Great video. Say, what grit is the paper on the orbital sander?

Why shellac in the first place? To keep the wood from the paint??

The shellac accepts acrylic gesso? Hmm but he curious. Is this process archival..?

Thanks for the amazing video. I know shellac works with oil colors. Does this work with Acrylic paint as well?

According to an interview on Simkins website, Craola uses mostly Trekell, Nova Color and Golden acrylics. Using this video as a guide, my son now prepares his boards the same way. I guess because the shellac is under three coats of gesso, its all good.

Is there a reason why shellac is used instead of a poly application?

+jon donahoe I'm no expert, but I would think it's because shellac can be removed for cleaning where as poly I'm not sure can be, and if so it might be very difficult and thereby damage the painting. It could also have some adverse chemical reaction to the acrylics.

Poly is an oil product. You can't apply acrylic gesso over it without possible adhesion problems.
