I had a 81 cordoba with a 318 engine, the valve seals were leaking my husbands cousin and myself had to change the valve seals that was an interesting job
Did you remove the heads to do it, stuffing a rope inside the spark plug holes to hold the valves in place or using constant air pressure to keep the valves seated while you remove the keepers and replace the seals, never had to do that yet.
No we didn’t have to go down that far removed the valve covers. One cylinder at a time with a tool that screwed in to the spark plug hole put air on it to hold the valve up.
I agree, the car has about 240,000 miles on it, honestly I just want to see how long it will last, I’m happy to hear from you again, I’m working on an interesting video with a Frantz filter install so be on the lookout for that.😀
@@frugallandlord6974 Cool, I like your Frantz videos. With that high of miles on a 3 cylinder, the bill from the machine shop maybe more than what you originally paid for the car, can you find another Metro with lower miles and keep the old one for parts?
@@JimmyJames351 I definitely wouldn’t rule that out, but I would more likely get a rebuilt engine to swap in or rebuild the existing engine, unless I find a metro that’s mint condition 😀

@@nancyison7481 yeah that’s one of the ways I knew they would do it without removing the heads, that’s great that it worked so good.😀
No more puffs of blue smoke when you started it. It took about 4 hours to clean everything and put it back together
But it may be worth doing to get by for awhile, it all depends on what you want out of it.
I think it’s worth it just because it’s a simple job to get a little more life out of it😀
The old rings won't hold very long if you have a fresh valve seal, both rings and valves have been in a steady state of decay for a very long time.
