      Kit guitars off the shelf aren't great, personally I'd go to somewhere like Guitarbuild for the body and neck, followed by using eBay for parts and finishing. If the guys choose to do this, I hope they'd do the same.

      He has a video on this on his own channel so it'd end up very similar to his anyway.
      It does fit his playing quite a bit more and you can tell when you compare the two videos, not that this is a horrendous by any stretch.

    The gain stage sounds bad to me, it doesn't add gain, it adds a layer of "crushing paper".

      i think its bc for the lower gain sound they just turned it down on the guitar instead of the amp

    • @Escapism7133
      @Escapism7133 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      If they're using the Hughes & Kettner then the pedal's gain stage probably sounds poor because that amp is not pedal friendly towards overdrive/distortion pedals.

    • @intrsoul
      @intrsoul 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Mmm. I do love me some CRUSHED PAPER on top of an otherwise enjoyable tube amp sound. Take my money.

  • @viperman300

    I bought the pedal back in March and finally received it this summer. In the initial testing stages I was livid thinking that the pedal didn’t give me enough gain until I realized it was to be put in front of an already full gain tone. That’s when I discovered it’s true talent and I haven’t plugged into a single amp since without having the precision drive in front. I love the ability it has to mildly drive a clean tone also. The saturation it gives to an already fantastic tube amp is just perfection and you can tell Misha put quite a lot of work into this pedal. Well done and great review!

  • @sunnaki
    @sunnaki 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    For those saying the gain stage on this pedal sounds like ass, these two aren't neccesarily using it for it's intended purpose.
    With a typical overdrive or distortion pedal (take the Golden Plexi or MXR 5150 for example) the goal would be to distort the signal before it ever hits the amp, so if the amp you're using doesn't have the ability to pour on a fuck-ton of distortion, the job is done for it essentially.
    With this pedal, it's sort of designed to be used in front of an already high-gain amp so it can shape the distortion rather than create and amplify it. I'm not sure what model of amp Misha uses on the Axe, but this thing can turn Rectifiers into completely different sounding amps. Tone up, gain almost all the way up, roll back the prescence and gain on the amp, and it's an otherworldly sound.
    Cheers from U.S

    The built-in noise gate is why I initially went with Amptweaker, as mahoosive as that is. If I replaced that Amptweaker with this, it leaves the question of what do I put in the free space such a trade would create.

    +Rob Chapman hey man! love your videos, been following for a some years now! i'm doing the "djent thing" when muting the staccato notes, you release with your left hand and slap it back on the string softly to mute it instantly, that way you don't get the unpleasent ringing noise that follows =) also a fretwrap might help! stay awesome, cheers!

  • @ICKY427
    @ICKY427 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    lol i did sort of the same thing when i started playing and had no idea what i was doing. i took a metal-zone, turned the gain all the way down, and used it only to tighten the overdrive i already had, not to add any gain. it was great at getting rid of all the muddieness of the fender hot rod deluxe i tried to play metal on. made the low chugs sound much nicer. i didnt do it for long though because i figured it was the wrong way of going about getting a good metal tone, but lo and behold, i was ahead of the curve!

    Most gear isn't really about sound nowadays, it's more about feel. You can't really tell what a pedal will do for you unless you try it out yourself. It's all in the attack and response.

    15:13 - That's because every time you do that kind of playing, you're like a "newcomer" at it.
    I started out playing with these nylon Dunlop picks, just because that's what was lying around, but because I immediately started out with Rock and Metal, I just ruined them. - BUT, I couldn't stand anything sturdier like a Tortex because I liked how the flimsy picks would move "through" the strings more easier. - However, then I started developing a sturdier picking-hand and slowly moved to .60, .73, .88, .1.0 and eventually Ultex 1.14 picks. - Next I'm going to try a 1.5mm composite pick. And also the Primetones, actually. Been wanting to for ages, but most stores don't have them or they're really expensive for some reason.
    And the reason you'd want a sturdier pick is because you don't want the tip of it to "lag behind". If it bends too much it won't be where you're "aiming" it for the fast precision picking. There's less resistance, but that's what makes you think it's nicer to play, until you start noticing it's too floppy to be precise.

    it is more subtle of an effect because you already use a quite tight of an amp to begin with (kraken), also with a fairly high gain of a sound. If you want to hear a more dramatic effect, get an amp like a mesa rectifier, 5150 or something similar, which are really benefitting from this kind of pedal. Took you several videos to understand this.
