  • With the museum finally closed, it’s all hands on deck to get everything ready for the October reopening. Art handlers, designers, conservators, and curators take over the galleries to begin the transformation. Works are cleaned, disassembled, relocated while new areas of the Museum receive their first installations.
    TABLE OF CONTENTS
0:58 Art handler Bo Berkman confers with conservator Anny Aviram about dusting the paintings as they move from gallery to gallery.
2:31 Art handlers remove the last of the ultrasound gel and rusty pins from Anicka Yi’s "Shameplex."
2:54 Conservator Megan Randall disassembles Tauba Auerbach’s "Altar/Engine."
4:30 Signage goes up to announce the new MoMA.
5:03 Artists Phil Edelstein and John Driscoll lead the installation of David Tudor’s "Rainforest V (variation 1)," the inaugural work to be seen in the Studio, a new space dedicated to media and performance.
5:46 Curator Ana Janevski introduces Rosalind Fox Solomon, a photographer working on a project photographing MoMA staff, to Edelstein.
6:43 Creative Director Ingrid Chou and the design team debate wayfinding sign locations.
7:17 Vincent van Gogh’s "The Starry Night" comes down from the wall. Art handlers escort it to the conservation department for cleaning.
8:40 Anny Aviram recalls the last time the Museum lent Picasso’s "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon" to another museum.

It’s amazing to see the sense of scale of works like “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon”. Seeing them on a phone or computer screen really doesn’t prepare you for just how BIG they are in real life.

MoMA is on my bucket list. It always has been. MoMA has Chagall & Warhol. MoMA has Lichtenstein's Pistol... Vincent van... I mean... geez... I weep when I watch At The Museum because I *know* these paintings, these artists.
And MoMA remains on my bucket list.

Should they be dusting the work with that dirty brush?

    • @Divertedflight
      @Divertedflight 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Which the beige brushes at 1:20 ? I think that's their natural colour. Very soft brush fibers are used for this similar to those used in expensive makeup blush brushes. Or did you mean the dusting wand at 8:52 ? here she's just dusting the fabric 'backing board' layer. This isn't actually the back of the painted canvas.
As a bit of trivia Feather dusters shouldn't be used on paintings because the little micro hooks in each feather used to align them on the bird can catch in paint cracks and cause paint loss.

If you had the choice of saving a little kid's life by pushing him out of the way of a moving car or saving "A Starry Night" by Van Gogh by keeping it from being hit by a car, which would you choose? What is your choice? ( In essence, is the painting actually worth anything or have humans fooled themselves)?

The painting symbolizes the mind of an understimate man by sociaty, who showed his vision and emotions through art, which was the only thing that keept him alive.
By the other hand, where were the irresponsible parents of that child...? Anyways, I´m sure the kid will make it, but the painting...
