    Well done, Elliot!
    I am using Vienna Symphonic Library products (e.g. Vienna Ensemble Pro, Vienna Instruments Pro + Libraries) and I gotta tell ya, it handles all of my sounds pretty well. Still learning though how to do it best, hence me browsing around on the topic. VEPro does what you explain here: better playback engine and hosting of the VST's. Not to mention you can run it across a network on another computer(s), plus run various plug-ins like Kontakt and Play.
    Thanks for the presentation!

    I’m looking into trying to run Sibelius alongside cubase, in a synchronized fashion, with all score staves corresponding to equivalent tracks, so I can actually use key switches to change articulations. Would you say this may work? Congrats on your amazing channel

    Hello, good video! Can I be in rewire mode and also send midi information to the logic pro channels? (simultaneous)?

    Hello Elliot, great work and eyplanation! But is ist really necessary to set the Sound IDs? Wouldn't it be enough to assign the sibelius channels (voices) to the midi cables? Thx in advance.

      Did you ever figure out the answer to your question? I'm trying to do this in Sibelius and Ableton Live 10. I've downloaded the loopbe30, but I don't hear anything at all... :(

    Hi Elliot - great video. I use Sibelius and a DAW called Mixcraft. I have Mixcraft Pro Studio 8. I haven't been successful getting Sibelius to play through Mixcraft yet. My first question is does it matter what sound ID you are using to set up the manual sound set? I have an electric guitar in my sibelius score, so I chose an electric guitar sound id. I chose the Internal MIDI cable for that stave in the Sibelius mixer, selecting the sound device and the channel. Did I do that right? Your video does not show what your Sibelius staves are set to in the mixer. In Mixcraft, I created a strip and set a sound to it. I then armed it with the same midi cable and channel I set the guitar stave to. I unchecked all the input devices in Sibelius. In Mixcraft, they are checked and I left them checked because they ARE input devices. I appreciate your help.

    Great! Congratulations! But wouldn't be easier if you export as midi file from Sibelius and load it in Ableton Live (or any other DAW)?

      For some, maybe. But with this setup, I get the added benefit of using all my heavyweight VSTs every time I hit the play button - without the need to export and import whenever I make a change. This way, I get to hear the final mock-up take shape as I write (so there are no surprises later), and can record the final result when I'm done, as opposed to having hours of MIDI tweaking to do first.

    Good Afternoon, I am Ernesto.
    I have a question, I am working with Sibelius 8 and have issues with the playback.
    I created a sound set and accidentally set the default sound without knowing what I was doing.
    I know how to switch from plugin to plugin but I’m not interested in doing that.
    I would like to use Sibelius as any other DAW.
    I would like to open up the program, begin with a blank page and assign specific plugins (sounds) to each channel.
    How could I do this?
    When I add an instrument I keep hearing the sound I accidentally set as I mentioned above.
    I’ve tried switching instruments but the sound sticks.
    Would love to hear from you!
    Not too many people upload tutorials in regards of Sibelius.
    Thank You.

    Thanks! Do you use the DAW as playback-host only, or do you record and do other stuff there as well?
    I noticed a bug with fermatas outputting as extra time-signatures. Any fix?

    Hi, and thank you for the video. I have been using nerds.de virtual cables to link Sibelius (8) and Sonar Platinum. It works like a dream, allowing each instrument in the Sibelius score to drive a virtual partner in the DAW. I build the DAW console and the Sibelius score together and use the DAW to hear the composing. I add a trumpet stave in the score and a VST trumpet track in the DAW and assign the output cable in Sibelius and the input cable in Sonar. When I feel it is right I play the Sibelius score having hit record in Sonar. I can then work on/ add vocals etc. to the DAW recording. I don't this Rewire does this.
    My question is would this work with Studio One 3 Pro? This seems the best DAW to go to now that Sonar has closed down.
    Thanks
    Rad

    • @ElliotWright
      @ElliotWright  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rad! I would assume this would work on any DAW, since the virtual MIDI cables essentially just become another input to choose from on any MIDI track. I'm not experienced with Studio One 3 Pro, but so long as it has MIDI sequencing, and the ability to house VST plug-ins, I don't see why it wouldn't. Hope this helps! :)

