This is really good. It almost sounds like a paula temple / rebekkah kick with the added snare! But also - wont layering so many kicks cause phasing problems?
yeah it can, you can ever hear it most of the time, it depend on how you layer and how you detune kick from one to another. Usually when you have phase problem, you will straight away hear it as your kick will sound weak and "weird".
Thank you for this tutorial. I've never seen anyone work like this. Next time I will try. I wonder a little bit that the kicks are not destroyed after resampling and destorting more times. Learned something again 😊
@@audioreakt O M G that's insane. Thank you very much Paul. I know directly what I'm going to do with it 💪 that's really awesome. I'm so surprised and I'm so happy that I told my wife who didn't care 🤣

haha yeah when I do sound design it's sometime important to notcare to your level as it can lead to great result... you might loose a bit of dynamic but get a nice tone instead, all about compromising and balance
the things is we usually have something very specific in our head so it's almost impossible to have a kick already like we want...I mean at least that's the case for me
Hello mate, your all videos are really helpful. I am so preciate it. Can you make a tutorial about kick tutorials like more clean like Afterlife, its hard to tell you know. I cant reach the kick which I want for a long time. thanks!
You need to work on 808 kick and find good click to put too on top. But yeah probably later this year when I will go back to melodic techno I will do one ;)
What's the reasoning to record 8-bar samples vs just single ones? Because when you record your kicks you always keep it recording for a while before using it. And then in the sample you just select the first kick anyways, so I was wondering what the idea behind this is? I understand to set a different tempo if you plan to use it in different tempo than 127 as you had here, but I'm not sure about why you record for that long? Hope this is not a silly question :P Great insight to your process, many thanks!!
Kick loop are easier to use in general, if you drop them in your ableton in session view they will loop automaically, if you drop them in arrangement they will appear bigger and so easier to drag plus again as they are 4 bar loop it easier to grab and drag the loop. The one shot kick might not loop perfectly, so you have to delect duplicate place on the grid etc.. But sure if you use them in a sampler, there is no point of loop
hello, thank you for a nice tutorial of techno kick. Could you tell me please at which rate and bit depth are you sampling your stuff please? thank you in advance.
yes I do but always by ear, with lowend you can usually see straight if something is wrong as you loose energy... but sometime can happen that I am so much ointo layer/process that I realised afterward...
with mutliband you can compress a specific frequency range (fpr exemple the top end), rather that a classic compressor, will compress the full spectrum
Not sure what you mean, each Max Ds instrument are differnet, which one are you talking about ? And what time of enveloppe ? Filter, Amp, Pitch ? You can still use the max 4 live shaper or lfo to modulate any paramter of your DS instrument
They are fairly overdriven and there is no room for mixing and effects, lower the gain before processing. e.g. ideal reverb kicks should be much shorter so they don't roll in the next one and make the mix muddy. love your sound design however bro keep up the good work. x3 x3 x3
Yeah some of them I would not put a rumble at all because sometime how the kick is design, the kick is enough itself (for exemple the very distorted one). You can see in the video with the very distorted kick that rumble doesn't really match/work. It's all about what you're are looking for and what works, there is plenty of track "without" basseline/rumble as sometime the kick itself is like you said overdriven and doesn't really let room for the rest. Depend what you are looking for. Thanks for your feedback !
