1:45 Same! Everything has to be on the desk. When I first purchased an OG Digitakt I even had two strict rules: 1) No 4-on-the-floor and 2) No 120bpm+ until I learned the instrument. My rules served me well-I'm now making bangers🖤
haha that a great rules, me I also create track while learning, it make the process of learning the machine longer but feel I remember better the features then...but your two condition are impossible for me hahaha
I felt this way about the AR too. I often put it away. Then after a couple of month only using DT/ST/DN I rediscover the AR and was blown away by its grit, dynamics, aggressive delay and reverb. It stands out from the pack. The smaller siblings sound great, don't get me wrong. But the AR has something special which cannot be recreated with the others.

Great vid Paul & yes all my (limited) external stuff has to be close or it’s not going to get used much. Got the Syntakt for £700 - the Rhythm is double that. Never considered it worth it..
@@sonicindustries227 yeah but the sequencer is great for drum on the rytm, Idk if the s-4 you can use samples more like a drum machine, maybe I am wrong I didn't really looked into it...
Loved this different style video and your personal input/experience with gear for the kind of techno you were teaching here too. As someone who recently got a syntakt I might be biased but more gear content could be welcome
Syntakt was my first hardware after meddling with fl studio as a hobbyist for a while. I still have lots of fun jamming on it two years later, what a fun machine ❤
I recently got the EP-133 and also have a Microfreak, 303, and Circuit laying around so am really wondering how are you connecting all of your gear together? Is it all just being sent into a mixer you have and the to ableton? 🤔
ableton is the master clock, then I sync with usb mainly, or midi with the er-m for the gear that doesn't have usb. Then for audio I have the RME UFXIII which got plenty of input and get everything in ableton, i even got a ferrofish pulse 16 that get me an extra 16 I/O with adat
Does the digitakt / syntakt work better in an ableton overbridge workflow ? I have the Rytm and I love the coloration from the master overdrive compressor etc but I’m having problems with the workflow of actually getting it into ableton quickly to build the rest of my track there . Seems like you can record the fx separately but the workflow seems a bit clunky .
It works. Sketching a 4-8 bar loop that actually sounds great is an easy (work)flow, importing all separate track to ableton at the same time with overbridge is easy too. The Fx regarding reverb and delay are amazing engines with a lot of tweakability and they just work, however delay and reverb tracks are a separate return channel meaning you have to record both as separate channels into ableton. If you're good with recording the channels without them it's easy in one go, if you want the added rev+delay you'd have to record on the rec+delay channel a take with only the specific track using them is playing. Even if I jam with it in bed I try to keep the internal reverb and delay either only for the tops or synths/mid so that way if I like it I can have it in Ableton in a few loops recorded ready to arrange and process
For me it’s the same, overbridge work the same for rytm and syntakt, but as it’s a master effect you are talking about, you won’t get that master effect apply to your separate output in live, the same way that if you was using the hardware separated output of the rytm. Like said in the comment above, it work the same for the fx, they are on separated track so when you got your individual output in live you loose the reverb except if you get the fx channel too. On the syntakt it’s a bit clunky because you have the fx channel too on top of the delay/reverb channel… But because the delay/reverb in the syntakt are kind of classic I can easily replace them with live one… For you case if you want the master effect on Ableton you gonna have to work with the master track and not the separated output. You can still solo a track in the rytm and record the rytm output in live to get that colour and record all the track individually like this and then play them as loop in Ableton, this way you got each track recorded with the master color. But it also mean the audio is printed… can’t have both
@ ok thank you! yeah this is what I thought, and good to know that switching to syntakt wouldn’t solve this issue . I appreciate you making this video. Do you happen to know if the digitakt is the same as this workflow wise? I’m not sure what kind of master distortion / compression it has on all the separate tracks or if it is more focused on processing each track individually. I think in this case the Syntakt might not be for me since I do like the ability to combine samples with the synth engines on the rytm. But the fact that the master output is such a big part of the sound of the rytm and having to record each track solo to print those effects into ableton if the digitakt is less focused on that it might be easier to integrate into ableton.
For me, the AR is way more, than the ST. I'm using the performance knob, the scenes, the 2 expression pedal/slider inputs. I'm resampling drum loops, and using samples to vocal tracks and for effects. Parameter slides are also a great option for the sequencer. I can use kits to change how my patterns sounds, etc. Sometimes I'm using external effect pedals for separated track outputs, and resampling the results. I can't live without these features.
syntakt and analog rytm you have a bit of overlaping here, might be better to use one or another and take something different instead to cover more possibility. at the price of the rytm you could get a syntakt + anotehr box. the korg one never really play with or that many demo tbh...
agree with your point, my problem with the move is that you don't see what the encoder control, I never play with so don't know if that really an issue... I feel the syntakt even though I agree is less versatile is more intuitive....in term of transport move is spot on!

Do it, the 1 for 350 or 2 if you have the budget
Seems cool but I need to chill out with gears 😅
I was in the same place and pulled the trigger on the Digitakt 2... Seems I made the right choice to cover stereo sampling and drums...
@ I’m sure the Digitakt 2 is super capable. I have a TR-8S for drums and MPC for sampling. I just want something to make crazy FM noise with.
If I was to get a Ableton move I'd rather pick a syntakt 😅
Tricky choice, not the same price (if you already have Ableton suite)…
Didn’t have the move in my hand but the syntakt synth engine are very smartly designed and with 8 parameter you got plenty to do with…and you see what the parameter does, not like on the move where you have to guess
The AI generated synopsis made me decide not to watch the video, as the bot already summarized everything in it to me
which tool did you use for that ?
Half the Footprint? What does that mean? Footprint is something you leave behind....

Syntakt is a great little machine. So much power in that little box.
Indeed!
