In reference to Alberts unfair arrest, this unfortunately occurred during the Second Battle of the Ainse which unfortunately due to the french defeat resulted in numerous mutinies occurring and because of this a lot of innocent men were sentenced to firing squad for as small an offense of falling asleep on duty or refusing to fight, it was actually Field Marshall Petain who replaced Nivelle that for the most part put an end to these policies, instead preferring to offering extended leaves and put hold on grand offensives, reasoning that it was better to rebuild moral than to lose more men trying to push the german lines and also that rescue took over 10 hours for him to complete
back then you where not allowed to vote, marry, open a bank account... without parental Approval until 21 years old unless you had a court or parish council emancipate you (mostly orphans and similar), so running away was a very serious decision.
