As someone that doesn't have a console this seems perfect, but not as perfect as the way you started this review pointing out exactly what I wanted to know.
I had absolutely no use for an HDMI passthrough so I went with the A50 Gen 5 the week it launched. Best headset I've ever owned and your A50X review was one of the most important reviews I used when making my decision (along with your other high end headset reviews for comparison).
@tibitibi1407 Not on PC and theoretically not on Xbox game chat (since microphones on headsets are not recording at or above the quality of 16bit output.) But if you wanted the absolute best on console, then technically the X gives you a bump in gameplay audio on console. Plus, you'll need it for game/chat mixer use if you have a PS5.
@ I use ps5 pro and now I want to buy astro this is the first one and I don't need to change sound pc or xbox because I only have ps5!! But sound quality is important and that's why I don't know whether x or 5 gen because if the only difference is switching then 5 gen is enough but if the sound quality of effects etc is better then astro x!!???
@tibitibi1407 for PS5, you have to get the X if you want the game/chat mixer to work. There is also a small increase in sound quality in games. You won't notice a difference in sound quality in game chat or in music playback from services like TH-cam Music, Spotify or Pandora since they don't support 24 bit audio.
Just bought these and absolutely love it The earpad is great. decent sounds and mic, noise cancelling is so so but I like this lv of noise cancelling Wearing those for 3- 4hrs straight no problem and all, my ears are good and no problem with the weight Some might have discomfort with top foam but not for me Other than that, this is a great product
I love how loud and boomy A-50s have always been. I have the Nova pro wireless this generation, and while the extra battery on tap is an amazing feature, they sound a bit quieter than the A50s.
I picked these up and you convinced me to check out the Wicked Cushions. So far, I like the way that these play nice with my PC and I love that the earpads are easily replaceable. I set the EQ for Gaming as I really wanted a setting that accentuates the highs and mids. I'll be curious to see how these do on battery, but having the implementation of the base station seems to work well enough that it is not an immediate concern.
This is one of the best microphones in a wireless gaming headset on the market (technically it is mostly the wireless bandwidth that makes it sounds OK). Proper sidetone as well 🖤.
I still think the Steel Series Arctis Nova Pro wireless headset is among the top 2 headsets available, the Sonar app on the PC is very customizable and makes them even better!!
@ I don’t think it’s that bad? You can also customize the mic for better sound quality. The only headset I heard with a good mic is the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro
I would love a comparison of each Astros headset. A10 vs A20 vs A30 vs A40 vs A50. The features of each and price of each. I have some older A50s (about 4 years old now) that i love but i think if they broke i think i would go with the A30s [only thing i dont like on them is the ear cups, give me those amazing felt ear cups that most other Astros have].
Bought a50s today. Holyyy moly these are perfect. I actually loved the rig 900 pros as well. I just seen too many bad reviews. Ill buy the rigs next time once these break
The wicked cushion Amazon link directs us to the cushions that say Gen 4 only, will they still work on the A50 Gen 5's? I don't know if I missed that in the video
I only game on a PS5 but do care about the game and chat mix control option. But is that worth the extra money? I currently use a wireless mic that does not have that option but, with discord on ps5 and PlayStation private chat I am able to adjust peoples voice volumes I play with anyways. I also prefer less cords as possible. I’m stuck between A50 Gen 5 and A50X please help!
great review. i had the a50x for a hot minute but dang it became such a rats nest in the back if the base station it drove me nuts. and when i had to update it i had to unplug everything and then hook it up to my laptop.. so annoying. . so I’m now picking these up…
Thank you for posting this video, I just recently bought a Gen 5, and am liking it so far. One question I sent you previously, and I am REALLY hoping you can give me an answer on, is I also just purchased a pair of the GEN 4's, and I am wondering if there is any way to save a custom EQ setting to the GEN 4's that can carry over to console(PS5 specifically). Do settings/EQ's save to the headset? I want to use the W.C. pads, but because of the drastic sound difference, I would really hope I can make a customer EQ similar to the stock sound. Hope to hear back, and thank you for the great content. :)
One correction: The sound of the A50 Gen 5 and A50X is not the same on console. Only on the A50X you get true 24 bit audio on both consoles AND game to chat mix on PS5.
@@MaximilianWenig The A50 Gen 5 gives you 24 bit audio on PC. In game chat for console (I have Series X and Series S), there's no difference because nobody has a microphone that is putting out higher quality audio than what the headset can do at 16 bit.
@@benknapp3787 it only has 24 bit on PC, not on consoles and game to chat is only available on Xbox but not on PS5. Plus you don’t want 24 bit for your voice chat but for your game audio. Of course it doesn’t make a difference in voice chat….
@@MaximilianWenig Yeah. Since Feb I game primarily on PC. Really if you don't own a PS5 there's not much of a point in the X. PC audio is the exact same and console chat audio is the same since even the 16bit is on par or higher than anyone's microphone who you might be in the chat with.
