It’s nice to see a sleek and simple sheepsfoot blade. Underused in today’s knife market. It alongside the wharncliffe are my absolute favorite blade shapes for edc. Better tip control and less belly make them the best at straight cuts. Easiest blades to sharpen too. I used to think they looked stupid when I was younger, but I’ve come to find function much more attractive than looks. Can’t wait to get my hands on the chevalier.
Civivi is killing it on the 14c. Got my button lock elementum finished on F400 and that thing has mad aggression and just digs in to everything you cut with it. That little thin hollow grind is fantastic and a few passes on a 9 micron polydiamond strop and bingo it's back popping hair. I have kept one edge going for a massive amount of card board.
Sunnuvabisch! I literally ordered my first button lock flipper last night. I couldn't decide between the Kizer assassin, Civivi Conspirator, and the Elementum. I ended up getting the assassin with red micarta, but I probably would've got this if I had known. I am a big fan of sheep's foot blade shapes. Oh well... I guess I need to make more money now, so I can support the habit. 🤷
To me, the most important aspect of a knife is how well it functions AS A KNIFE and not how snappy it is AS A TOY. Though I enjoy a button lock flipper’s deployment and closure as much as the next guy, it’s more…how is it in the hand…what’s the steel…and how well does the blade geometry perform in the real world. I have the same knife you show here plus 2 each of the Elementum BL, the Conspirator and the Cogent. All are winners in my book. Great job here as always, many thanks.
Only Civivi button lock I've tried so far is the elementum, but this will be the next. I just wish Civivi would mix up their color combos. The only thing they do in a stonewash blade anymore is black g10 or wood. I want that micarta with a stonewash.
It's linked in the description when your ready, it's definitely a good one, someone else sId that about the colors, it would be nice to have a satin and micarta, could always do a blade swap
The Conspirator does feel different and part of that is because it has a larger, heavier blade with the same size button lock and contact points from the lock to the blade. If they would have just increased the button lock a tiny bit it would feel snappy and have a better button detent feel to it cause it would make better contact to the blade. Awesome review, can’t wait to get this one today. 👍
Great looking knives from Civivi, it's definatly a time where companies are pumping out button locks like crazy the options out there are getting better and better all the time. The little one is cool but not really my size preference. Thanks for the look see Jerad and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
Looked forward to this video. I might have to get this one as my first button lock. Conspirator seems a little too big for EDC. This is the perfect size.
Once again civivi pulled it off.. Just pick this chev up and wow you are not cuts amazing. The action on mine doesn't have as much stick as the conspirator and really smooth . Thanks for putting out I believe the first video on this one civivi should put you on there pay roll..
Lost my Buttonlock Elementum about a month ago. I thought it might show up and transitioned to others. I received a replacement yesterday. Ahhhhhhh. It’s such a good EDC. I’m traveling the Continental Divide from Mexico to Canada with side trips to fly fish. I’m in CO now and only hope they don’t take it from me or not let me into Canada.
It’s kind of laughable. The reason I carry a pocket knife is 99.999% to use for other than defense. Such laws don’t make anyone safer, certainly not me!
It m having bad luck with button locks. I recently got a Cormorant and a Conspirator. Both have more than a bit of button stick. Worse though is that both do not sound right. There is no metallic sound on opening. It’s more like two plastic tubes being hit together. I have watched many video reviews of both and did not pick this up. Though I thought I heard a hint of it in this video on the Conspirator.
I got the Altus and Conspirator. The button stick on the Altus was fixed by taking the black coating off the button. My Conspirator though, that was rough. I took the coating off which did nothing, I then polished the button, then the plung cut on the blade, this made it slightly better but the stick was still there, I then used some graphite dry Lube and just started slamming it open. I did this several times for a couple of days. It's now doing much better. The problem is QC at Civivi. What I noticed is the plunge cut isn't right, the button was only catching a very small piece of the plunge cut. Sorry this is so long but I wanted you to know you're not the only one. They obviously don't know how to properly make button locks and until they figure it out, they should stop sending out this trash.
For 70 dollars, it's a gem. And Jared you are so right....heat treat heat treat heat treat! It is the heat treat that could make a buck knife better at 420hc than another company's cpms30's. But guys will never get it.
I don't know about all button locks, but I think on those new civivis they improved the design. When you check the hole where the plunge lands it is conical and machined on one side. Thats why they dont have lock stick similar to cilindrical plung holes, they can stick all the way. I would maybe call it lockup stick, which is nice, it's kinda wedged in an you only have to overcome this small first tiny distance. Thats why its lose if you press only half way and it will be very wear resistant. You think this is true?
Yes but even some of these can get significant stick, it's about the geometry of the plunge and plunge cut out, and spring tension, all 3 have to work good
The things I've had to do to my Conspirator to lesson the button stick has been ridiculous. I've mostly gotten it to go away but it still does it from time to time. Civivi hasn't gotten their button locks figured out yet.
@@Nothingtoya I did need to flick it 2-3 days and after that gave it 2 drops of oil. It is incredibly smooth now with no stick at all. It's not uncommon that you need to do breaking-in to improve the action and certainly it's true for the Conspirator. From when you see a solid silver line (coating removed) on the blade where the stop pin hits it should be good to go.
@@tobillusion yeah, I've probably opened and closed it hundreds of times by now. Mine wasn't a minor button stick problem, it was button lock up when I first got it. I had to put one thumb over the other to get it unlocked. At the moment, if I very lightly open it, I'm good. I understand that a lot of knives need a break in period but not like this.
Check out Work Sharp’s options. They’re guided (not free-hand), which I find to be fairly straightforward. Gain some experience with a simple one (a GREAT one, especially for travel is their guided field sharpener… small, and has pretty much every sharpening option you’ll need for basic touch up and maintenance).
I have the black cogent and it looks like they exposed the flipper tab a little more to make a better grip to flip where mine is little more flush with the top of the handle. Outside of that it looks the same.
