    When my mom passed away it was from liver failure so she was jaundice, she knew she was going to pass away quickly after it came as a complete surprise - and she started talking about her wishes which I was so grateful for . I was only 34 and had no support . My mom left it up to me but really didn’t want an open casket and I was planning on honoring her request and my preference - the embalming fluid ended up interacting with the jaundice and even with the funeral home bringing in someone else , they couldn’t get her to look natural- she had a green tint.
    The mortician was mortified - and I started laughing - I firmly believe my mom wanted me to feel certain in my decision and made it crystal clear that it was going to be a closed casket. ❤ 2014 and I miss her so much

      Hi, we are so very sorry to hear 😔 you have lost your mum. Lossing our parents is very hard.
      We both send you our deepest condolences 🌹 it doesn't matter how long ago the loss stays with us forever 💔
      Oh yes jaundice is an Embalmers nightmare 😬 it's definitely a very careful chemistry mix we need to do and sometimes it works and we can clear most of that yellow but lots of time the green tinge wins 😬
      Thank you for sharing your story, please take good care 💚💚

    I found this channel because i walked by the morgue in the hospital i work in, and accidentally saw 3 bodies being transferred into cold storage. I appreciate you two breaking down the process, so that’s it’s a medical process, and not something out of a horror movie. Thank you.

    My sister was 25 and her little boys were 5 and 9, died in a fire and the funeral parlor told my mom and dad they couldn't see them. It was a terrible time and we could never really say good bye.

      Hi Alphonse, what an incredible sad story, we are so sorry to hear of such a tragic loss 😔 we send our deepest condolences to all of your family. I totally understand not been able to say your last goodbye unable to view the family when it's a sudden loss. I live through a similar thing myself with the sudden loss of my mum. You think everyday that they might just walk back through the door..... because you never got to see them 😔 over the years and especially since working in the industry I have come to realise that it was probably best I didn't see the awful injuries to my mum and I now remember her as she was not what I might have witnessed in her coffin. Sometimes it is just to awful for family to see the traumatic injuries and funerals home may advice against a viewing and as much as this is not what the family want to hear it is sometimes better not to see. Of course all family have rights to see their loved ones no matter what, in cases like that all we can do is advise, guide and support them. I hope this has help a little, take care stay safe Tracy & Trish x

      Sometimes, funeral directors and embalmed advise against viewing due to extremely traumatic causes of death, and when advanced decomposition is present. Viewing the remains in those cases can result in extremely severe psychological trauma for the decedent's loved ones

    My son's best friend,he was as close as a son to me. He was in a car wreak, and later died. I am still haunted of him in the casket. They didn't do a very good job, he was turning blue. And when put my hand on his chest, I could feel bubble wrap. I lost my mind , right at the funeral home. And they had to hold me up. I will never forget that. And I when I die I see him as he was before it happened. Thats all I can hope for.

    My son committed suicide, with a gun, at the age of 25. This was 10 years ago. I did not see him after and he was cremated right away so we didnt have any viewings. Even tho my daughter tells me i wouldnt have been able to handle seeing him, i have been kicking myself for 10 years for not. Knowing now, the effort u put into reconstruction, it may have been possible to have a viewing, but maybe not. Anyway all rhis rambling to say i understand the the need to have closure , even when its not advisable. Rock and a hard place situation

      I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. To be a licensed funeral director or mortician, you need to take the college course in Toronto (4 hours away from me so I'd have to move). There are a few funeral homes in my area looking for funeral director assistants but again, if I want to be licensed, I would have to take a school course. Definitely something I would have to look into in the future.

    Even without a viewing, the human mind tends to go to a very dark place to conjure up something to fill in the blanks for what it was not allowed to see. Many years ago, a young lady I worked with was injured in a head on collision that killed the other 3 occupants in the truck with her. She died a few days later with massive head injuries. I did not visit her in the hospital or go to the funeral, because someone had described her as having a blackened, massively swollen head, and i thought by not visiting her, i could remember her the way she was before the accident. WRONG! I will forever think of her with a giantly swollen black head. After watching your videos, i now realize they probably could have made her look very presentable even though it happened some 40 years ago. My point with this story is that people's minds often fill in the blanks with images that are far worse than the actual injuries of their loved ones that they weren't allowed to see.

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, yes we totally agree, us humans are good at imaging the worst. The reason I do this job is because I experienced the same thing when my mum was killed 😞 From what I was told about her head injury I think I imagined them thousand times worse, it's just awful.
      If I can restore and reconstruct any trauma to the body I will do so the family can have that viewing, as I know how difficult it is if you don't see the person.
      Thank you for your comments take good care 🤗💚💚

    15 years ago, my cousin was found dead in his vehicle in front of his home. They think he suffered a heart attack. It was several days before his siblings found him. Due to the freezing conditions, and the thawing, the mortician advised against a viewing and recommended cremation, which they did. It is goid to know that they consider both the deceased and the family.

