@@Sean_Farmer Cup 2 never existed back in 2010. Back then, it was pushed as a street car, so it didn't even come with the Cup 2's predecessor the Cup. It came with Pilot Sport 2, which was the predecessor to the Super Sport, which was the predecessor to the 4S. If the 997.2 GT3 came with Cup 2, it would have had a much faster Ring time from the factory, probably in the mid to low 7:20s. The 997.2 RS came with the Cup (1) tires and did it in 7:33.

997.2 is probably my favourite gt3 porsche of all, perfect balance between good looking + driver focus

What a fantastic car those 997 GT3's and RS's were. Beautiful steering and that amazing Metzger Engine. You certainly kept that blue 991 GT3 on its toes
Unlike the german word for butcher (Metzger), his name was Hans Mezger, without the 't'

Great video Misha, always a pleasure! (Seriously, after a long day this was the break my brain needed, exhaust notes and car talk.)
These really felt like nice easy laps with great handling and an amazing soundtrack.
Once did a track day on Zandvoort with a couple of laps in a 997, and felt extremely quickly familiar with the car. Absolute dream to drive.
What you mentioned at the second lap is really a thing which I wondered all the time - you just step in a car and can adjust your driving style to the car extremely fast. I think I would have problems with that... so big respect.
And to the car: just such a dream.
I grew up with the 997 as the recent Porsche model, I think that's the reason why I'm absolutely in love with them. Just beautiful cars made for drivers.
Perhaps worth mentioning, the exhaust valves open at around 3000rpm in ‘Sport’ and at 5000rpm in with Sport mode off. In other words, peak power figures were recorded with exhaust valves definitely open. If this car’s valves were always closed, then it probably wasn’t producing the quoted factory power and torque figures during these laps…and yet, still sensational!

My first 911. Amazing cars. Since had a 2019 C4 GTS and a '17 Turbo S but hankering after another GT3
A 997.1 GT3 Club Sport might just be the perfect 1 car garage. There's better cars out there, faster, more comfortable...whatever. But it really ticks all boxes. Not too flashy. Seriously fast in the real world without losing your license to have fun, stunning looks. Great noise.
There's cars in the same budget I'd have over it but if we're strictly ticking boxes...yeah.
You need a GT3 Misha!
Money no object, I'd go for a 997.2 GT3 RS, but they are more than double the price of my 997.1 Gt3 and, to be honest, it is more than enough car for me. A real joy to drive.
@@diggagt3574 Each to their own of course, and I may be in the minority here but I always found the .1 997 RS a better looking car than the .2. Both utterly wonderful of course!
I have owned a 996 Turbo S for over 12 years…
For my 50th I added a 997.1 GT3….which I am loving more and more each day….
Put 250ks on it today in mixed mostly good weather, what fun.
The experience of the engine revs climbing is something else…. Maybe the sound and the vibrations… I don’t know but it makes you laugh like a kid as the revs build.
So glad I took the plunge into a Gt3.👍

Great vlog Misha. I agree that your driving of this car was worth a second lap. I may have been greedy and welcomed more because it handled so good for a stock car, and it proved that a 12yr old Porsche with 66k+ kms can be as much fun to drive than a current model. Congrats to the owner and maybe you will catch up again for more enjoyable laps on the Nodshleife😄👍

997.2 GT3 is incredibly rare. they did not build many of those. beautiful car and honestly still really fast

21:18 I had a crap car and it did evoke quite a lot of emotion, it was a Renault 5 and I did swear at it a lot.

I have been contemplating for years to buy one. Currently own an exige 350 and when I have tested 997, I am always surprised by two facts.
1. Insane long first and second gear. Too long to have fun on the road.
2. All the power is up in the top end so you need to wring its neck. Which combined with the long gears is not always feasible. Especially on the road. Whilst a supercharged engine like the lotus has plenty of low end torque.
However, the sounds between 7000-9000 rpm is something I have not heard in other cars except Italian exotics.
Price of 997.2 is going to 110-120k for cars with less than 50.000km.
That is also a market with many other cars on offer, much faster cars also given the 911 is not that light and “only” has 435hp in the gen2.
Misha what is your opinion?

Is it my idea or isn't Misha on it with the gt3? He seems to be exercising a lot of caution, perhaps the car doesn't inspire confidence..
Either way, no matter how "great" the gt3 is for some, I personally couldn't live with such long ratios. That 3rd gear is taking forever to load
I dont understand the way porsche names it models, you have a 718 cayman and a 911 but under the 911 there is like so many different models
911 is chassis type and other models are engine types.
Every model are worth it

Not really substantially different car the RS... 15hp more, slightly lighter, more agressive rear wing and slightly more track-focused suspension. And shorter gearing, that'll probably be welcome as Porsche gearing is far from short :D

@@manualmedicinebjornhermans3542 Hah definitely not, but I read a lot of contemporary reviews (on the road and on the track) as the 997 RS is one of my favourite cars ever, so I just tell what I know :) Back to back comparison is always best, that's for sure ;)

@@Fabsan84I wonder for fast road use is the standard 997.1 gt3 the sweet spot when you consider price, the rs so much more expensive and people seem worried to put Ks on them.

It's more GT, less raw than 996 is.
Are these Mk2 more reliable than the 997 GT3 Mk1? I've heard not the best things about 997 GT3s but if anyone has more insights in this please comment...
