@@HenryAbramsonPhDThank you professor abramson i wish peace to you 🕊as i can hear within youre voice how much this conflict has been on youre mind, its been on mine as well it seems and i may have to research it that i have some jewish ancestry from my dads side i was raized in christianity but i also recognize jesus through his jewish roots ,here in barbados i actualy had to call in a radio programme called brass tacks its a calling in show where persons speak their views on things on a daily basis Some caller came on saying a totaly incorrect and hurtful statement saying that when this horrific attack occured on oct 7 that israeli miltiary where fireing on their own civilans at the music festival ,which was a sick disgusting statement to make i felt annoyed about it ,on shabbat i attended the synagogue here on my island and the rabbi said there where accusations going around even from locals that the jewish population only started to appear in palestine following the british mandate in 1917,so yes theres a rise in antisemitism going on ,and these days we all have to be viligant ,Thank you for the link you sent im going to check it out online i agree palestinians🇵🇸should be treated equaly as well but when people chant phrases from the river to the sea "thats a underlying statement of harm to israels existence🙄uhhhhh truly difficult times where seeing these days i want to see all the hostages freed and i hope as the miracle story of Hanukkah approaches🕎🕊🕊that this bitter conflict and stragic war will come to a end theres a special prayer that the rabbi had shown about peace in the shabbat prayer book ,i remember some of it he said since this war has been happening theve been reading from this prayer often il see if i can either locate it online our if i can obtain it to memerize it ,here in barbados the jewish community isnt as large as in the US but we still have a good set of members since what im going through some of the prayers may resident with me others may not ,psalm 91 is a psalm dad new and i read with him psalm 3 when i feel depressed i read infact one night i couldnt sleep and i read it and sung it and i fell asleep i learnt from dad that the psalms where sung in Antiquity ,🕎when hanukkah comes il visit him and have a little service as il hold fast the memory❤❤of him of when we lite the menorah together at a hanukkah service just before this pandemic came shalom to you henry🕊

@@HenryAbramsonPhDif I could I would delete every single state in the world and force everyone to obey The Creator but I don’t have the right , I know very well the terrible powers that exist beyond the veil of human perception, the problem is human were given freedom to be as evil as they want while they are alive , however after the life end is game over, freedom exist to see how evil we can be , how much a human soul can be degraded by the interaction with demonic entity’s , the more they sin the more the soul degrade is like a loop one action power an effect that power more actions .
I can share with you after death non human being come and is impossible to escape , the hell dimension contains not only humans souls , but the most terrible beings , to them humans are no different to food .

Thank you again, Henry, for your three-part series which showed such wisdom and emotional restraint. The spirit of death versus the love of Life is indeed very troubling. As an Anglican priest and lover of biblical history, I have learned so much from following your many videos. Since Oct 7th, I have been praying five days a week by zoom with Christians and Jews for the peace of Jerusalem, safety of Israel, and the freeing of all of the hostages.

Dr. Henry Abramson is not only a great scholar and historian, but a bright light of intellectual curiosity and integrity, and a deeply moral human being.
We need more people like 'Dr. Henry' on both sides of this contentious set of related issues.
It is my sincere hope that he continues with his great work and brings a necessary rational perspective so that Israeli's and Palestinians can benefit from peace, mutual prosperity, and good health. Shalom!

As a gentile (and fellow Canadian) with an interest in the Arab-Israeli conflict going back decades, I thought I was coming from an informed place. These videos prove there is still much to learn - particularly this last one that details the areas of the West Bank, and some heart-felt insight into the plight facing Israelis. Thank you.

I’m an Uber driver and put the Israeli flag on my dash after Oct7, because I work in a college town, and want the Jewish kids to know my car is a safe space. No one said anything about it until last night, when about 6 people did. One was a young woman who was just in Israel in Sept as part of a trip sponsored by Hillel, to meet Israeli’s and Palestinians. Another lived there as a child and she lost a friend at the Nova music festival.
Real people, real lives. (I did similar things for Muslims after 9/11.)

As a younger person, within the demographic that seems to show some kind of strange sympathy for terrorism, I have found it unbelievably reality altering. Almost as if we’ve stepped into an alternate reality in the multiverse.
The compassion for Palestinians and the justifiable criticism of aspects of Israeli political action is fair and appropriate.
But the demonization of Israel and Jews wholesale is unconscionable and disgusting.
I don’t know where we are now or where we’re going. But thank you for speaking on the current conflict and providing your valuable perspective. Both historical and personal, Professor.

I want to say I deeply respect you, I have watched your videos for a few years, and I think this was a very well researched and reasoned series.
While I believe you are a peacemaker, I feel you perhaps forget there are Israeli's who believe in a greater Israel and view Arabs with distain, at best.
Both sides are fractured, not just the Palestinians, I was in Jerusalem during the October 7th attacks and saw this first hand. Some people blaming the dictator and settlers, some calling for Gaza to be wiped out. We dont need one, we need two Nelson Mandela figures to bridge these many divides on both sides.
One day, the conflict will be over and muslims and jews will live in peace. The horrible atrocities both sides have commited against each other will need to be forgiven and left in the past.

