My word… the iPhone 13 Pro Max is flexing like crazy when it comes to battery life. Since owning this thing I’ve never had to worry about charging it with my usage habits (& I’m a heavy user)!
I'm a pixel 4xl user and it's notorious for bad battery life but seeing the iPhone 13 pro max blew my mind how good battery life is. I waited for the pixel 6 pro enthusiastically after hearing a massive 5000mah cell which I couldn't believe Google finally decided not to skimp on hardware. Unfortunately the efficiency with a first generation processor isn't there just yet. So I held off on upgrading. I'll keep charging my 4XL 2-3 times a day until next year 😂
@@supaahflyy whoa, you have to charge several times a day? Even with my “older” iPhone 12 Pro Max I was getting decent Battery Life, only having to charge maybe twice a day. But with this iPhone 13 Pro Max, I have to try very hard to drain the battery. I maybe was able to get close on a constant 12 hour usage day when I got it down to 11% from 100%. But yeah, I guess the other guys will have to work on their SOC designs for better efficiency. It’s not enough to make these things fast, but the phones also have to sip power while being fast.
it's also flexing it's price tag like crazy. my wife got the 13 pro max which is almost the double the price of my Pixel 6. The Battery performance seems similar on both phones. Even though I'm more heavy user than her, we get about 55-60% at the end of the day. plus she has the brightness way down. Pixel 6 is definitely the bang for your buck phone 2021.
@@desirewithinus So your wife is draining the battery of the 13 pro max faster than you on your pixel 6 and you aare a heavier user than her? Yeah something is a bit off with your comment considering 13 pro max can get easily 70 to 100% longer battery life than pixel 6 especially if use less
I love your standby battery drain test idea because reviewers forget that standby time is also very important as our phones spend most of their time is standby anyways
Darius, just wanna say nice job on comparing it to last year's model from the same company. Most comparisons just forget about last year's device from the same brand and just compare it against the new ones. It's good to see if a device from the same brand has progressed or not
These videos are becoming more and more interesting as the different phones' part vary more and more. Next to the 13 Pro Max all others looks so much inferior, even though 1 year ago that battery life would have been highly appreciated. 😅
I have both a Pixel and a iPhone and well this comparison is a bit unfair. The AOD were left on, on the 6 and 6 pro which will drain the battery faster on standby. The P6 and P6Pro are limited to 22W charging, not the advertised 30W plus all the pixels have adaptive charging. Finally the Pixels have adaptive battery which give them better battery life in time. So yes the iPhone *won* per say but the Pixels are not as bad as presented.
Seems like you forgot to turn the AOD off for the new Pixels during standby whilst other devices either didn’t have AOD (iPhone) or was turned off. This could result in big differences in standby.
It is supposed to be running at 10Hz so battery consumption should be minimal. Not sure there is an option for the AOD to turn off at night but I think Samsung has that?
There's that and the fact he either factory reset both or they are brand new phones so the adaptive battery hasn't kicked in. It has a major impact on standby time. Granted the battery could definitely be better
@@Xenaman You are probably right as the Pixel 6 line used cheaper and older components so probably not using LTPO 2.0. That is why Apple will have AOD on iPhone 14 Pro as they can use 1Hz and battery life will be much less.
Yeah I got the 13 pro max. I’m a extreme heavy user. After using it over 10 hours all day at work and coming home at night it still has 40 to 50 percent left. I literally never have to worry about my phone being dead when I charge it over night. So nice when I got events at night and want to record video and take photos or talk to buddies. Legit best phone I’ve ever had.
Wow even though the battery wasn't the best in the pixel 6 series, it seemed unfair that the always on displays were on for standby test out of all the other devices. The always on display definitely can drain alot of battery. Paying attention to the always on display in these tests are important.
Tbh as a P6P owner, standby drain is kind of an issue at more than 1%/h in my experience. But yeah, with Always On Display enabled it ain't a fair comparison.
I've noticed that these phones have no SIM cards inside. A battery test with SIM cards would be much more close to real life usage since having SIMs drains the battery quicker
@@superiortoall22 if you are talking about mobile data then yes it makes a difference. But it also drains the battery a little bit by leaving a sim card in a phone

I bought a pixel 6 pro. First 2 to 3 weeks. Battery was crap. But as you use it and the adaptive batter thing it has does its thing I've noticed it lasting longer and longer. Now about 2 months in I easily get a full day from it on some pretty decent usage.
Something seriously wrong with those Pixel 6 series, biggest giveaway was the 11% drop on standby? wtf? Last week I used P6P only for 1hour and left it on standby for the whole day. That is 23h. It still had 84% battery left....
Very detailed video! 13 pro max caught my attention in every test, its incredible! But I will be more interested how many SOT it will have after 1, or 2 years
These test are interesting. Doesn't make sense due to the prices. Also why leave AOD on for the pixels? Did you trun off adaptive charging for pixels? Very flawed.
