- If Kontakt 5 is not shown in Sibelius 7's Available Devices dialogue, this is for you. This quick video shows how to identify and load the 64-bit and 32-bit Kontakt 5 Plugins, so that Kontakt will show up in Sibelius 7's Available Devices dioalogue.

I've just had a bad few days trying to do what you had difficulty with.Mine is Sibelius 8 but your advice worked with that .I couldn't find the d.11 file with explorer but I went and found the plug in folders myself and loaded the appropriate file-Worked first time! You can build a manual sound set in the Playback Configurations dialogue - more info available in Sibelius Reference, but basically, start a new Playback Configuration, activate at least one instance of Kontakt, go to the 'Manual Sound Sets' tab, assign which sound IDs will be assigned to each channel in Kontakt, then click "Show" to show the kontakt player you activated, and load the patches you like, parallel to how they are identified in the list of Sound IDs. Then save. Hope this helps!
is there any way to get the metronome to work when using Kontakt? I'm using Kontakt for a piano sound and it works fine, but to get it to work I have to disable Microsoft wavetable synth, and that pretty much disables the metronome.

I am OK, on both PC and mac, with all of the steps - up until 6:57 on your video where you go into Configuration and select "Knotakt - Siedlaczek". Where did that come from? I don't see that at all in my configuration. Consequently I can't set anything and can't get any sound out of Sibelius when it plays back through a new sound set using Kontakt.
Also, at the beginning of your video, you show Kontakt 5 with a keyboard in the right window. The right window of my Kontakt is just a black screen. In other words, setting up Kontakt 5 to begin with is a problem in itself. I've virtually given up all hope of ever being able to use it with Sibelius on either a PC or a mac OS/X.
I saw my kontakt 5 but I cant change to use it. In configuration drop down menu only show general MIDI (Basic). Any help??

You would help me a lot if you could answer me this question. The thing is that I've installed the EastWest Symphonic Orchestra, and I've seen in this video that you already have it, right? I don't know what to do to use the sounds I've installed in Sibelius. You see, the archives' formats that I've installed are .nki, and I don't think Sibelius recognise them. Can you please help me???

Try creating a new Playback Configuration. It will add the new configuration to the drop-down list. Once the new configuration is selected, you can load instances of Kontakt into it. Hope this helps! :)

Ohh, wait - the 'Configurations' pull-down menu? That's the list of playback configurations I've created on my own. If it only has 'General MIDI', don't worry - you can build your own playback configuration, and save it onto that list. Check the Sibelius Reference manual for more info on creating and saving playback configurations.
I am having the same issues with Sibelius 7 (Mac) and my GPO4 Aria player. Sibelius is not seeing them at all. Very frustrating indeed.

At 6:57 where you're clicking that configuration tab, even after scanning the correct dll for Kontakt, the only option available to me on configuration is General MIDI (basic).
How do I fix this?

it could be that you have the wrong dll selected, or perhaps the incorrect path - re-check and try again, then, if you have followed all the steps here, and it still doesn't work, i would recommend checking with the Sibelius Help Forums, as it could be an indicator of some abnormality in your computer. Hope this helps!
Woops, I meant to say the "Playback Devices" dialogue, in the 'Play' tab. Same difference I guess.
hi I am so late in this consequence of Q&Rs but 1)as I was using sibelius 7 and wanted to use my 32 bit that is more compatible with kontakt 5 but I couldnt find any launching point which leads me to 32 bit sib 7(there is not any folder related to it under program files X86) ....and also I cannot find any sibelius sounds under avid folder of my 64 bit location of sib 7 ....how can I solve the problem
2)also I have sib 7 in my labtop and when I run its 32 bit version through sib7 exe which I can find under program files(X86) then I try to check its being 32 bit by going through task manager but I can not see any sign of 32 bit tag ??? what is wrong here?

Nice. Btw you can see this under the "Folder" tab on the right side there also. x86 means 32bit.. x64 means 64bit

+jonj j Hi...I have been using quite successfully kontakt (made a manual sound set for it) and note performer...have you tried that venue?...don't forget, when you're finished with the sound set you have to manually set the instrument (in your case Tap Space VDL) in the mixer track...assigning a midi channel and so forth
i have sib 8 and kontant 6 cant find the vst on that folder!

all 64 bit dll instal in C : program files and all 32 bit dll install in C : program file(84x)

That's odd... wish I could help, but this method always seems to work for me, so I can't think of what the problem might be. Perhaps you should check with the Sibelius Help forums, they might have a better idea. Sorry about that. :\

Hi! You had done a tutorial named "Connecting Sibelius direct to your DAW", in which you taught how to connect Sibelius to Sonar by internal midi ports using LoopBe. I saved this tutorial in my playlist, but when I tried to view it again, there's a message saying that the video doesn't exist. So, I'd like to know if you have removed the tutorial or not, because I'd like to see it again and share it to a friend? And if is it possível, I wish you make a new tutorial about the issue, showing how to connect Sibelius with another DAW, like Studio One or Reaper, for example, using LoopBe. Thank you very much.
Hi Jose - That was actually a different TH-camr, but I do know the video you're talking about. I just checked it in my 'Liked' videos list, and it is indeed taken down. I'm not sure why. But I do use LoopBe now to connect Sibelius to my DAW, so perhaps I'll make my own tutorial video in the near future. :)
Sorry for my mistake, but I thought the tutorial was yours. I would be very grateful and happy if you did your own tutorial about the issue. Certainly, it would help a lot of people like me who have questions and doubts. This video is a bit like an unfinished symphony. Of course, everybody knows how to create Manual Sound sets and loading in the instruments... piece of cake. . Well no(((
For a start Sibelius First doesn't like to save any other folders and the "Set Default" sets the program back to the initial default. However, if you copy the Kontak 5.dll into the directory "C:\Program Files\Avid\VSTPlugins" and rescan, you do get a single Kontakt 5 device. It may be that Sibelius 7, 8, etc does store the scan directories, but when you do that, you could end up with multiple Kontakt 5 devices and others.
To activate it, click on the New... button on the top and that will un-grey the window so you can deactivate the other Devices and select and activate the Kontakt 5 device. When you've done that, you can select the device in the right window and press the "Show" button in the centre. Using the Kontakt player, select an instument from the instruments drop-down from the libraries.
In the Active devices, double click the Kontakt device in the right window and rename it to intstrument you want. If you want another instrument, repeat the process by activating another Kontakt 5 in the right window, assign an intstrument to that and again rename it in the right window.
I haven't figured out how to assign the instruments in Sibelius First, but maybe it's easier to do in the more expensive versions. But by starting off with a blank piano stave score and adding another piano, I did get two Kontakt 5 keyboard instruments playing from Sibelus First.
