- Have you ever had to model something from reference images, but were not sure of the best way to get set up to start modeling? This Skill Builder will walk you through the dos and don'ts of setting up a group of reference images in SketchUp!
Download model here: 3dwarehouse.sk...
an extra suggestion: at the end before you start modeling group the faces of the reference images together to prevent combining geometry and reducing the possibility of messing them up as you model
Thank you for explaining this thoroughly!
Glad it was helpful!
But, but how do you bring the model together? A part 2 of this video would be nice.
Best soft soft Introduction Ever!!
This is great, thank you!
the guidebook did, and now I finally understand the chanics!
Been subbed for ages but I've never actually watched a video. Seeing as how great this one was, I'll definitely be checking them out in the future.
Great video! Very helpful information. Will you be doing a video on HOW to model something like that jet or the vespa which have so many facets?
Please watch this th-cam.com/video/7bQXdbCLY3E/w-d-xo.html.
Thanks for sharing these tips! I will be leveling up my Sketchup game in no time
Cheers mate!
Don’t be afraid, just embrace it.
How do you go about doing the actual modelling bit in Sketchup (apart from closing it and loading up Blender instead)
Is there quick way to make the lines drawn perpendicular from each of the views to intersect to get the 3D shape?
Absolutley brilliant video, exactly what I was looking for!
Thanks again. Awesome skill building potential...
This is a great video for setting up the reference images, but I'm having a hard time finding anything for then continuing and using the images to create the model. What I've found generally pertains to architectural blue prints. Are there any additional skill builders for building off the reference images for a more complicated model like this vespa?
Awesome!!
Awesome video and very well explained, Thumbs Up
Great videos, Aaron. Any chance you could walk us through creating a model (like your jet or vespa) using the reference images? Do you tend to create a 2d shape and extrude parts, or just start creating the general shape and and then use the images for a visual reference to get it "close?" I have a feeling some have done this a lot and could share some tips! Thanks!
Generally, I use the references to trace the shape from one side (say the side), and then use another side (the top view, perhaps) to use Scale and Move to change the shape to match reference images... unfortunately, there is not specific script for a model, each one is a little different from the one before!
Great video! Do you have a video showing how you created the model?
Very clear. Thank you!!!
is there a part 2 or any other sketch video that can learn how to match the lining after draw out??
because my drawing only have front n side view
Awesome program
can u share the modelling videos using reference images.
sure
Can you make a 3d model of a shoe with complex organic shapes?. Thank you in advance.
Imagine doing this in VR where the moped is modeled in 1:1 scale and you can walk around it making progressive tweaks. Seems like it would be a much more intuitive process. Perhaps create SketchUp VR for the HTC Vive which natively supports room scale creation.
SoCalFreelance there are actually vr versions of this!! the channel Draw With Jazza has a video abt them

"IT'S NOT A DAMN MOPED: IT'S A SCOOTER." Unofficial motto of Gotham Scooter Club--and for very good reason. Mo-peds have pedals.
Amazing!
What website did you get that modeling image?
How good is Sketchup for jewellery ? Thks.
Hello Sketchup... Hello Aron... Thank You, for all your effort and videos...! It is great to see and learn from others, like being there...! I noticed the "Rotate" tool (Q) could "Infere", with the arrow keys. This is not part of my S15, is that correct...? Aron, when you want to "Move" (M) along an axis, you can also use the arrow keys, to lock direction. PS: The arrow keys are toggle keys, they "lock/unlock" for each press. Greetings from Denmark...Jakob.
new point of wiew to do design..Thanks
works gj
Awesome
Excelente Trabalho.
Thanks!
Damn you bro
in the soft mode of the soft roll. I'm a dumapp...
Can I do this in SketchUp Maker? or is this only in SketchUp Pro?
David Douglas try getting the pro for free
Can't import the image I want to model. Can you help with any tips??
Nathan Williams after clicking import at the bottom you might want to change file type to all image formats or jpg depending on your image
very user friendly tutorial
Hi Aaron, can you import (and explode) a pdf the same way as you can a jpg?
Kim T Only if you are on Mac!
I can not speak on PDF programs other than Acrobat or Bluebeam, while viewing in say, Bluebeam, you can export the page or pages you’re looking at as JPEG’s or PNG’s, which you can then import into SketchUp.
Nice.
No matter how many times I try, the red protractor won't appear.
Have you tried tapping the Right arrow key while in the Rotate command?
which app/software
SketchUp... we mostly show SketchUp on our SketchUp channel. Occasionally LayOut, but this is all SketchUp.

hi friend
Take a camera, make 50 photo's of a vespa, put it into catch123 and there you have it, or use a isense 3dscanner.
You obviously missed the point of the video, and of 3D modeling in general.
Not quite so easy when the subject hasn't yet existed, or when it once did but no longer does.