Taking mine back... Pixel hype is real.... But lots of let downs.... Didn't think the face unlock would bother me, it does. Finger print sucks with glass protector. Compared to my 7t I'm thinking of giving OPO 9 a shot. My one plus is hanging here for a solid 2 years
apple software optimization is always top tier. a lot of time its not always the battery size, but how well the software is optimized to sip juice rather than chugging.
Yep, this is what happens when you've been working with an in-house chip and OS, wonderful things can happen. Glad Google have jumped on the boat now as well, hopefully we'll see similar results in the next coming years!
I dont know why standard pixel 6 size is almost the same as iphone 13 pro max. I think pixel could reduce the height and increase some width for better video playback. Slim the bezels even more, add a 120hz and increase battery and it will sell like hotcakes everywhere
Lets all be real here, the iPhone 13 Pro Max has amazing battery but almost nobody *(Except if you are someone who does work with their phone all day long)* of is on their phone for over 8 hours in a day. This video is still very good and I appreciate it none the less. Great video quality and production on your part!
I just got a pixel 6pro... 1:42 on a 30w brick I picked up from Amazon. Ironic, same time for the wireless charging pad I also picked up. I believe that was Max at 15w. Adaptive battery charging make a huge difference in charging speeds on the pixel pro
iPhone has always been crazy efficient. But they insisted on providing the bare minimum battery capacity. Now they finally gave a chunky battery with crazy efficiency
Just got the pixel 6 luckily not the 5 or 6 pro. Currently been using 4a5g. I don't like how apps are on iPhone and I'm gonna stick with android for sure
I got a OnePlus 9 pro, it's still enough to last through a day, and it only takes 10 mins on the charger even if its a tad low when I get home from work
What's important for a mobile phone for me is that you can use it the whole day without worrying about battery life. At the end of the day, at home, that's the time I charge it, and not charge it in the middle of the day. Fast charging is good, but not for me. It charges your phone fast, but it deteriorates your battery also faster. Not good if you keep your phone like 3 to 4 years.
Not really because most of them split the battery in half. So if the phone has 60W charging both battery cells charge at 30W each. That means its as harmful as a device which only has one big battery with 30W charging
The reason the pixel during standby lost a lot of battery is cuz they had always on display on but on s21 it wasn't but it's true P6 does lose battery wile idle
The 13 Pro Max is truly impressive. Even if the majority of the time it is between 10 - 90 hertz and that its screen is between Qwhd and FHD. This is not a criticism, it's just that on this point I really agree with Apple for once, the difference between 120 hertz / Qwhd and 90 hertz and between Qwhd - FHD is almost imperceptible to 95% of people. On the other hand, the difference in energy consumption is very visible. Huawei understood this very well and the Mate 40 Pro and P50 Pro are the only high-end smartphones that match the autonomy of the 13 Pro Max.
If you are right, although comparing the battery of the iPhone 13 pro max and the Huawei p50 pro, it is still better that of the iPhone but the difference is not much
have you used the pixel phones prior to this test? I've heard the software on pixel phones learn from your behavior over X amount of time and adjusts accordingly. Could be the reason why it performed so poorly as this isn't an accurate depiction of what a regular day of use looks like.
That learning is about finding out which apps you use most to close down unused background apps. It has more to do with stanbdy times. I don't think it makes a big difference in a test where an app is constantly on.
@@C3lloman right I get that this test is just to measure raw battery life but the software on the pixel really plays a part in it. I would bet we would see different results if we did a real world test. It may not beat the iPhone but it would probably be closer.
In my opinion pixel 6 is the best phone here for amount of money paid, sure iphone has the best battery and (depends on who you ask) better camera, but then again, the pro max costs what. $1100? Compared to a $600 phone that's insane the pixel 6 could be compared to it
People fail to understand that Pixel has AI built-in that optimizes battery and charging based on patterns of use. The battery gets better as you use the Pixel for a few weeks. Many of these reviewers are just taking it out of the box and immediately doing battery life tests. It's also being compared to phones that are double the price. The vast majority of Pixel users are getting 8 hours of SOT from everyday use which includes being connected to a cell network, unlike many battery tests on TH-cam which only consider ideal conditions with no sim. Pixel 6 is absolutely an all-day phone and actually outperforms that normal iPhone 13 in many battery tests on TH-cam.
Good stuff, I think the phones here all had a nice balance in their offerings. I think over long term use I would prefer a device with longer battery over one that charges faster.
It's give and take. I used Pixels for years and switched to the S21 Ultra (arguably the best smartphone when it came out). Nothing made me miss Pixels more than owning the S21 Ultra. Things just work better on the Pixels. It's small things, but they add up. I noticed so many tiny annoyances that I can never recall experiencing on Pixel devices.