Such informative and impartial review of the events. Growing up in Europe I “lived” through the highjackings and bus bombings frequently. Today it pains me and shocks me that my own 25 year old American daughter is in that 48%. I listen to your videos among many others seeking a refresher course of the recent (last 1400 years )history of the levant . How can this be also taught in schools in this country?Ignorance of history is not good at all but a distorted view of history based on misinformation from social media is terrible. And by the way as a biased Zionist you’re doing a pretty good job giving an impartial and compassionate description of what is going on. Keep up the good work.

So...greatly appreciative of your product on the topic of Israeli/Palestinian relations.
I have for the past several decades somewhat superficially followed the twists and turns of the conflict, but since Oct 7th, I've tried to dig more deeply.
One thing I've noticed, and this could be my own bias coming out, but in reading many articles and watching many videos about the history of the region, I have observed that, by far, material offered by non-Palestinian or allied sources, tends to be more objective and even-handed than Palestinian-allied sources.
In other words, taking your own videos as an example, you admit to there being more than one viewpoint in the matter, you admit to your own potential for bias, but most of all you overtly attempt to minimize emotional claims or argument.
Whenever evaluating sources of information for important factual content, I look for evidence of objectivity and reason, and avoid product driven by one-sided advocacy and appeals to emotion.
    Thank you for your efforts!

Thank you, Sir, for sharing with us not only your very valued thoughts on a very difficult matter but also your own personal experience. it sure boggles the mind how many people, like in the commentaries in the Washington Post, are supporting a known terrorist group who, by their own accord, carried out a major massacre and intend to repeat it, if permitted. this said, what it needs esp on the side of the Palestinians, is a minimum of understanding that peace can only be had with at least some good will. and that means shelving one's hatred to give peace a chance. teaching children to hate is certainly the wrong way.

I don't think you're honestly reporting the letters. I've read about 100 in nyt and maybe wapo is different. Of the letters expressing sympathy for suffering Palestinians ...the number praising hamas was .. . 0 actually. Are you giving a rigorous account, in which case wapo readers are Vastly nastier and more anti semitic than nyt readers ? If you are slanting your account, that's seriously Crying wolf and trivializing anti-semitism. When anti-semitism comes knocking it won't look like what you read.
However if you are reporting honestly I apologize and I'm freaked out about wapo readers.

I feel that I have done away from this video better enlightened to the nuances of the situation. This is the first time I've finally been able to understand why the settlements are controversial. Your last video helped me to understand why the people in Gaza feel trapped or imprisoned.
I don't know what the full solutions are but I think we can only find them through listening deeply and to everyone, even those who feel bitter against us. (I say 'us' in a general sense, for people of every side of position).
I think you set an example here of listening even in the hardest of circumstances. You see news about kidnappings and murders, and proceed to listen and speak calmly. I admire this example and will do my best to do likewise. I cannot change the situation on my own, but you're inspiring me to try to bring a calm and empathetic narrative.

I found your lectures on Pal/Israel conflict. During this(III) offering you showed a picture of the check point crossing gate with Palestinians. A very good man I had known, a man who's lifes work was in inner faith, greatly respected in his community for his leadership and bridging of all faiths, a Muslim who has been called from this world but leaves hope in so many. When after 9/11 was pursued by local papers regarding his inner faith work was ask if he had any hatred or animosity towards Jews answered " No,why would I ? I Love them, they are my cousin's " I was hoping you would share with me the date of this photograph if at all possible. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏 😊

Much respect and honor to you dear sir. You are a voice of reason on this very complex and heartbreaking conflict. As a follower of Yeshua ( I Purposely avoided using the term "Christian" as it can mean a lot of different ideas that frankly have departed and grossly misrepresent Yeshua's teachings and the early church movement) I greatly respect the manner in which you have explained the realities of this ongoing conflict. I personally would like to convey to you and your family heart felt condolences for any loss that you have experienced as a result of horrible October 7th atrocity. Prayers for you, your family and all those who have experienced loss.

Thank you for a very nuanced and educational video. Not many engaged in a war are as nuanced as you. I do respect that very much. It seems to me the Palestinians greatest problem is their own narrative, and for as long as they do not chose the path of Gandhi or Martin Luther King Israel will be fforced to fight existential wars. In that perspective it will be natural for the Israeli opinion to become less nuanced and more radical. The present war may be a preliminary stage to a wider and more brutal conflict (I hope I am wrong though).

