I love that the pocket knife market has been leaning into the button lock knives. Nothing irritates me more about my pocket knives than cutting myself while folding the blade up.
Just ordered my son the Civivi elementum in flipper and liner lock as his 1st pocket knife for going out into the working world. Hope he appreciates, carries, uses and loves it forever.
It would be great for us knife noobs if you could educate us on the different steels and also advice on knife care/blade maintenance. Great content Jared. You deserve the 100k!
I don't care what anyone says either, I LOVE that Civivi Elementum button lock! I've been carrying an EMPEDC Nymble for a while now, but the Elementum button lock was my EDC for a solid chunk of time.
Long video...pfft! Loved EVERY SECOND, those are some sweet blades! Own several of the civivis, want that dagger! And that rockstead... 😱! A thing of beauty! Whoever wins that will be truly lucky! Thanks for the vid!
Great video but need to watch it again to decide my favorite. Would probably be a lightweight slicer to knock my Medford Nosferatu button lock out of my pocket . That rockstead looks amazing and would be a fantastic addition to my collection .
That Rockstead is a beauty! But I totally agree that the CIVIVI Elementum is such a great knife and for the price it’s near perfect. I had a liner lock and when I saw the button lock version I immediately scooped it up and gifted my old Elementum to a friend. I have some very nice and pricy knives but I also have a bunch of good less expensive ones that if I like it and a different style of the same knife comes out I usually gift them to friends and family so they can experience them and get some use out of them. I gifted a young kid my CIVIVI mini Asticus with the jade handles to a 14yr old kid who was next to me drooling over some knives after I picked up a Damascus version of the same knife with the jade handles, his father was with him and I got his blessing to hand it down to him as the new owner, it felt good to see his eyes light up and I bet he’ll remember that for a long time. I recommend people to gift someone young a good pocket knife so we can show the younger generations how great knives are as tools, plus they they look sweet. Love the videos Neeves, keep up the great work! Next 100k subs will come soon and I can’t wait for that giveaway! Imagine the 500k or MILLION sub giveaway! Ugh… 🤤
I'm not drawn to button locks but I own a couple I like. I recently got the Orion Solaris. It's not perfect but I really like it. Of coarse that Rockstead is just so amazing, a work of art.
Buenos Freaking Dias Jerad, Playing catch up, watching this one from 7 months ago ... HOLY Pennsylvania! Great video, very informative and most entertaining! I especially admired the last 2 knives. I just placed an order with BHQ for that long Russian made Dagger Parrot( I love those big and long types). Seeing that Rockstead, truly is work of art and Japanese mastercraftsmanship. Absolutely beautiful ! Have a fantastic weekend. Warmest Regards from a retired farmer "outstanding" in his field in Arizona . [ Yeah, that is my last name]
Your channel was what got me into knives! Stellar commentary and easy to follow explanations for the average layperson. Keep up the fantastic work! Can't wait for the Zero Kickstarter!
Button lock + flipper tab has to be my favorite fidget configuration by far, some great knives in this set, I always seem to spend some money after your collection videos... :) That Rockstead is just gorgeous!
About 6 years ago I really wanted a button lock flipper. Wound up getting a Brian Tighe And Friends model that was underwhelming. I’m glad that button locks are getting more representation in the market.
I have a Civivi Altus. It's a great knife. The action is excellent. It's a bit chunky, but the scales are nicely contoured and have just enough texture. I just ordered a Kizer Assassin -- I'm a sucker for green micarta.
William Henry makes some excellent button locks and have for years. The WH EDC E6-E10 are fairly affordable compared to their high end gentlemen’s knives.
Love the button lock Elementum. My coworkers often find me just absent-mindedly flipping it open and closed when I'm bored at work. The handle size is just a bit more comfortable in my hand vs the original Elementum.
I'm excited to check out the new CIVIVI Mini Sandbar and the Chevalier that's dropping soon. Civivi has been killing it this year and I'm glad to see a new hollow grind knife from them.
Man all those knives looked pretty sweet. And you're just like a kid in a candy shop every vid you put out to bad more people can't find what there as passionate about in life.
I ordered a Boker Black Widow Strike Drop Point Automatic Knife Black (3.25" Red D2) yesterday and got a notice today that the Boker Desert Warrior Left-Hand Kalashnikov Dagger Automatic (3.25" Copper D2) was back in stock so I ordered one of those. My next one is going to be the Protech Knives Les George SBR Left Handed DLC S35VN Smooth Black Automatic LG403-LH. I've gone on a knife buying spree in the last 2 months. I think I'm addicted. :)
Some button locks I haven’t seen before and a few that I own. One knife that missed your list is the Real Steel Griffin. Not only do I love it, it’s very inexpensive and a solid knife.
Very interesting knives overall. The liner lock buttonlock knives are the only ones I would consider personally as I find that there are too many little problems associated with regular button lock knives with over time usage. Things like button stick, detent lash, non solid lockup etc. Would drive me crazy over time trying to fix. For those willing to overlook these problems a buttonlock knife is a fidget beast for the most part. That ROCKSTEAD is definatly a show stopper. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