    Is a manual sound set required for the notations that SHOULD affect MIDI changes to be "obeyed" by the vst? I typically have one instance of kontakt loaded in Pro Tools with my midi wired in that way (using LoopBe30, just like in this video) but the sound set being used by them is general MIDI. How can I get the live playback to treat things like dynamic marking, crescendos and decrescendos, and other such notation as MIDI instructions? This is what has been perplexing me. I know it's possible, but I am lacking in knowledge about sound sets and how to use them. On general MIDI, whenever I go into the Sibelius Mixer I see that the cables are often automatically assigned, and then below them are given a name of an instrument that seems to match up with the instrument I'm intending for that line to be. What am I missing? Basically wondering if manually inserting MIDI control messages is the only way to get playback to obey the notation as is.

      ZeroDividesByYOU have you ever figured out the answer to this yet?

    • @ZeroDividesByYOU
      @ZeroDividesByYOU 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@iamnealcain appreciate the comment 2 years later lol. Unfortunately I haven't found much about it. Glad to know this is still talked about and thought about though. Been using Ableton Live now, but sadly there's no sort of integration with Sibelius. I've been tinkering with Dorico however, and it legitimately seems amazing, with full vst support. It's being created by Steinberg with most of the original Sibelius development team that was laid off by Avid

      @@ZeroDividesByYOU I am still trying to figure this out lol. For instance, forte/cresc dynamic markings should send some sort of midi data. But When monitoring the midi output the velocity stays the same.... I wonder what sibelius uses to control these changes.

    how is this method different to using rewire between sibelius and say, Logic Pro?

    • @ElliotWright
      @ElliotWright  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question!
      With ReWire, the audio that's generated within Sibelius is sent over to the DAW to be recorded as an audio track. This can be useful if you want to play your score using the sounds generated inside Sibelius, while recording say, a vocal track overtop of it. The downside (at least compared to this system), is that Sibelius is somewhat limited in what it can handle as far as heavyweight VSTs, so the quality of the digital mock-up coming in from Sibelius is usually not as good as what you can get if you were hosting the VSTs in a DAW (things like being able to use a graphic EQ, additional reverb effects, compression/limiting, etc. on each instance of PLAY).
      In this setup, Sibelius doesn't generate the sounds inside itself, but passes along MIDI information from the score to the plug-ins hosted in the DAW, which then uses that MIDI information to play virtual instruments, which generate the sound. Having the plug-ins hosted in the DAW means you can handle larger loadouts, and apply effects and mastering that aren't available inside Sibelius - and all the while, you can still create and audio track to record overtop of all that if you like! Hope this helps :)

      I see, thank you. I hope to use Logic alongside Sibelius to transcribe rock/jazz from video/audio, as well as compose all in real time 😁. That's the dream!
      I guess if I am going to import videos into Logic then rewire is the best way to go. I have managed to set it up but it's somewhat temperamental, particularly with playback - the metronome in Sibelius plays in swing quite often when it should be straight - so was intrigued by this method instead.
      I am trying to integrate everything into one working system without having to go back and forth between different apps. This means using Logic for audio/video purposes and creating a tempo map, with vst instruments for drums, bass and guitar (I compose/transcribe jazz and rock music) and notating it in Sibelius. I would like to have as realistic a playback as possible, which means I need to link each guitar articulation (bends, palm mutes, staccato etc) with the appropriate sample in the vst instrument. I'm still quite confused about the difference between editing sound ids and creating manual sound sets for my instruments to achieve my goal, but I'm getting there. I have watched your other videos and am beginning to understand how to achieve this :) any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Is that possible to send Midi data for Sibelius and from Sibelius to DAW at the same time?

    • @ElliotWright
      @ElliotWright  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suppose it could be possible, although I haven't tried it myself. If you keep a few of the MIDI Cables selected as input devices in Sibelius, and use them solely for input, and use the rest for output, you might be able to use the input cables to send MIDI info into Sibelius, and the cables in your playback configuration can send MIDI info out to the DAW.
