This truce wasn't authorized by the military command on either side in fact it was a spontaneous act where the German soldiers took the initiative. After the truce many soldiers on both sides refused to go back fighting which is very understandable however it was far from popular among the leaders. Some soldiers were even executed for not obeying orders.

Du machst einen vollkommenen, perfekten Anfängerfehler.
Das machen viele andere aber auch, nämlich:
- Das Lied nicht bis zur letzten Sekunde anhören !!!
Da gehen einem tolle Momente oder wichtige Details verloren.
