Movie Summary:
After her father unexpectedly dies, young Ella (Lily James) finds herself at the mercy of her cruel stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and stepsisters, who reduce her to scullery maid. Despite her circumstances, she refuses to despair. An invitation to a palace ball gives Ella hope that she might reunite with the dashing stranger (Richard Madden) she met in the woods, but her stepmother prevents her from going. Help arrives in the form of a kindly beggar woman who has a magic touch for ordinary things.

The glass slippers never changed back into anything because it was the only thing that was created out of nothing. Everything else transformed from something else. But the glass slippers were created. And if you want a very interesting Lily James movie, I would highly recommend Pride And Prejudice And Zombies. They combined the storyline from the classic Pride And Prejudice… But they added in zombies flawlessly! It was surprisingly good! 💙💙💙

@@monio.9444 It’s strangely enjoyable. One thing I didn’t mention is the fact that all the women are experts in martial arts! They have to be in order to fight the zombies with swords and daggers. Let me know what you think! I hope you enjoy it, too!
I was about to comment about this😆 so I'd like to add more. the fairy godmother said to remove her shoes then made the glass slipper
Then she particullary said "at the last stroke of midnight the spell will be broken and *all will return as it once before* "
and since the GLASS SLIPPER IS MAGIC it refused to fit the any other person than ella so thus the glass slipper changes it size so it will not fit to any person

My favourite Cinderella film. This one holds a very special bond as it was my late granny's favourite Cinderella movie and she died the nite I was watching this film while she was staying at the nursing home.
I’m so sorry about your grandmother. I too know loss a little too well I lost my mom at 8, literally just lost my aunt a week ago and my grandmother is on her last days right now at hospital as we speak😓

Definitely the best live-action Disney remake. I hope Snow White follows this model: expand the prince's role and keep the focus on the main character rather than the sidekicks/supporting characters.

It wasn't a royal ball, but for me it felt like one. It was the military ball where at that time I was dating my husband to be. I was wearing a soft lavender gown and we talked and talked all through the night...It is one of our fondest memories, besides our wedding ceremony.

Her slippers were pre-existing just like the other animals and objects that the fairy godmother changed with magic. So it doesn't make sense how the shoes stayed glass.

That means it was purely made by magic, and has no original state to return to
Loved the quote at the end "She continued to see the world not as it was, but as it could be." I think it's important because her step mother was the opposite, she was plagued by the bad things that happened to her and she let those things make her bitter. But Ella forgave and hoped that her world would be a mirroring of her own behaviour. She knew that what you put into the world is what gets reflected back at you on way or another. I love how there's always so much occult wisdom these old fairytales (and also in Harry Potter btw, a lot of alchemy and occult meaning in that one), and Disney sure knows how to not skip the key parts.
Ella isn't literally royalty (at least not yet). But to her and her family she was. Their house was their "kingdom." But really her father was a well to do merchant.
I remember when this first came out and I went to go see it with my mum the day it came out in theaters. I also remember remember pretending to be Cinderella after seeing this. And I loved it and I still to this day love it. I love Disney live action movies. Love the video!
This film is the best Cinderella for me and the best live action remake out there...i just love everything about this film the casting, the costumes, lily james and richard madden's chemistry is breathtaking! Dude the ballroom scene,the dance and that iconic blue gown is pure magic! Goosebumps.

Ever after with Drew Barrymore will forever be the best liveaction cinderella and arguebly the best Cinderella period. I highly, HIGHLY recommend that movie. Would love to see a reaction.
I love EA, though I was sad that they omitted the fantasy elements.
_Ever After_ does not capture the spirit of Cinderella nearly as well as this movie does.

Certainly not courage and kindness, as it's replaced by some feminist and swordfighting BS that has nothing to do with anything. Drew Barrymore is no fucking Cinderella! She's neither cinder nor Ella to begin with anyway.

I love Lily James! I know her from Downton Abbey, Mamma Mia 2 (highly recommend, she KILLS it), and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (beautiful slice-of-life romance, also highly recommend).

Cinderella is by *far* the best live action remake. What helps is that it isn’t limited and confined to an extremely specific musical that defines it.
The same could be said for Maleficent, however, it’s a complete retelling from the view of the villain, who is rewritten to be the protagonist. While I must give it credit for the unique take, I’m a hardcore Sleeping Beauty girl and I prefer the original story of the classic.
AND, I know I’m super late on this reaction, but if you haven’t watched Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, you *have* to!

It’s always midnight because it’s all based on this story, Cinderella, it’s where it came from. Ella Enchanted is one of MANY adaptations. This one I absolutely love, but I agree, Ever After wins. I’d love to see a reaction!
You Guys should watch Ever After (1998) its another Cinderella retelling and is just absolutely brilliant. It stars Drew Barrymore.

This is the only great Disney remake imo. Everyone keeps on hating on the ones after this, but no one despises this one and for good reason. It’s simply breathtaking.
This is my fave Cinderella story next to Nickelodeon's 'RAGS' and 'After the Ball'.
Balls exist all over. Usually holidays and often series like the Brigertons, Lord of the Rings and even Harry Potter. Usually they are at Christmas, New Year’s and Halloween masquerade balls.

Ella enchanted is a Cinderella Movie in a way. It's a little more than that, but I don't want to give too much away, Haha. It's a good watch. As far as balls go I am sure there are theme or costume balls or similar things hosted here and there. I don't know how common it is especially from area to area. But, I'm sure you should be able to find something somewhere haha.

Also funnily enough, I think Cinderella is the only one who had a midnight curfew. Ariel’s deadline was sundown. So I’d say the Shrek joke of it’s always midnight, is just wow Cindy’s. Story took off lol
The Rogers and Hammerstein live action with Brandi will forever be my favorite Cinderella, (the cast, the production design, sets and costumes) but the costumes in this might take the win overall. Especially Cate Blanchett’s, Ella’s ballgown and weirdly the stepsisters undergarments (the corsets, and geodesic hoop skirts, so weird but so much fun)
I fully suggest watching the Brandi version (especially for the musical numbers), it’s fabulous.
This is the best live action version movie Disney has ever done. As for Cinderella movies, Ever After with Drew Barrymore in it is the best.

Everything the fairy godmother made was on something that already existed, the pumpkin, the animals, the dress, the shoes were the only new thing she actually created, this is why they didn't fade with the magic

Also I’ve seen you quote princess as “princess” a couple of times regarding Ella. She’s not born a princess. She was born into either nobility or a rich merchant family in all versions. So she had the education, just not the title and upbringing.

I like this one much better than the original, bc the prince have… personality omg(sarcasm) what is up with this movie not on Disney+. We always get so much Cinderella stories, what about like a Snow White story or a Rapunzel story or beauty and the beast, sleeping beauty.
Oh dear. "Ella Enchanted any connection?" Can of worms. Yes, there's a connection. Gail Carson Levine took the story of Cinderella, that has been told hundreds of times to the point that it's cliche, and she made it new. Her book Ella Enchanted is so well done. It's been one of my favorite books for over two decades. And then Miramax took this masterpiece and turned it into the worst book adaptation I have EVER seen. I'm not saying it was a bad movie in its own right. I'm sure thousands of people enjoyed it. But no one who loved the book could feel anything but angry about that travesty of a movie.

This movie irritated me so much. I feel like almost everything was off, especially the pacing, the acting, dialogue, visual effects, costume design, humor, etc. and it’s crazy how Cinderella in the 1950 version is more proactive
I didn't like the wings the fairy godmother had. I would have preferred cgi wings or no wings at all.