Not to nitpick but on the Civivi Elementum, the disc is part of the button and is not attached to the liner. I recently found your channel and enjoy your videos. Very thorough and informative.
Great video! Just got my cormorant with the X's last week. I actually love the looks of this knife and For some reason the one with the X appeals to me the most. I love it and I'm glad I missed the first version because this recent version has hollow ground blade and better jimping on top. I took it apart and it works great now. It has that great "tink" sound sometimes when opening, sometimes when closing and sometimes with both. I'm going to try to dye the scales yellow and green to make it look like Jamaican flag colors 🇯🇲
Good video. I need to take a fresh look at Civivi with the Micarta and button lock. Try waxing and heating on Micarta. It darkens uniformly and waterproofs. I'm loving that Sandvik Steel! I have almost 30 years as a CNC Machinist and Sandvik inserts are a huge staple in machining. 14C28N. I'm really enjoying your channel. Thanks for sharing this video with us!
Congratulations on the 110k followers!! Cool knife sale the other day. Love your videos, and both you and LTK are my favourites, he’s a bit funnier, but you have way more content. Your hard work is definitely paying off!! BTW I’d definitely give that Rockstead a great home!!!
Button locks are the only locks I care about anymore. Never liked Axis-style locks (hugely overrated IMO) and although I still love a good liner locks and don't think they will ever be a bad choice, I am so excited to see where the button lock technology goes in the next few years.
I do think that liner locks are bad. A locking mechanism that forces you to put your finger in the blade path cannot be good. I'm honestly confused why button/back locks aren't more common considering how much safer they seem.
I own the Civivi conspirator and the cogent but I love the conspirator more because of the multiple deployment options. I would love to own a WE Malice button lock flipper but I don't think there are out yet. They are a beautiful knife though.
Thank you for this. I've been trying to decide on my first button lock knife. This really helps narrow it down. I'm leaning towards the Elementum. 😂 at 20:35 you say something that would be comedy gold in certain situations. Would you mind if I used it for a sound bite? "...I have *no* issues."
My ts303 also had lock lash and lock stick. It still has a bit of stick but, weirdly enough, tightening the pivot did cure the lash almost totally while keeping the whole action drop-shutty... I liked it before, now I truly love it. I'm quite enamoured with the Twosun button lock offering. I have the 303, the 313 and the 329 and all are really really solid and smooth! looking forward to getting the other, D2 bladed model, too.
The Sway-back, get this… sways back at the end! Haha awesome review as always brother! Btw I was kinda hesitant to spend $200 for a 14C28N knife but like you said it’s not all about the steel and man it has a crazy sharp edge like you said it takes.
Ahhh, the Cogent. Because of your review this is my backup carry knife absolutely love it. That's just in case my Recon 1 can't handle the situation which I highly doubt.
If you don’t like the scales on the Cormorant, there are numerous alternatives to the black and white X, O and barred versions. I have the frag-pattern Titanium and Fatcarbon versions, which are beautiful. I don’t mind the slightly soft detent, which makes ALL the deployment methods easy to use.
Jerad I found a fix for these horrendous clips. On the TS195 I put small o ring under the clip where it is recessed in to the frame and it gives the clip a little flex. I had to try a few sizes until I found the right one, but I can now carry it normally.
Nice to see a few Twosuns make it onto this list. I happen to have the TS303 which also suffers from lock-stick, was wondering if cleaning the factory oil helped or just lots of using it solved the lock-stick? Nice list, and thanks for sharing!
I have the 338 and it felt like mud with the factory oil (it's for transportation). After a full clean and then oil with quality product it became perfect.
I definitely took mine apart and cleaned it, oil on button locks can make them worse so cleaning the plunge area with alcohol can help, when you apply oil to your bearings use a tiny amount so it doesn't get into your button lock

Same here. Civivi Nox arrived and Kizer Original on it's way :)
Very fun vid. Love the Elemental BL. I have two. One 14C28N and one Damascus. My only button locks. They are brilliant overall designs.
Great video as always, Jared. You got me thinking about that Elementum. I like your idea on the Rockstead giveaway too. Have a blessed day.

My fav is the Conspirator! Mine is so butter smooth! Drops shut when I push the button with no help needed.
"Art Piece" is putting it lightly. Such an Awesome knife. Would love to win it.

Absolutely I love the size of that one it's perfect imo
I'm doing the same thing at my bench as I read this. the elementum folder is just too smooth.

Man Rockstead just hits it everytime I would take the worst one and think I'm a top dog LOVE that mirror

I agree those are the best ones, some plunges get it right but most don't do as well as the liner versions
Highly recommend the Spyderco Smock. It's been my edc for a few months and I absolutely love it!

I absolutely adore the ball clips but it could be the type of pants you wear? I live in Florida and wear light shorts 99% of the time.
Possibly, I mostly wear jeans and the clips always chew up my pockets and are difficult to use 1 handed in most cases
