  • I have been running a 24-volt trolling motor system for years. I prefer a fuse over breakers. Here is the type I use and some other top options with pros and cons

I have a shakespeare glider 38lbs and cut my shaft shorter and noticed the speed switch positive terminal was melted a bit ! So I'm wondering if putting a fuse on the positive cable would it blow the fuse before the switch ? And what amp rating fuse if you'd know about that ! Thanks

I can't say definitively. Typically this would be caused by high amperage. As the voltage in your battery drops and the amperage increases to match the motors demands it can exceed the wiring and connectors rating. Once it gets past that rating that's when things start to fail. Larger connections and larger diameter wire is typically the direction to head. On a positive note if the switch is still working well then you have something to work with. I don't think of fuse would solve problem but they are intended to protect you're wiring and equipment from over amperage so it would not hurt to install it

Why put a large breaker 0n a trolling motor that only pulls 10 amps

My minnkota trolling motor is rated at 56 amps, but the main reason to use a breaker is to prevent fire from melting wires.

What is the name of the breakers?

The breaker is a Tocas 60 amp. You can use the last link in the video description to see the exact one. Thank you for watching.