I researched for weeks back and forth with Nova Pro Wireless and A50 Gen5/X. I was seconds away from picking up the Nova Pros about 2 or 3 different times, but ultimately went A50 Gen 5. Absolutely no regrets.
I’ve had the gen 4 Astro a50’s since it released and have replaced the base station for $99. I don’t see the gen 5’s that much better, so i think i will try out the nova pro wireless. Better materials, extra battery to charge and sound quality is very good. The a50’s look nice on a desk docked but it’s finicky to get them to charge.
@AFGixxeR88 Gen 5 gives you a MASSIVE microphone quality upgrade, 60% better battery life and you also get the upgraded graphene drivers over the Gen 4. I don't know if they made any changes to the way they slide into the base station, but I set mine down by the head band with one hand and they charge every time.
Great video. I broke my turtle beach Xo7 pro headset which Ive had since 2015. I am a big fan of Logitech products, as I use their keyboards and speakers, so this headset looks great.
I have the new A50s. and i dont all the negativity they are comfortable and sound amazing especially when you find the right EQ. and the mic is amazing i have a deep low voice so i use studio mics and i dont need one when i use this. If the price is an issue obviously dont get them but if money is not i definitely recommend
so for anyone who knows can you listen to PC and console at the same time because that was my main gripe with the nova pros and another question if they do work simultaneously how does microphone input work
Console or PC? If console throw the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro in the discussion. They absolutely are killer for FPS games. Hear everything without requiring tuning
Is there any loss in audio quality from the in this version from an A50X? I used to have Astro A40 with the wireless 5.8 MixAmp, it was fed 5.1 audio from my Xbox through optical output. Ever since Xbox Series released I haven't been completely happy with the audio quality I've gotten from USB wireless headsets. I've tried Astro A30's, high end Turtle Beaches and am currently using the Steel Series Arctis Nova 7X, but none of them match up to the audio quality I used to get from my old Astros. I'm not sure if that's because of USB bitrate vs optical, but that's the conclusion I came to when researching this topic.
the gen 5 will still use the same bitrate 16bit the 50X with HDMI can have 24Bit it a much cleaner sound. You could also just buy Audio Extractor to see if that will Fix your A40. So you could use your optical again.
@haloharry97 I'm spoiled with the completely wireless setup and simultaneous Bluetooth that I have with my steel series, but I miss the Astro comfort and sound, I'm hoping the A50X will be the answer, but I've gotta wait a while. Christmas is not the time to drop over $300 on myself.

i have this headset. My only issue so far is for xbox and ps5 you cannot control noise gate on the Logitech G Hub Mobile app. There is no option i can find to adjust this. People are telling my the background noise s bleeding through in comparison to my A50 gen 3s
I watch all your reviews I'm really interested in this headset but no reviews anywhere mention if you can play and charge at the same time that's all that's holding me back
I have one honest and important question.. i'm using astro since over 6 years now. Never had better sound/mic quality then here... but the biggest issue was and still is to this day - the docking station. Even today i struggle hard with the Astro A50 wireless to actually recharge the headphone on the docking station. Same problem with micro usb. I don't know why i have this all the time. But now.. gen 5. any improove there?
I have the same colour cushions on my HyperX Cloud Orbit S - now they are like brand new again. So Im gonna pass on these as I also have brand new Razer Blackshark. But the A40/50s are very comfy great sounding headsets, I had both.
Hi I regret buying the audeze maxwell there a joke for gaming there too too too heavy for every day usage especially if you play 6 to 8 hours every every day and there not even comfy there to bulky i haven't used my audeze maxwell for 8 months they been sitting in my closet im currently using the nova pro wireless white edition. Stay safe and happy gaming to all.
I'd say it should be more like these vs the new Corsair Virtuoso Max. With EQ, either of them are going to sound amazing...it will just depend on if you want that deeper thumpy bass or the more crisp and clear highs. Deeper bass, go with the 50mm Virtuoso Max and for cleaner highs, choose the 40mm A50 Gen 5. Then use Sonar, Voicemeeter, or Equalizer APO for your EQ rather than whatever manufacturer software the headset comes with and either choice will sound superb. Audeze Maxwell isn't as special as most people like to make them out to be. I wouldn't even put them above my Nova Pro Wireless. I haven't had a chance to hear these Graphene drivers just yet, but I'm working on getting both of the aforementioned headsets to check them out.
i read a lot on reddit about people having white noise issues with a50x. anyone have this issue still? most of the posts were from a year ago maybe they fixed it with firmware
It’s probably the mic monitoring which you’re able to hear your voice when you talk through the mic. That’s in every headset with sidetone which it’s the monitoring system
Can anyone confirm if on the A50x’s if audio/chat drops when a game transitions from 60fps to 120? I had a40’s with the HDMI adapter and on games like Destiny when playing crucible it transitions to 120fps from 60fps it would drop sound for a second. The trade off being able to adjust chat audio on the fly.