    If you can remember, what was the worst day of your job and what is the worst part of your job?? Also as someone said before when I go I don’t want anyone to wear suits and dress up in nice dresses or what not. I want people to come in clothes that they wear every day and clothes that they are comfortable in and if that means coming in with a bathing suit and sandals on or anything that makes it less stressful for the loved one trying to find the right clothes to wear and if they look good wearing specific kinds of clothes. They have enough to worry about with the grieving and mourning without having to worry about what to wear. I wouldn’t want anyone dressing up at all. Just whatever makes them comfortable. Every day clothes, That’s what I want

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow

      Hi Gavin, we covered this in a few of our vids - in Australia, you need to approach some local funeral directors and often start as a funeral arranger or funeral director’s assistant before you can start to get time in the mortuary. There are also some courses you can do to become a qualified embalmer, but you need to have a mentor in the industry and a mortuary to work out of along with some other requirements. Hope this answers your question, thanks for watching!

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Kym, thank you for your question. We have done many videos on all of theses subject. I just can not pin point each video sorry. A quick rundown is. If a death at home (not suspicious) the body is transferred from the home direct to the funeral homes mortuary (funeral home chosen by family members of the deceased), so say that it's the company I work for, the transfer team would go and do this (and we are 24/7) this is also the same for nursing homes, here in Queensland Australia nursing homes do not have a cold storage room for a resident that has died, so we need to transfer ASAP. Hospitals usually have a morgue, the deceased will be placed in the cold storage until a designated funeral home has been chosen to pick them up. So pick ups from hospital are always in business hours so no need to call the funeral home out in the middle of the night.
      As for preparing a body if it is a direct Cremation or burial or if it's a full service with or without a viewing I will always prepared the body as if there is to be a viewing no matter what the Final disposition is. I do know and have witnessed it myself that other funeral companies and mortician do not prep bodies no one will see, and just place them in the coffin as is. I could not sleep at night if I was to do this. That deceased is someone loved one, someone's mum, dad, sister, brother, uncle, aunty and friend, treat everyone with kindness, dignity and respect, that's my moto always 😁
      Stay safe and healthy ☺️💚

    Can I ask you? This is a tough one, I almost dont want to ask! But it's an open channel right? You have had so much experience I'd like to open the taboo door, how do you deal (personally) with the care of deceased children? I know how hard it can be from my experience, but what would you care to share with the public,, if anything, again, I'm sorry to ask x

      Hi Mark, no problem asking that question, it's sad, but we don't see it as taboo at all. It happens regularly. Happy to talk about it on a up and coming video maybe. I have touched briefly on it before. It has been quite traumatic in some cases. Take care 💚

    Is a mortician and embalmer two separate job positions or is it the morticians roll to carry out both?

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be. You will find lots of Morticians that just don't want to become an embalmer. But lots that do train to become an embalmer. Thanks for your question 😊💚

    My mother-in-law passed on July 19th, and her funeral has been delayed till August 11th (inconsiderate out of town relative causing delay) . She is supposed to have an open casket, but I don't know if that's a good idea. She's embalmed so is this still possible?

    Death is a part of life. Having to deal with it for the first time when you have lost a lovedone. Information is power so chanels such as this are,in my view, essential. It should be a celebration of a person's life.
    I attended the funeral of a family friend. He was from a large family (Irish) and worked in construction. He'd be paid at 1pm on a Friday in cash go straight to the pub go home at closing time and whatever cash was left was his wife's housekeeping money. Eugene was a character he drank in a local club had a bet on the horses and drank a half pint of guinness with a hot toddy chaser. Barstaff kept a kettle behind the bar to make Eugene his toddy. Best way to describe Eugene is to imagine a cheeky teenager in an old man's body driving a disabled electric bike like he was on a harley davidson!
    His parish priest came out of retirement to officiate at the service. He outlined events and annecdotes from Eugene's life.
    One such story Eugene received a letter from his bank manager asking him to come in for a chat.
    Eugene went saw the manager and asked "why do you want to see me?" The manager said "I have called you in because I am concerened about your overdraft"
    After a short pause Eugene replied "well there's no point is both being concerned. Thanks for your time" and walked out! The service was a rollercoaster of laughter and tears and all the better for being led by someone who cared about Eugene. I'm sure that level of care displayed by Tracy in her work means a great deal to families of those who she has cared for.

      Steve, thank you for sharing that wonderful story of a little snap shot of Eugene's life, what an amazing character and lived is life how he wanted to. The bank manager 😂 if only we could all say that to them 😉

      @@Areyoudyingtoknow He certainly was a character. His wake lasted a full week held in an upstairs room of the club he drank in booked as a private function. People who knew the family came from Ireland the USA and Canada. They had a horse drawn hearse about 400 mourners walking behind the hrarse. The landlord of a pub he drank in occasionally ran a bikers riding club. On the day of the funeral members rode their bikes and stopped traffic on side streets so the procession could travel from church to cemetery unimpeded. No one asked them to it was just their way of showing respect to a genuinely nice man 😊. Lovely man from a lovely family getting a lovely send off.

    I want to see the photos of my friends suicide because I need to. Studies have shown that it can be beneficial. Her husband said no. I believe in Texas, USA. The next of kin can direct for the photos not be released. However, he is agreeable to letting me see the autopsy report. She and I were best friends for over 40 years prior to her death
