    So glad I came across your tutorial! The slip stitch row as a foundation is brilliant. That plus one row of single crochet is all my blanket needed. Thank you!

    Very helpful, thank you. I also picked up from the your reply to comments that this technique is only required on the ‘rough edges’ of a blanket to start with. The second row would be a then be a full circuit around all four sides of the blanket. (Hope this helps new readers of the comments by putting it nearer the top of the page).😂🤣
    Thanks again👏👏

    I remember watching this video when it was first uploaded, and I have not forgotten the tips you gave in this astonishing video, I revisited this video again to make sure that what I'm doing on my current project's edging is the same as this edging. And I have to say I am so pleased with how you teach and explain because if I can remember a technique for 4 years this means that you're explanation is so great and very valuable. Hello, what a great way to add a nice edge to have a good start at making a blanket border look gorgeous! I just this evening finished a baby blanket. It needs a border and I love this stitching technique, especially for the side edges. Also, the crochet piece that you are demonstrating on... I have never seen that pattern!! A flower bud with stem crocheted into the piece as you are creating it! Lovely.. Stunning! I am so hoping that you or any reader, might know where I can find this pattern. I have been searching and found other flowers and stems, yet not this one! None, that I have seen compare to this pattern.
    Hopefully for some help. I am Janice, from Michigan, USA. Thank you. 😊

    I am intrigued to try this technique on a blanket I crocheted with many color changes. My question: when you do the slip stitches on the second rough edge, do you start from the opposite corner? That is, in this video, you started at the top corner and worked down the side to the bottom. On the other side, do you start at the bottom and work up? This way your border stitches would go in the same direction as your slip stitches on both sides. Or would this make the fabric twist or curl? Would it be better to start the slip stitches at the top on both sides? Or does it not matter?

  • @AlysonGold

    This is a wonderful video! I am very new to crochet (just picked up the hook last week, as a matter of fact!) and wasn't able to quite understand what the Felted Button meant in the written instructions, but this video cleared it right up! Thank you so much for sharing it. I do have a question...when you were doing the chain stitches around the edge, I noticed you went through one loop, one loop, then two loops when you got to the end of the dc. Can you tell me why and if it makes a difference whether you go through one loop or both loops? Thank you! I look forward to learning more about crocheting through your videos :)

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      it makes no difference if you do one or two loops. the reason why i sometimes used one loop and sometimes 2 is because sometimes 1 loop is easier than 2 to get in to. i look at the stitches and if there are 2 loops readily available i use 2, if not i go through 1 loop only.

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      most likely it's a tension issue. maybe you are not keeping your yarn tight enough when you turn rounds?

  • @memesmith0811
    @memesmith0811 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very nice thank you. What would you do for a 2 or 3 chain at the edge that counts as a double crochet or treble (UK/US) or a HDC. Sometimes these also don't count as a stitch and you are asked to do a double crochet or treble in same stitch but the chains don't count as one.

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      when the ch don't count, work in the tr or other stitch next to it that does count. If the ch counts as a stitch, work one or two slip stitches in the loops of the starting ch.

  • @FrothingFanboy

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      it depends on the stitch, sometimes there is room for two loops and sometimes not. it's playing by feel what works and what not.

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you don't have to, the slip stitches is only in a straight line. when working a sc edge, you simply step over from the regular stitches on one edge, to the slip stitches on the next edge

  • @kittenkorleone2918
    @kittenkorleone2918 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The longer I've crocheted the better my edges look all the time. Sometimes my tension varies and I end up with a gap where I made a looser turning chain. Sometimes I feel that some edge "issues" are just part of what crochet "is" and can't be eliminated, only lessened. I just finished a scarf and took great care to keep my edges as uniform as possible. Would this edging work on a 6 inch wide scarf? I'm afraid that the drape would be greatly effected. I used roving yarn and it would be next to impossible to frog if the edging made the piece more stiff. I wished I knew in advance what this edging will do to the drape!

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i have used this on blankets before, and to my experience it does not affenct the drape.

    • @Itsallinanutshell

    This is great. But what about if you have ch 2 or ch 3 for the first stitch of each row?

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  ปีที่แล้ว

      then you can work the slip stitches into those chains

    Hi. Thank you. Do you slip stitch all the way around or just on the uneven edge?

  • @suzannehickey8035
    @suzannehickey8035 ปีที่แล้ว

    when using slip stitch for uneven edges, do you have to also use on top and bottom of afghan or can I start a border on the top and bottom of the afghan without using the slip stitch prep?

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  ปีที่แล้ว

      you don't have to use the slip stitches, you can also work directly into the side of the blanket

    How would you do it on half double crochet please

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      exactly the same, you work slip stitches on the edge of the hdc just like you work on a dc. for an hdc I would think that 3 slip stitches per 2 hdc would give a good distribution

    When doing the slip stitches, do you do them in the loops or in the space underneath for the turning chains?? I’m sorry if you’ve already answered! 😅

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  ปีที่แล้ว

      if I need only one slip stitch, I work in the space underneath, but if I need two or more I will work in the turning chain.

    Can you show how you continue and do all the sides?

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The other two sides are regular crochet stitches, you work in them like you always do.

    Would you do 1 or 2 slip stitches in a half double crochet?

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would do 2, but if you are a tight crocheter 1 is better. Also look at the pattern how many stitches you need to make for the border

    Is there a video on how to connect the final corner together?

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  ปีที่แล้ว

      when all the way round with dc stitches, or which ever stitches you work into the slip stitches and along the regular edges, close the round with a slip stitch

      I did not work a corner, just the edge itself

    How to you do a hale double crochet stitch for a slip stitch? Is it like a single crochet slip stitch?

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i don't understand your question. In this video I work slip stitches on the edge of a fabric. It is the same, no matter what stitches the fabric is made of.

    How do you handle a row that was hdc? How many st do you pick up?

  • @Kazzy01
    @Kazzy01 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, when your turning a corner do you just carry on with the slip stitch in the next

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there would be no need to put slip stitches on the adjacent edge because there you will have the top or bottom of the crochet stitches, which don't need anything done to them.

    • @Itsallinanutshell

      you don't need to do a corner because there are normal stitches to work into. otherwise, look at video 3 of Connected Cushion where I also do this technique

    How many slip stitches do you do in the corners?

    • @Itsallinanutshell
      @Itsallinanutshell  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      typically only one, and then when you work into the slip stitches, work 3 sc in the corner slip stitch

    • @user-hh3go9po3v
      @user-hh3go9po3v 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's all in a Nutshell Crochet Oh ok. Thank you. I was confused because everyone was saying how you do 3 stitches in the corner but when I tried to do 3 slip stitches it wouldn’t work. That makes more sense
