The only way to lose weight is calories in calories out.
Up your protein. Count your calories. Move your ass

You can lose weight on any diet. It is keeping it off that’s the issue. Many of us who need to lose weight do have food issues.
However I think veg , low carb & protein best way to go.
In many ways diet not the issue but it is us.

Of course. You can lose weight eating chocolate and crisps only and be slim. Obviously that’s not healthy. But the only way to lose it and keep it off is to eat in a calorie deficit to lose and eat your calories you burn to maintain. Whether those calories are healthy or not is another thing. Teamrh advice 20% Shite and around 500-1000 calories a day deficit to keep you on the straight and narrow. They don’t say chuck everything away replace everything as they know you will binge. Slowly slowly. Stick within you calories and start looking at your protein carb and fat proportions.

Slimming world I lost 2 stone and have gradually put it back on. Recently I've been doing low carb, high veg/protein, exercise/gym at least three times a week and to my dismay when I went in for a hospital weigh in, I'd actually not lost a single pound. Three effing months of what I thought was doing the right thing (cutting carbs, plenty of veg and exercise), and nothing!

Hi Sharon, you know what I completely agree with this! I joined in 2017 and lost 3 and a half stone in just over a year so it worked for me and that was without exercise, since then though I’ve put 2 and a half of it back on. I decided to follow the SW plan again last week and you know what I’d just had enough! Counting syns and making sauces from fat free yogurt and bloody Quark! And I was getting obsessed with the weight on the scales! And looking back I had an unhealthy relationship with SW and didn’t even realise! I can’t even look at a bottle of fry light now without feeling sick 🤢 I moved on calorie counting this week and had a bacon roll this morning and bloody enjoyed it! And it was only 300 odd calories as well, I’m also doing exercise now as well 💪🏻 Can’t wait for my first weigh in next week! xx

@@nolavout9094 it’s not a question of perseverance! I lost a lot of weight on SW but it gave me an unhealthy relationship with food! If you’re a member and have maintained or met your target weight then good for you but ask yourself how many times have you been back or how many times do you see the same people back there time and time again as they’ve given up. It’s just a vicious circle! If it works for you then fantastic but in my opinion which I’m entitled to, it didn’t work for me in the long run.

I don't do slimming world now but I followed it in the past. I think to follow it properly you really need to do the third speed. The good thing about it is that it forces you to eat more fruit and veg. When I calorie count I end up eating a load of rubbish cos it fits my calories.
Scientifically speaking macro counting is the way to go but it's a lot of counting and looking how to fit the macros in. Slimming world is for people who don't want the head fuck of counting stuff but it only works if you do eat a third speed and not go round trying to make awful cakes and crap. Just eat clean on it then a calorific deficit will occur but the thing is people always want to be clever and try and out smart the plan with God awful "tweaks"
I came at slimming world before from counting calories and already have knowledge in nutrition and if used properly it can be a good tool. But I can really see that someone with no knowledge or interest can be totally lead up the garden path with it. Xxx

I got weighed at night so the day of weigh in I fell into a habit of almost fasting or living on water melon just so I could see a result or get my next sticker for my book. What got me was how a muller light which as we know are full of chemicals were just 1 syn but an avocado which is a healthy fat had more syns. Packets of processed pasta/rice etc. Knock up 5kg of free chips sprayed with liquid poison if you’re a bit peckish. Fat doesn’t make you fat. Carbs don’t make you fat. Consuming more calories than you burn will make you fat. If people were disheartened at sw they would get a body magic certificate for doing 3 x 20 minute walks ! I would have disagreed with this video too 3 years ago. I thought the plan was brilliant. No tracking or weighing if it’s free. Unfortunately your body doesn’t clock you’re on slimming world when you’re shovelling in a mountain of pasta so says not to count those 900 calories with zero protein in. So you’ll feel hungry again. If you lose weight on the meals you’ve said it’s because you’ve consumed less than you’ve burned. If you were 4 foot tall and only burned 1000 calories a day you would put on weight. I feel totally satiated and because I’ve cut out sugar and most carbs, I no longer have those cravings ~ It’s like being set free!

I guess It just proves everyone is different and what works for one is completely wrong for someone else. I could never do keto but I know people have huge success with it. I’m just so glad I’ve finally found something that’s changed my relationship with food and allowed me to eat to live rather than live to eat. Food is now on the periphery of my life rather than being at the centre.

