Gain on 5150od is about 1oClock and 0gain on Pdrive. Whenever i dial in the brightness knob of the pd i seem to get more and more hiss and noise even when palm muted. Can you give me some advice?
I'm highly entertained by the prospect that Misha ran a cab simulator and 5150 overdrive because he simply does not own an amplifier inexpensive enough to do this test.

Honestly, I've been doing the Precision Drive to EVH like in this video since I got the pedal, and it's everything I'd hoped for. Cleans up the sound so much and gives all the control I need to switch between virtually all play styles and guitar roles. The gate is also top tier - it runs better than a lot of the standalone gates to my surprise. Loving my smaller pedalboard.
Thank you Misha. I just ordered one. I am a shredder that likes to djent too. You, Ola and Keith convinced me to give it a go. The fact this does analog and digital is what sold me. I do more studio work without amps so this video helped in my decision.
The tone you can get for recording from this gear is awesome. The price gap from this pedals to other high end gear just doesn't correspond the quality gap between them. If I were to go to a studio to have my band's material recorded with the gear from this video, I'd be totally fine.
Mistic Formula it's a great tone but in a mix with bass and drums and vocals it fits better in a recording mix especially if you cut out some of the low end (although for just solo tone I love that low end punch)
Honetly, you do not need these pedals, if you are only going to play at home through a sim and an IR. You just need an interface, an EQ to simulate the attack knob and some free plugins. But for a live amp application, it makes a lot of sense to get such an updated overdive.
Heres a BIG recommendation, please come up with a Cab Sim sorta pedal which doesnt suck,Precision overdrive seems like the best solution for overdrive and with a damn noise gate its a great buy but new cab sim pedal would be great for easy plug in live applications instead of the super heavy big and clunky cab sim solutions for live. you guys gave us something great to start the chain with now give us something equally great to put it on end of the chain.
This demo was very useful and highlighted the pedal's capability well. No offense to the other demos, but I liked your knob twisting and A vs B better.

I have issues with mine. I plug into a blackstar amp a distortion pedal. With the presicion drive distortion pass 2, I can get odd distortion sounds. Bad noise sounds. Still testing the pedal, but so far, I've found that it's noisy. The gate can cut things, but the orginal signal isn't great. But I'm testing.
Loving the Precision Drive so far, myself i`m using it with no drive, just to make my already high gain tone more punchy, one thing though, sparks came flying out of it when i plugged in the power cable, guessing its not supposed to do that?
Just krank the output button on the evh (3 o'clock) and it will be like a drive effect (more dynamics) and the button boost engaged will add more brightness but this demo remains the best on youtube to show how good a distortion can be with an overdrive pedal without spending too much money... powerful and clear, Nice job!

How is the double gating going on here with the 5150 pedals on board gate plus the gate in the precision drive? I can see the LED activity on both pedals. Further - I presume that the gate inside of each is basically the same/similar circuit to that of the MXR "smart gate" or M135 type? I'm using TS-808 Reissue now and a TC Sentry which is a very good combo but I must admit the idea of gate+boost for high gain amp in one pedal is a fantastic idea. I would love to trim down to ONE pedal into the amp.
Most people are choosing to use the Precision Drive gate at a rather low setting for just noise reduction, then pairing it with a more intense external gate. However a lot of customers are also using it by itself because they're not trying to squas preamp noise as well or just get SUPER tight. Depends on how much gating you need!
My gate bately works on the precision drive i got... it comes on late-ish... u guys said its not really a gate but a curtain... i was like ok... now running two gates. Good pedal tho

I bought both pedals, going into an evh 5150iii stealth 50w with an evh cab, copied the exact pedal settings, tried on the green and blue channels with eq at 12 o'clock and STILL can't get that stupid tight rhythm chug
Could we see a quick demo of the Precision Drive through a Mesa Rectifier? I own a dual rec and I feel a boost makes or breaks the modern mode on the amp, and finding the right Ballance of low end shape and volume is always tricky on this amp.

I just got the EVH 5150 pedal and it's awesome. doesn't it have the same noisegate as the Precision drive? The EVH also has a boost built in but it's not as tight as your pedal.
substitute for the 5150 pedal to get such an epic tone? I have a pod 2.0 ill try using that, otherwise it's going to have to be a VST like the helix native... Any other ideas? Gonna test as my horizon pedal will arrive in a few days

Since it has a built in gate can the pedal be turned on and keep just the volume up and turn the rest all the way down (attack bright etc) to gate other pedals in the chain? Who's your favorite Caps player? Love OVI but mines probably Alzner he is a workhorse and consistently brings every night.
Hey Jared! It's not designed to be used as a gate only but you could hypothetically use the controls to flatten out the signal a little bit. Misha will have to tell you his favorites Caps player!

I use bias amps, mainly a triple rec mesa sim or evh 5150. How well do you think that this pedal will work with that simple setup without having an extra drive pedal such as the evh 5150?
+theone1 The 5150OD, in this setup, is acting like an amp simulator, and not as an overdrive. Since you already use Bias for amp simulation, you don't need a pedal like the 5150OD. Hope this answers your question!

I've purchased this pedal already (anxiously awaiting) would I get the desired effect, similar to the video, with just an orange micro terror or would you suggest getting the evh pedal too? I really like this tone. I do have an old ds-1 that I've had forever.
The micro terror is pretty thick so you'd stand a decent chance at evening that out with the PD and getting a pretty good tone as long as you have a good cab (not the 1x8 they sell it with).

Question; I am kinda a gear noob. So, If I am using this as a boost, does it transition well into a clean signal? That is, can I switch directly to my clean channel or would I have to turn this off to have a clean tone?
Depends on how you set the pedal and your clean channel! You'd probably want to dial in your clean tone extra fat since you'll have the pedal on pretty bright settings in front of a distortion tone.

I've admittedly done this with a Metal Zone and a cab simulator... it actually didn't sound that bad. Not great, but not bad.

If youre a student, soundtoys might have a cheaper reverb kit than the echorec. That drive sounds dam good tho.

It is not the same gate. Ours was tweaked over 6 revisions to be tighter for modern metal.

why use a high gain overdrive and not a distorton ?
To boost the front end of the preamp and get a clearer and more natural tone in combination with distortion.
Are you plugging the guitar->pedals->interface?
Or is there an amp in between the pedals and interface?
i wonder if you could get a similar tone from the protone overdrive
It wouldn't be as tight because this has a gate built-in.
But apart from that. Ive got the Deadhorse Deluxe (Also with the attack switch) and im useing a ISP Decimator afterwards. What would be my benefit with the Horizon Drive?
I've purchased this pedal already (anxiously awaiting) would I get the desired effect, similar to the video, with just an orange micro terror or would you suggest getting the evh pedal too? I really like this tone. I do have an old ds-1 that I've had forever.
The micro terror is pretty thick so you'd stand a decent chance at evening that out with the PD and getting a pretty good tone as long as you have a good cab (not the 1x8 they sell it with).
Horizon Devices Thanks for the reply. Yeah I just ordered a PPC 212 and that head. I've been playing through an old carvin and a Korg toneworks, so I wanna experiment with some real pedals and effects.
Question; I am kinda a gear noob. So, If I am using this as a boost, does it transition well into a clean signal? That is, can I switch directly to my clean channel or would I have to turn this off to have a clean tone?
Depends on how you set the pedal and your clean channel! You'd probably want to dial in your clean tone extra fat since you'll have the pedal on pretty bright settings in front of a distortion tone.