Night and day difference. I miss 24bit audio so bad. Sold my old a50s for the a30s and with tweaking they’re good, but the 24 bit was able to help me pinpoint someone in a room exactly. If you can afford the 50x, it’s definitely the one to get.
Thanks, Techne. I was waiting for this review. My only issue with wireless headsets is the constant "white noise" I hear in some of them. Had that issue with Corsair and Logitech wireless headsets. Is it present on these?
Plenty of good options... Razer Viper series, Logitech Superlight are the classic pics... the Corsair M75 Air is at like $70 new right now, which for the price, is an excellent option. But it always depends on your hand shape and how the mouse feels FOR YOU. My hand adapts very well to those mentioned, don;t know about yours.
@ps5 btw- they gave me a head ache from the bass it would wash out the audio when you turn them up to make them louder that and being on ps5 the buttons on side don’t work and when you would use Bluetooth audio at same time as well as having party and game audio it just becomes a muffled bassy mess so couldn’t justify the price over my £25 head set that just plugs into controller I have legit Proof i could go on further to why else I set them back but I would just bore you
Lmao watching u twist the headset like that gives me anxiety. I’m on my second pair of stealth 700xs in a year and a half and I really take good care of em

A40 TR is just missing wireless by comparison right?
So if I have an Xbox and Ps5 but not the pc, is better this or the A50X?
I love the A50x someone thought I was using a Shure sm7b when talking into the mic lol.
Do you have to change the noise gate through desktop I can’t find it on the app also if that is the case will it transfer over to my ps5
Hey how did you connect your Astro a50 gen 5 to ps5 ?
@ plug it in then sync to ps5
I have the same colour cushions on my HyperX Cloud Orbit S - now they are like brand new again. So Im gonna pass on these as I also have brand new Razer Blackshark. But the A40/50s are very comfy great sounding headsets, I had both.
looking to buy this, I always find the astro headsets super comfy
Logitech G Astro A50 gen 5 or turtle beach stealth pro?
I like the HDMI passthrough. but can see why another may not.
Glasses safe ?? I game for prolonged hours sometimes and wonder if it’ll give me headaches due to glasses considering all frames are different
Never had an issue with my gen 3. I asdume it will be the same with Gen 5. Picking mine up later after work
Looking to buy a new headset stuck on picking up either these or the audeze maxwells
@@jamesstevens968I was looking at the nova pros as well might have to give them a try
I'm in the same boat, my main concern is the QC/ quick longevity issues with the Maxwell's
i read a lot on reddit about people having white noise issues with a50x. anyone have this issue still? most of the posts were from a year ago maybe they fixed it with firmware
There has to be a sound difference with the HDMI input it’s 24 but audio?
Night and day difference. I miss 24bit audio so bad. Sold my old a50s for the a30s and with tweaking they’re good, but the 24 bit was able to help me pinpoint someone in a room exactly. If you can afford the 50x, it’s definitely the one to get.
I can’t hear a difference
@@Stevo19801...same I returned my A50X for these and hear zero differences on my PS5
What’s everyone’s opinion for Xbox series X? Gen 5’s or X or even Gen 4’s? Looking to buy within the new few days any feedback would be appreciated.
The Gen5 is best for Xbox. The A50X is mainly for Playstation
Shouldn’t you be reviewing the comfort of this headset with the stock ear cups?
does astro not use the command center anymore ?
Thanks, Techne. I was waiting for this review. My only issue with wireless headsets is the constant "white noise" I hear in some of them. Had that issue with Corsair and Logitech wireless headsets. Is it present on these?
what keyboard do u use man??
Is it worthy to upgrade from gen 4 to this ?
Does anyone have any good wireless mouse recommendations? mine just broke and I need a new one; I just don't know which one.
VXE Mad R, the best for the price right now
Asus rog harpe ace aim lab edition
I brought them and set them back 3 days later
curious why?
@ps5 btw- they gave me a head ache from the bass it would wash out the audio when you turn them up to make them louder that and being on ps5 the buttons on side don’t work and when you would use Bluetooth audio at same time as well as having party and game audio it just becomes a muffled bassy mess so couldn’t justify the price over my £25 head set that just plugs into controller I have legit Proof i could go on further to why else I set them back but I would just bore you
How is the sidetone on these?
actually good, much better than some other headsets I have tested recently
@@TheTechne how does it compare to the sidetone on the stealth 700 gen 3? I’m split between the two
@@Keilz Im literally here for the same question.
1 thing people hear back dear chat voice via the mic can’t fix it
i got those at 250€ today :D i think that is bargain price for those
Can you get chat mix on ps5
Lmao watching u twist the headset like that gives me anxiety. I’m on my second pair of stealth 700xs in a year and a half and I really take good care of em
I’m literally on my way to buy these right now 😂
where you get them from ?