Hi again, Henry. I'm really enjoying your gentle and informative approach to this history and am learning so much but, that said, I'm the guy who gave you a bit of a hard time in the comments on your Islamic antisemitism video for glossing over the deeply entrenched, repulsive and undeniable Jew hatred in the Koran, the Hadith and the Sunnah. To your credit, you replied that the video should have been longer from which I inferred an acknowledgement that, if it were, you'd have delved into this unseemly but important reality.
So, with that, I continue to watch your videos hoping for a course-correction somewhere, indeed, the very kind of self-awareness and criticism you commend the New Historians for at least claiming to aspire to (the skepticism's mine, not yours).
But, my friend, you've done it again. Yes, for sure MEMRI offers abundant proof of the perverse, one might even say inverse or evil morality of some Palestinians openly relishing their children and other family members' deaths. Yet you then seem to have looked away when these same Muslims explain why. As devout Muslims, they consider these deaths attributable to "jihad" and thus guaranteed pathways to Paradise for not just the deceased but all their families. This is the death-cult side of Islam that we must face clearly if we're ever going to properly understand our enemies' mentality.
One could delve deeper into the obscene financial reward system such "martyrdom" attracts, billions of diverted international aid flowing as honorariums and stipends to families left behind. One could examine the political, social and religious benefits that likewise accrue but it all starts with the sermons, the religious propaganda and the Koran verses and Hadiths that drive it.
All that said, you're a very good expositor and I have no doubt that if you expanded your purview to properly engage this aspect of the problem, you'd do an excellent job explaining it. Sincerely.

You are giving Henry grief for being too easy on Palestinians. Others here are giving him grief for being too sympathetic to the pro-Israel side.
For my money, that's proof that he gives a very fair, balanced picture of what's going on.

And that’s the fallacy of the middle. Just because I say the stick is three feet long and you say it’s five doesn’t mean it’s four.
But, also, I’m not saying he’s too easy. It’s not their fault that Islam is so poisonous and fatal. They’re its victims just like the rest of us.

on a personal note I loved this video. But from a historical point I was hoping you might address more of the history as you did in your previous videos. The 2nd intifada, Operation Cast Lead, Operation Protective Edge etc. And the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin and Goldstein cave massacre.
I think many people who disagree with you will feel this video is lacking because you skipped over this history. I think this video would be a perfect Part 4. But I wish you had done a part 3 with a bit of detail.
Thank you again for your videos. I have really enjoyed going through your catalog and getting more in touch with my heritage.

Hi Henry. Thanks for your sincerity and goodwill over this painful issue.
I think both Israeli and Palestinian societies have histories of extreme trauma.
I generally do support the Palestinian side as a matter of basic human rights but it is best to refrain from throwing stones. Peace is likely a very long way off until both sides can see a common humanity in one another.

    You've had some interesting videos.
I first encountered your channel a few years ago when I decided to look up Jewish history because it was essentially a big gap in my area kf knowledge (didn't finish my M.A., I focused on medieval Europe, early Christianity, and public history). You've shown some fascinating things that I was only vaguely aware of or completely unaware of.
The events of the past two months have been rather unfortunate and I have been worried that the only possible outcomes might be varying degrees of violence and misery, and that the strategy of Hamas is specifically to maximize this to radicalize people and present themselves as victims.
I've recently been reading a bit about Jabotinsky. I rarely hear him talked about in regard to his influence today (it seems like the left faction as exemplified by Ben-Gurion is much more prominent in popular memory), but some of what he had to say is very interesting in the context of current events.

Thanks. I did mean Israel. I had to shorten my original comment a few times because it was rejected by TH-cam. A British International law expert Natasha Hausdorf presents a cogent case that the West Bank is not "occupied" and no annexation has taken place because, in simple terms, a new state adopts the boundaries of the previous administration which in this case would be the area of the British Mandate minus Jordan. This is available on youtube. It is also well worth watching her interview with Katya Adler of the BBC where she exposes some biased reporting of the current conflict by our supposedly neutral national broadcaster.@@HenryAbramsonPhD

Your videos are very interesting. Just a minor correction-the so-called 'separation wall' was not the effective measure that stopped the Second Intifada. Moreover, the Dahia doctrine you mentioned came later, during the 2006 Second Lebanon War. The wall was initially conceived as a solution to the Second Intifada, but it took several years to build. What effectively ended the Second Intifada was IDF Operation 'Defensive Shield' in 2002. Contrary to the Oslo Accords map, the IDF entered Area A, penetrated Palestinian cities, and forcefully, yet effectively, suppressed the Palestinian resistance.

Thanks (again) for the video. Full of courage and decency. The problem is, and you let you know in the very end, that a lot of people, especially young people are not able to understand a thing. Here in Europe we have to support demonstrations from groups Lgtbi, anarchists and far left and so on in support the arabs: and in opposite site, the fascist party in France or Hungary or evangelical Christian’s -descendants from the perpetrators of the holocaust- in favour of the right of Israel to defend itself. It’s a crazy stuff and I have to recognize that I can’t understand the whole stuff. Peace ☮️ for everybody and long life to the people of Israel.

    Professor Abramson,
You emphasize time and again that people of good will should be able to get together and resolve this intractable conflict. I agree in principle, but it is apparent that Israel is the only party with any good will, always ready to compromise. On the other hand, as Abba Eban said: "Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity”. They see violence as the only solution. They appear For all intents and purposes to be devoid of any goodwill.
We can only rely on The One Above and his IDF.
Thank you for all your good work.