That was my experience too going from Pixel to Samsung (Nexus 6P to Samsung Edge S7) and last year going from the P4XL to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The quality of life features that Google has implemented is invaluable and truly shows what direction technology devices should move towards.
I was looking to buy a pixel 6 pro. But considering those results i will wait for the new pixel 7, hoping that one can improve both battery life and charging speed. Thanks
Here is my thought for the time that it takes for the pixel 6 pro and 6 to drain the battery to zero it does take a long time to charge. If you are going to put slow charging then make the phone last as long as possible otherwise it defeats the purpose. I have a iPhone 13 pro and it lasts me more than 14 hours and that is with me playing games and watching TH-cam and ticktock’s
The battery life of iPhone 13 pro max is really impressive. I had a vacation in my Grandma's house I stayed there for 3 days. I left my charger at home. None of my cousin uses iPhone so I don't have a charger. I arrived with 65% Battery. I'm using my phone average of 5 hours a day (Social media, TH-cam and Camera) when its time to go home. It still has 18%Battery left!!!!!! I was to impress cause I didn't put the phone off for 3 days and using it 5 hours a day(estimate).
Huawei P50 Pro with 4360 MaH battery sell is the best battery on any Android phone yet and it can charge 66W fast charging. iPhone 13 Pro Max and Huawei P50 Pro were the closest with battery draining test I have watched on "TheTechNick" channel one of best comparison channel.
I don’t care too much about charging speed. But I care a lot about drainage. My LG v60 and Samsung S21u (snapdragon 888) were solid but my iPhone 13 pro is a real champ. Still, sometimes I miss the Samsung and the LG v60 was in many ways my favorite smartphone ever.
@Sebbi see if you compare with other flagship then the price will be double so I think at this price point OnePlus 9 Pro is a good choice 1. High Quality amoled display 2. Great gaming Performance 3. Camera far better than last year 8 series
@@explorerarghya ummm the 9 pro was 1100 after everything was said and done when I bought it... What do you mean at this price point lol. That's as much as other flagships
How did you set all the displays to the same NIT level? I know the adjustment slider varies from all phones. 50% is not going to measure the same NIT levels across all devices.
Great video. For my opinion, a really fast charge is useless because if you check after 30 minutes charging, all phone are charge at almost 45 or 50%. It's enough to have a full battery life at normal using. If you're a power user verry fast charge could be a good option. But the majority of the people doesn't use their phone like we can see in this video. So the normal charging is better for you and you're battery.
Extreme fast charging will ruin your frickin battery (studies have proven that already), I bet you the one plus battery will be even terrible after a couple months. 0-100 percent in 2 hours is good enough and not slow at all. I'm good with my 18watts charger from google. Also you're wrong about the google getting 30 watts charging- it caps out around 20 something watts
oneplus 9 pro can still use qc 4.0 charger which charges at 20w, pd 3.0 pps charger at 30w, doesn't heat up like most other phones while fast charging and it will charge just fine, while having the benefit of 65w charging when necessary.
Iphone 13 pro max is insane...im having iphone 13 pro i am getting with heavy use 8-9 hours screen on time in 13 pro thats nuts...having just 3095 mah battery in 13 pro..but i am getting full day battery life..
I'm going to say it, I've never picked up my iPhone at 100% and not have it drop ONLY 1% in the first hour of using it. In fact it's usually at 97% or lower in the first half hour.
the iphone techically can use up to 27w charging, but you need to use 3rd party accesories since apple doesn't sell charger between 20 and 61 watts. You can also buy the 61w macbook charger but that would be overkill

I bought a pixel 6 pro. First 2 to 3 weeks. Battery was crap. But as you use it and the adaptive batter thing it has does its thing I've noticed it lasting longer and longer.
Now about 2 months in I easily get a full day from it on some pretty decent usage.
6 pro battery timing??? 8 hour.. is it true
I have pixel 6 and i think battery is better than 6 pro
Damn...was almost 99% decided on the OnePlus 9 Pro up until now...the decisions continue :( Thanks for the vid!
You've kept the always on display enabled for pixel 6 and 6 pro that is not fair and definitely is the reason why they did not last that long.
It seems like you only had the always on display turned on on the pixel 6s? Maybe that's why they used so much more stand by battery than the others.
Something seriously wrong with those Pixel 6 series, biggest giveaway was the 11% drop on standby? wtf? Last week I used P6P only for 1hour and left it on standby for the whole day. That is 23h. It still had 84% battery left....
The AOD in the video is turn on
@@IceCream-uy4mclikely other had it too. Anyway. That was awful stand by performance.
sooo fucking happy with my 13 pro max!! so phones comes near to it. really theeee best❤️
Very detailed video!