I have done SW only for 1 week so don’t take my word fir it BUT I have always used calories counting and also have several apps that do that for me. I stuck to SW AND counted calories for the first week and SW turned out to be spot on with my calories allowance, plus I am eating more protein and less junk food than just calorie counting. It’s all about the choices you make: if you eat 1200 kal of cake a day you’re not going to lose weight and you are also eating very unhealthy. SW teaches you that you MUST control fats and sugars: how is this unhealthy?

  • @Corealis73

Couldn't agree more with this. My friend's weight has been yo-yoing for the last 4 years on and off slimming world and right now she's heavier than she started originally. Meanwhile, having dieted and exercised properly for the last 6 months I've managed to lose close to 5 stone, while not even changing drasticly *what* I eat, just the amount being alot smaller and keeping quite religiously to 1800 calories per day with high protein intake. Slimming World from top to bottom is an absolute shambles. It's a business, and they make money by keeping you on their plan for as long as possible. If it works for you, that's great, but it's far from the best or most efficient system for losing weight and most importantly, keeping it off.

I agree Sharon. I lost once before my wedding on sw but it took a LONG time and I got into some weird habits and very restrictive thinking and all or nothing behaviours. I started using Noom on the May bank holiday this year and have lost 3 stone, size 10 (not been a size 10 ever!) and it’s just all about the moderation, balanced eating, eating fats! moving more and ditching the food labelling (I.e. “not allowed/on plan”) - never been happier. Not a diet!!! You look great well done.

I think with slimming world you just have to use common sense regarding free foods and portion sizes. Because obviously if you eat too many calories no matter if they are ‘free’ you will def pile weight on or not lose. And people with no previous knowledge of food nutrition can go very wrong. So I also don’t agree on promoting ‘free’ food and And processed package food. But the main principle of Sw are still good:. Eating more speed/clean food and limiting the treats just the same as any diet.

I lost 6 stone in 5 months (post pregnancy and breastfeeding) fell pregnant again and gained most of that back, tried to follow it again as a breastfeeding mum and the second time I managed to knock about a st off. Then I'd drop and gain the same 3 or 4 lbs only to be made to feel like I'd pigged out all week by my consultant. I moved house and I'm a wheelchair user, joined the group, the woman would skip over me in group saying "the wheelchair doesn't like to speak 😳" rash time I tried to ask a question she would be really nasty back, when I left she started givin me really nasty messages on messenger, then 6 months later had the cheek to call me with an "offer" to rejoin for free 😂 I had a gastric bypass 16 weeks ago and for the first time in my adult life, I'm not dieting. I'm not on a diet. I'm eating whatever I like which happens to be alot healthier. 5st lost and really glad I went for it. Basically you can’t fudge on any diet calories in calories out. Ww and slimming world hope following their plan this will happen automatically. Which is does for those who lose weight. There’s much more chance if you are eating speed foods. But like team rh post on their website 15 of those powder crap soups with pasta in is 15 syns. Over 3500 calories. Got to be big to burn that many calories off. I know my video is unpopular with the sw lovers. I believed 100% when I started. Follow most sw you tubers and hardly any have kept it off. Everyone I know who goes rejoins twice a year. Loses. Gets bored. Puts in back on. It’s money to their ears. If nobody gained it the groups would be dead. Most people have been back there several times. They’ve not learned to eat within calories. Just fill on in bland food. Then binge on stuff they want. Gain it back. Get back in plan the next day etc etc

Ok so I want to approach this constructively rather than an attack. So running through the timeline of your video I have a few points and questions. The first thing you mentioned is that before joining slimming world you already had a healthy relationship with food, so why did you need to join if you feel,it teaches you nothing you didn’t already know?
Pre packed sandwiches, I assume you already knew by this point that the focus is on syncs rather than calories so if you’d already joined why were you still torturing yourself buying pre packed sandwiches? You wouldn’t be loosing weight if you had 4 of them slimming world or not2. You also refer to ready meals you couldn’t have in a way that seems disgruntled, we all love food that’s bad for us and ready meals are laced with salt and oils. Losing weight on slimming world has nothing to with luck it’s about shifting the focus to speed food and hard work. So far at the point of typing this I’m 4 minutes into your video and there has been no mention of fruits and veg or salad, just ready meals and sandwiches. One thing I agree on so far is the slimming world prices for ready meals, total rip off but slimming world isn’t based solely on their food products.
Being veggie can be tricky I’m in the same boat as you in that respect but surely you know that protein isn’t exclusively meat. And you’re right cooking from scratch is great, convenient? No far from it but I have to make time I want results and I have to work at that. Not saying you don’t I get that it’s a hassle but nothing worth having is easy.
I think its wrong for you to tell people to not join a particular program just because it doesn’t work for you. With regards to representatives talking abruptly to you that isn’t right at all you didn’t deserve that it’s rude and unnecessary but (and I’m. It saying but to excuse their approach) tracking and diarising what you eat is a huge help if something isn’t working.
Another thing you seem to refer to a lot not just on the video but in your replies in the comments section is pasta. We all love it but moderation is key on every diet and once again I’ve heard no mention of fruit no mention of veg or salad or speed foods.
It didn’t work for you and you’ve every right to post this but these are some things I noted in your video. Glad you found a diet that does work for you, you look great and lobe the boiler suit

