that actually was not a correct statement when I was in college (1990-1994). I lived in Illinois and I could not afford the five state schools (Northern ILL, Western ILL, Eastern ILL and Southern ILL) and didn't have the grades to get into U of I. I ended up going to an out-of-state school and it cost me LESS as an out-of-state student than it did as an in-state student. Plus I only had to pay one year of out-of-state tuition before I was considered an in-state student and my costs went down even more. I literally don't understand these outrageous costs in colleges today.

Go to trade school people!!!!!! College has become less and less worth it financially to attend. Even if one is majoring in a STEM. There is nothing wrong with going to a trade school to become electricians, plumbers, auto and diesel mechanics, AC technicians, etc. These are real world in demand skills that pay well and they do not take 4-8 years of your time to get working. Many of those who do go into the trades can end up working for themselves if they are enterprising enough.

Isaac Spencer - I would have given you and your uncle 10 thumbs up if TH-cam would have let me.
Way to go uncle! For the price I paid for a brand new 2010 Toyota Yaris, your uncle went and learned a valuable marketable skill in only a fraction of the time and cost a typical college student would take to get a bachelors. He gets paid more than many professors who teach college.
I have a nephew who is just starting his sophomore year in high school. Me and his mother (my sister) are trying to steer him in the direction of going to trade school. It was my sister and her husband that initially wanted my nephew to go to college, but seeing how God awful outrageous the cost of college has gotten, they have both became quite receptive to my trade school suggestions.
I tell my sister that while many of my nephew's little friends are going to college and racking up student loan debt, he can be out in the real world after a year in trade school and earning good money. The main problem with college regardless of the price tag is that one isn't earning and producing anything while in school learning. My nephew could be making $50-70k per year before he is old enough to legally drink.

Let's say that they are able to throw $40,000/year at their debt, hypothetically. They will take 8.2 years to clear their debt if they lived in a hypothetical world where interest payments didn't exist. Let's say that their total student debt is sitting at a 5% interest rate, they will pay $16,800 this year just in interest. I think that Dave is being optimistic when he says they could clear the debt in 4-6 years.

If they put 60k on the debt, they would be living on 1,667/month?! and only denting the student loan principal 43,500/yr after subtracting interest. Make it make sense!

Master's level counselors in North Carolina can count on six-figures? Really?
Sounds more like the pay scale of doctoral level professionals. Hope she vets those numbers before banking on a jump to $100k+ per year.

I am still having to do the math for everyone that asks why I quit going to school to get my degree for marriage and family therapy. I make more doing medical billing than I would with a degree and at no point was I expected to do free labor. I can help people in other ways

Kids are expensive all things considered! It would not be a good idea for these pple to pop out kids. Dave is not honest about the costs of having kids-probably because his wife never worked anyways. These pple can't tackle 350k in student loan debt while they pay daycare or the dad stays home, etc. and they now have a 50-100k income.

We just had our first and have $24k in wife's student loans and it feels like we have just enough money to meet our obligations and pay extra on debt. Couldn't imagine having an amount that huge and less income.

Baffling how people spend so much on a degree that gets you a $50k / year job. $160k for a graphic arts degree.?!

Getting fully licensed will NOT get you $100k.....not a clinical worker. Where she is ....is where she'll stay. Being a clinical worker without a PhD is basically being on welfare

Sara Copeland .....Are you serious?. Without a license?. Wow......!!! My apologies on my earlier reply. I'm on the East coast and that is incredible. Without a license, you'd make out better being ON welfare than getting that degree with no license. I stand corrected. I'm a Doctor of Health Science specializing in Global Health Epidimiology and I work for the government and I didn't start with that. My hat's off to her and thank you for your reply. I think I'm moving. Wow

@@bryangomez1384 Okay I live in CA and have family on the East coast. It depends where you live but most states the cost of living will be significantly cheaper. 70k in CA is still more then 40k anywhere. There's cost of living calculators so go do some research. Maybe 50k some in comparison to some, but that would be the worse cost of living comparison. Cars, food, gas, going on trips, insurances, they are not much different nationwide. Only major difference usually is housing prices. But even if you compare a 200k house on east coast to a 400k one in CA. The difference in mortgage may only be around 1k a month or 12k a year more.

I completed a doctorate degree at a for-profit online university, Walden ScamU, and after charging me over $300,000 in student loan debt they refused to complete my dissertation and degree certificate despite my 4.0 GPA. This was a literal theft of my $300000 doctorate degree which would have brought me minimally $75000 to $100000 annually. The damages are insurmountable and so far no way to have my circumstances addressed. No loan forgiveness or damages paid.
