv over this but depends on what you plan on doing. Advantages n disadvantages on both. Dealers being no.1 probably. P.s saw a 350 classic with the camshaft upgrade on coastrider scotlands channel. Very nice! (Do want)
The only negative I could say about this is the instrument console. It's too small and too basic. Analog speedometer is just not what you want on a bike and that tiny digital RPM gauge is not helping anyone. If it was analog RPM gauge and digital speedo things would have been great. Bluetooth connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation is almost standard on every other bike nowadays. The Himalayan 450 has a beautiful dash but everything else is a mess on that one. So as a user you can never get a perfect product. So suck up this one cost-cutting mess and things are golden for the Scambler 400X.
😂😂😂 it’s gods way of sorting people 😂😂 but seriously, I find it so much easier and spill/splash far less than if I am off the bike 😁 don’t know why 🤔 thanks Likki 😁
If they tell me to get off I go to a different petrol station, I have had numerous arguments around the country over this including taking the crash helmet of , complet discrimination, how did they ever cope during covid?

Love the 400x - I had a sit on one at Motorcycle Live last year.
I’m new to biking, still on an ‘L’ but love the channel - and Bertie of course!
Thanks C 😁 you were lucky, I couldn’t get on it at motorcycle live, just too many people round it😁 good luck with your test 😁
Many thanks.
It was very busy - had to a few circuits to get a lookin!
I’m not a huge fan of the scrambler type bike but I think this is the perfect fit for the style and I’d love one alongside the big cruiser.