I don’t believe it’s right to go so over the top with the title of this video. What we have to keep in mind is that what might not work for one it could work for the next. For example I had a Personal trainer and did his 10 week weight loss guaranteed. I lost 2lbs in 10 weeks so that didn’t work for me. I joined slimming world later that year advised by my doctor and lost 7lbs in my first week. And 1 year and a few months later I had lost 10 stone and have managed to keep it off ever since.

There are lots of good things about SW; emphasis on cooking meals, vegetables and fruit, group support. All these can really change people’s lives. However there are ridiculous aspects, some of which you cover here; unlimited rice and pasta but limited bread, synning cooked fruit (even rhubarb which is technically a vegetable), and most of all it is a low fat diet which may be very harmful and artificial sweeteners aren’t so great as well! I think you are so right to make a distinction between people who have a lot of weight lose and whose relationship with food is perverse and those of us who have just been living too high. When I was doing SW I found myself living the SW life, this was good in that I gorged on free foods and worked out all sorts of strategies to treat myself. I was solving problems I didn’t have and not solving problems that I did have. These days, I have no time for any ‘plan’, we all know that our parents (or maybe our grandparents, I’m old !) lived, worked, played and ate and mostly stayed slim. That’s what the vast majority of us need to emulate. The breaking point for me was thinking about lunch, I wanted soup and a sandwich (made with my homemade wholemeal bread), instead I could have a pasta’n’sauce, no thank you!

Great comment. SW makes takeaways out of bounds. If you are big you’ll lose. If you are instagram Tracy mouse has lost loads. She eats loads of fruit and veggies and has small plates. She’s on the minority. It’s usually ridiculously huge portions and some of the breakfasts are huge. Not a good habit that’s for sure

Cooking with Sharon plus other shit Well you’ve got me there! Takeaways are the work of the devil in my opinion! After a lot of thought, I recall that I have had 2 takeaways in 2019, both McDonalds breakfasts and both at the behest of our daughter. I don’t deny that takeaways are convenient and tasty but I would say that their net result is to make people fatter. Going back to my point that our grand/parents were slim - they didn’t have takeaways and they didn’t eat out. I eat out and it makes me fat, but I have made a choice to shun takeaways because at least I can make getting fat an occasion!