13 pro max caught my attention in every test, its incredible!
But I will be more interested how many SOT it will have after 1, or 2 years
If the battery eventually degrades you can always have it replaced
PIxel 6 and Pro actually charges at 22W max. Google gimped the charge rate because of temperature issue with battery.
6:01 you know... if you turn on the "always on display" the battery will die faster bro
Just got the pixel 6 luckily not the 5 or 6 pro. Currently been using 4a5g. I don't like how apps are on iPhone and I'm gonna stick with android for sure
Big thumbs-up for apple's smart and hard work 👍
I have iPhone 13 Pro and it really has a perfect battery plus a comfortable phone size.
oh maybe because they had on-screen displays on that their standby battery drain was alot there?
Standby test with the screen always on? That is unfair.
I was gonna say the same thing. Always on display is gonna kill battery life like crazy
Always on display stops when the phone is not moved for a while
@@neagudan no, it does not. Always on means, ALWAYS on.

Tmw when everyone seems to be overlooking the fact that Pixel 6 and S21 Ultra are almost on the same level despite the $500 price difference LOL.
If an iPhone beats you in a charging test; then you've failed.
standby time on pixel had always on display that could have drained more
The Pixel 6 Pro is practically disappointing on both fronts! Tempted to go with* the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

I got a OnePlus 9 pro, it's still enough to last through a day, and it only takes 10 mins on the charger even if its a tad low when I get home from work
Yes, 7hr SoT for most people is easily enough for a day! However, it does suggest that OnePlus need to optimise better and control thermals (video).
@@andyH_England To god, just few improvements to the software and this phone would be sooo much better.
I hate how my Galaxy S10 takes 94 minutes. At over 2 hours the Pixel 6 counts them right out 🤷♂️. Looks consistent for other comparisons too.
Watching on my pixel 6 🎉🎉🎉
If you are right, although comparing the battery of the iPhone 13 pro max and the Huawei p50 pro, it is still better that of the iPhone but the difference is not much
So true, if Huawei, was still supported by Google, we would be on our seats , with popcorns, watching these battery tests like it's a movie

Best phone in the group, pixel 5. Only one that you can use 1 handed and fit comfortable in your pocket. Nice video 👍
have you used the pixel phones prior to this test?
Pls run the benchmarks at a higher battery percentage......it affects the performance SD 888 would score way above than that
Could you possibly redo this with the January update?
Well done iphone!!
Currently considering getting the pixel 5, but the iphone is VERY tempting for it's battery life
Brilliant test! Very close to real life scenerios.
The pixel will also get better with adaptive battery software
Great work Darius !!! 👏
You should consider mentioning the prices or having them in the bottom of the screen
Personally as for charging I Like slower charging phones because I will give you more life out of the battery
have the pixel 6 pro. Apparently there are some big firmware updates which will change the result
Hi Darius,
Which charger did you use for charging pixel 6??
I was looking to buy a pixel 6 pro. But considering those results i will wait for the new pixel 7, hoping that one can improve both battery life and charging speed. Thanks
Here is my thought for the time that it takes for the pixel 6 pro and 6 to drain the battery to zero it does take a long time to charge. If you are going to put slow charging then make the phone last as long as possible otherwise it defeats the purpose. I have a iPhone 13 pro and it lasts me more than 14 hours and that is with me playing games and watching TH-cam and ticktock’s
Ticktokck ?? 🙁
Not possible
I heard the pixels battery get better as the tensor chip learns a person usage
how long it come more than a couple week now.
With the correct charger you should be able to charge the pixel 6 on 1 h aprox
Good video.. glad I subscribed!

How did you set all the displays to the same NIT level? I know the adjustment slider varies from all phones. 50% is not going to measure the same NIT levels across all devices.
The brightness level is not pinned you can clearly see it changing, particularly the iphone
Bro I just realize you don't have any eyebrows
LOL
I still
Use my 5w charger with the iPhone 13 pro max and I havw a 20w just sitting there
oneplus 9 pro can still use qc 4.0 charger which charges at 20w, pd 3.0 pps charger at 30w, doesn't heat up like most other phones while fast charging and it will charge just fine, while having the benefit of 65w charging when necessary.
Iphone 13 pro max is insane...im having iphone 13 pro i am getting with heavy use 8-9 hours screen on time in 13 pro thats nuts...having just 3095 mah battery in 13 pro..but i am getting full day battery life..
has the battery improved on the pixel 6pro significantly ?
I'm going to say it, I've never picked up my iPhone at 100% and not have it drop ONLY 1% in the first hour of using it. In fact it's usually at 97% or lower in the first half hour.
the iphone techically can use up to 27w charging, but you need to use 3rd party accesories since apple doesn't sell charger between 20 and 61 watts. You can also buy the 61w macbook charger but that would be overkill
