  • Misha walks through the Apex Preamp to finally answer the question of "Do I need the Precision Drive or the Apex?"
    horizondevices...
    The Apex Preamp pedal is a simple, all-in-one solution for metal guitarists looking for modern metal tone live and in the studio. Use it to instantly transform clean tones into a high gain monster, add a new flavor to your existing tone, or as an all-in-one solution for recording.

    Thanks misha! Was waiting for the 8 string! I just got brand new juggernauts in my agile 8 string to replace my blackouts. Love it! But I like the tone better with headphones with my hd500x vs using my joyo zombie (dual rec and engl metal master) with my 1x12 or 4x12. Boosting with the precision drive.

    Misha, you have probably answered this question multiple times.
    I already have the Apex Pre-Amp. Is there additional benefit to having the Pre-Amp and Horizon O.D in a chain before the Amp?

    • @michaelsnydermusic
      @michaelsnydermusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess is no, unless you only have a clean amp. The Horizon drive is really meant for an overdriven amp with the drive on the pedal at 0. The pedal tightens the sound and uses the amp’s existing drive. Plus it has the gate. The Preamp however, adds drive to your amp as well as tightens your sound and adds the same gate. So if you have the preamp then adding the Horizon drive won’t do much.

      Yes. Think of it as adding a Tube Screamer as a boost.

    Pretty cool petal. I like my amp and cab sim with the PD pedal though so unless I ever need an "amp in a box' type thing, probably a pass from me.

      I use the pd into the apex with the tight switch off which gives a better chunky tone in my opinion

    Still don't get it. What Apex Preamp does?

    • @dakotaperry6476
      @dakotaperry6476 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Basically its an “amp in a box” type pedal. You can run your guitar into this and into a recording interface and load up a cab sim and be ready to record. Or you can run it through the fx loop return of a real amp and bypass the amps preamp and use the preamp that is built into the pedal. It allows a lot of versatility, in your setup. Misha did a video where he ran it through a Fender, which has one of the best clean channels ever, and got a beautiful metal tone. It also has the Precision Drive built in as well. Hope this makes sense.

      It’s better to use this in front of the amp on the clean channel I’ve heard that it didn’t sound too good in the loop

      @@FreddieOrtega-cr33p3rofficial isn't it meant for the fx loop? Its a preamp, the output should be line level, meant for going directly into a power amp.

      @@dakotaperry6476 What do you mean by "It also has the Precision Drive built in as well." Is it literally the Precision Drive built it into the Apex, or just very similar features? I've had the Apex for a while but recently bought the PD to use separately for other amps. Did I just totally waste my money doing this?

    • @dakotaperry6476
      @dakotaperry6476 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamesbradford1153 No definitely not a waste. The Apex “Tight” switch is like a built in Precision Drive to a certain extent. It will give you the tight “djenty” sound but you can’t fiddle with anything, where as with the Precision Drive you have the knobs to really customize the sound you want. Both do the job well but the actual Precision Drive can do a lot more if you were to run it and the Apex at the same time. I guess I should have said the Apex has a boost similar to the Precision Drive built into it lol my bad.