Margaret Binks you could also have 15 mugshots. 15 syns 3555 calories. I appreciate if you are cooking fresh from scratch you can have a healthy diet. People don’t get to 20 stone following a healthy diet. If you are reaching for calorific Crap it teaches you nothing. It’s a diet of luck. If you had all those mugshots your extras plus free food you could be up to 6000 calories in a day. Yes this is extreme. Food obsessed people will look at all these loopholes - and end up bigger. Sharon you’re just saying it as it is. SW didn’t work for me. Too much access to carbs and constantly worrying about what to eat and how to cheat, to be honest. My son is a personal trainer and has given me a nutrition plan where all the macros are worked out. My problem is that it seems a lot of food and he’s constantly telling me to stop starving myself when I haven’t eaten all the food he advises me to have. We are programmed to looking a certain way unfortunately. You are looking great and amazingly haven’t lost as much as I thought. It’s such a shame that this is what people come away with from SW though.
I agree that SW needs an overhaul regarding the information they put, especially regarding the nutrition side of it. Not everyone joining SW has an understanding of their bodies & what nutrition is. SW does work, but you need to tailor it to *your* body, *your* needs & *your* journey & I think that’s where so many people fail, because they’re concentrating too much on what everyone else is doing & spending stupid amount of syns (essentially calories) on absurd amounts of treats. They’re there to be used on food, which is no different to a calorie in VS calorie out / low GI / whatever other lifestyle diet you’re doing ‘diet’ requires you to do.
I’m not a cult fanatic of SW by any means (Lol far from it), but I’ve researched SW now for 2 years. I’ve had so much going on in my own personal life within that 2 years, that I wasn’t stupid enough to start anything. I’ve recently researched Keto, low GI diet (which was successful for me many years ago, & I kept the weight off - barely any dietary changes but just swapping some things around, cutting out some shit, & eating foods that kept me fuller for longer - however, I was incorporating a lot of exercise in with my lifestyle change then, which I’m no longer able to do due to disablement & I’m not sure many ‘diets’ would be equally as successful without the addition of exercise) & many more.
Something I realised was, SW definitely works, & the underlying plan of it is clever, but if you’re going to pile your plate high, shove yourself with loads of artificial crap, & use all syns on treats every day - you aren’t going to get the results you want.
You can still incorporate good fats (avocado’s, nuts, oils) - daily in fact, you can still eat carbohydrates but WEIGH them & portion control, fill up on vegetables (which you should be doing anyway, & they don’t have to be bland & tasteless) & then protein before carbs - no different to any lifestyle plans I’ve followed before. Listen to your body, when you’re full you’re full & it’s time to stop. All of these things need to be taught in SW classes amongst other things, but they aren’t, & I think that’s why people get cross - because of the lack of education & information given.
I think you need to do what works for you. Life is too short to pull others down or their choice of diets / lifestyle choices down. We live in such a judgemental society, women of all ages are judged for being too fat, too thin, small breasts, stretch marks, cellulite, we live in a society that cares too much about how others live their lives, & rather than supporting one another we just all seem to be snubbing one another & it’s so hard to watch. If the other person is happy & content doing whatever it is they’re doing - dieting or not dieting - regardless of size - let them be & love them for who they are. If they’re following a plan they’re content with, let them find their own feet & continue on that path, offer support & if they ever need you be there for them.
SW is no where near the extremes of other diets, I’ve never admitted to the fact that despite being morbidly obese at nearly 5’10” I’ve ended up in hospital having used nothing but online ‘diet’ pills for 5+ months, that, despite making me drop a dress size, made me so horrendously ill I was hospitalised for over a week. Diet shakes, liquid only diets, broth diets, we’ve all been there. They’re far more dangerous to our health than SW will ever be, & they’re the ones that should be targeted long before SW should be.
Like I said.. I do believe changes should be made to the plan, a big overhaul in the wording of it, far more education in meetings regarding nutrition etc, & I definitely think we’ve all got a case on that front, but until that time comes, let’s try & be supportive, I’m so genuinely happy you’ve finally found what fits for you Sharon - you’re glowing. You look so much happier in yourself, you’re looking amazing & I’m loving the purple hair!
    Much love hun x

But everytime i rejoined, i was heavier than before, and each time more heavy hearted with knowing what i would have to eat. food is to be enjoyed, i don't eat anything i dont love now. definitely good on slimming world if you eat lots of sweet stuff, if you were used to eating cakes/sweets/chocolate etc, then you're limited to 300 calories of it (15 syns) which lets face it is a very small piece of cake.

    • @jeromie89
      @jeromie89 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@sharon-startingafreshat50 that's what simming world teach. Or at least the consultant I have. Like the example with the pasta and veg you gave in the video, saying you have no space for protein, I totally don't understand. The only rule you are getting portion control wise is that you have to have 1/3 speed. Reduce the pasta and add some protein to make you fuller for longer. We all need to take accountability for our own actions.
There are downsides to calorie counting too. People can get just as food focussed calorie counting and as you lose weight you reduce your calories further. I should be eating something like 1300 just to be in a deficit now. People often gain weight back after calorie counting because they go back to eating more food after restricting themselves.
There are pros and cons for each obviously. But I certainly wouldn't shit all over SW because it didn't work for you.

Slimming world is calorie counting whether they like to admit it or not. They say rice and pasta is free food but then contradict themselves when they show you their "plate". Half should be salad or veg, 1 quarter is protein and another quarter is carbs. So not actually free food! You will be full rather quickly due to the other foods on your plate.
End of the day it's a low fat diet, literally removing one of your macros so of course you will lose Weight! Many report being constipated though because good fats are needed for a healthy digestive system.
They do encourage healthy eating more than other diets but yes quite a few faults with the diet! Not for me either!
Calorie counting and moving more that's the secret!

    • @sharon-startingafreshat50
      @sharon-startingafreshat50  4 ปีที่แล้ว

yes its a game of luck, i do get a bit of where they are coming from, if they get you to have a big portiion of veg/fruit with stuff you'll feel more filled up so less inclined to be hungry, but that awfulness of not being able to have a couple of slices of bread which are only a couple of hundred calories is a bummer

    • @sonyabladewins1881
      @sonyabladewins1881 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@sharon-startingafreshat50 absolutely! In the grand scheme of things a couple of slices will not make me gain a ton of weight. And they taste awful. I'll stick to my white bread thanks and eat a little less!
P.s fruit and veg still has calories! so so whilst sw argue eat as much as you like it's a silly argument. Especially when someone returns with a gain because they ate as much fruit and veg as they wanted on top of as much rice and sw chips as they wanted! 🤦🏽‍♀️

Why do food nanufCturers put calories and macros on (protein carbs and fat) they don’t put on syns Free abd speed. Because it’s an indication of the fact you waste an hour if your life at group and know nothing about weightloss.

Tracking everything and adding up calories every day is maddening and damaging. Also the way you talk about this guy Rich sounds like his attitude is really punishing and shaming, the last thing somebody with low self esteem and feelings of failure needs. Let people do what they want, from my understanding of slimming world and what you've said here, you weren't following it correctly. Keto is not loads of protein it is loads of fat, moderate protein and 20g of carbs in the form of low carb veg mainly but other things too. Chicken breasts are not going to be eaten at 4 each by anyone and actually thighs are higher in fat and cheaper so more likely to be the ideal choice for keto. Usually your protein amount goes by your height build weight and activity levels so mine is 50g (250g of meat for example) a day which is certainly not 4 chicken breasts at one sitting or even over the whole day. Calories are not really relevant to weight loss as you can consume more calories of the right foods and lose weight.
If you are indeed having all your food in one sitting what you are then doing is intermittent fasting, or one meal a day fasting. This is still going to make the calories irrelevant as what causes the weight loss is the time you spent not eating as your insulin levels lowered long enough to allow your fat stores to be used. If the food you eat is low enough in carbs and high enough in fat your insulin levels do not get elevated and will lower again between meals so that your fat stores become unlocked. Insulin not only stores fat but while it is still out you cannot burn fat regardless of how many or how few calories you have consumed.
When you lose weight by caloric deficit your body adjusts by lowering your basal metabolic rate to prevent weight loss. At this point only by further caloric restriction will you lose weight but most of it is water and muscle mass, even bone density, very little of it is actually stored body fat as that is locked up by the high level of insulin a carb based diet always contains. At this point the body will intensely and relentlessly make you hungrier and you will eat more again and call it a bad day blaming your emotions for what is actually your body protecting you from the terrible diet you are on. High protein will also induce an insulin response and store as fat which is why keto is moderate protein only.
Everyone who does a caloric deficit will find this happening including on keto as many people come to keto with that old false ideology about caloric deficit being the main means to weight loss. It is not and never has been. There is no science that exists that actually credibly states that you will lose weight that way and keep it off.
Keto is hormonal weight loss by eating up to and above your total daily energy expenditure amount of food, while keeping your blood sugars under strict control and therefore not elevating insulin to higher levels or allowing it to hang around longer keeping your fat stores locked up. Ketones are produced that actually get made by converting stored body fat for energy once it can be released. At that point you are losing actual body fat not muscle mass ,water or bone density. The higher levels of fat eaten allow the body to understand it is not in a famine it has plenty of energy coming in but doesn't have much insulin telling it to store it as fat, so at that point you get reverse electron transport. This means the cells actually make more mitochondria which are the building blocks of your metabolic rate. So now instead of slowing down, your metabolism speeds up and you burn more fat for energy. You will burn both ingested fat and stored body fat when you stop eating for any length of time e.g. during intermittent fasting . Nothing to do with calories whatsoever, it is just allowing the body to work with the food the way it evolved to work. We did not evolve to eat carbs all year round, just for brief periods in summer to gain weight. They serve no other purpose in the human body but to help us gain weight to survive the winter and any other famines. Now we eat them all year round and in forms like bread and pasta and modern fruit, that we never ate until very recently in our history and we wonder why our bodies can't cope and become obese and diabetic.
All low fat dietary information and caloric deficit weight loss is not based on sound science it is based on lies for profit and weak science that would never be allowed through today. There was never any clinical trials for the low fat diet it was pushed on the world and has shown to be completely wrong for us, but this has been hushed up in favour of the huge profits it makes.

It might be a lot of calories but it’s less than you are eating now ! Just keep moving. If you say you are going 10k steps you get more calories. So don’t say that if you’re doing much less.
