I bought a set of Mean 90's maybe a few years back. They have become one of my favorite pickup sets. I'm a die hard Seymour Duncan guy and in my opinion the Mean 90's are on the same level. The tone is that good.
I have an Epiphone Les Paul that was broken, like all the wiring was bad, so I threw a Dream 180 bridge/Dream 90 neck set into it, and I paired that with a Seymour Duncan Active Blackouts Preamp. That guitar went from being broken and collecting dust to being my favorite guitar. I play extreme music, so think death metal, black metal, deathcore, but I also love prog rock and pop punk and alternative rock, so having something that could jump from crushing distortion and destructive palm mutes to crystal cleans with the flip of a switch on the guitar and pressing the amp foot switch was a must for me. GFS pickups gave me that. It's going to be really tempting to not give the same treatment to all my H-H routed guitars.
@@JosephGallagher I just have this th-cam.com/video/XqiFt8OVYsI/w-d-xo.html of me playing a Sia cover through some joyo amps (Meteor II, Jackman II) and Monoprice DI boxes with a cab sim because I was feeling lazy lol. My fiancee wanted it to sing karaoke too at a bar she was the KJ host at. I used a Metal Zone as a boost for the Jackman, and a TS9 for the Orange. I'm pretty sure all the distorted rhythm guitar parts, save for the leads, are done with my Epiphone. One guitar is the Jackman on the neck Dream 90, and the other is the Meteor on the bridge Dream 180. I have a B.C. Rich with a Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invader in the bridge and STK-2 Hotstack in the neck. The clean guitar parts I used the neck pickup on both guitars, and the lead I used the B.C. Rich in the middle pickup position. The Jackman is always on the left and the Meteor is always on the right. I used a cheap zoom multi-fx for gating in the fx loop of both amps, and for a distortion pedal sim to be used with the clean channel to make a "chainsaw" adjacent tone. As a result, both distorted rhythm guitars are double tracked.
Love the Mean 90s. I put a Mean 90 in the neck and a Surf 90 in the the bridge of my hollow body. With pure nickel strings and a Fender Bassman it gets me the Garage Rock tone Ive been chasing.
If you know what you're here for go to 6:26 😉 I have a Mean90 in the bridge and a Dream180 in the neck of my LesPaul. Was about to go for a PAT on the nwck, but with the 12 adjustable screwpole pieces and lower output I knew I'd be able to get a more balanced sound in the middle position. Needless to say I'm the happiest with my guitar 🖤
My "Burnished Gold" Epi Lp is now quick Plug wired and I have 4 sets of different designed humbucker I can mix and match. So versatile! Love playing with sound ad much as playing guitar! Looking forward to adding more pickups to the LP bag o tricks!!
Great video!!! I own a bunch of Mean 90s (and Dream 90 and Surf 90 too for that matter). I'm wondering how the Mean 90s sound compared to some GFS AlNiCo humbuckers (as the Crunchy PAT have Ceramic magnets). Would be great to hear the Mean 90s vs. Fat PAT in the bridge, a '59 or an AlNiCo II in the neck.
Hey Greg, you can get this same blue model and a set of the Mean 90's right from GFS. All you need is a screwdriver to swap out the pickups and you're good to go! The links for the guitar and pickups are in the video description.
I just got a guitar with these GFS P-90 (HB sized) installed. They are snarl beasts! If you are looking for a kick a@@ P90 in humbucker...get these. No Sh.t. They rock hard when you do and are crispy clean when you want. They are just as hot and clear as the P90's in my PRS Soapbar II. I absolutely love these things and will definitely replace the P90 in my PT Special with a GFS P90. Just Saying. Best Regards
This is pretty cool! I’m thinking of taking a Dean Baby ML that I have and putting some work in on it to upgrade its hardware. The humbuckers in it now are junk, don’t know if they’re stock or something my cousin thought was a good idea to mess with.
I am a fan of these guys. I have bought many of their pickups over the years. | On the other side of things. That guitar could have been tuned a lot better 😞 .
I bought a few of these pickups a few years back. I compared to a Seymour Duncan phat cat p90. The Guitar fetish sounds as good maybe even a bit better than the SD's. These are great pickups.
The quality of the demos is so much better now. Love gfs!
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it! :D

I found a kwickplug Dream 90 (black casing) at my local buy sell record store for $30!

I have the opposite (kinda), a Dream180 in the neck and a Mean90 in the bridge 😄 Got any vids to your guitar?

I just bought one of these with the crunchy PAT and I have to say I’m really impressed. Sounds and plays great.
The "Mean '90's definitely have more soul.... They BOTH sound great!!! But my personal preference would definitely be the "Mean '90's."❤️👍🎸
Great-sounding set, the Mean 90s. (Might I suggest to check tuning before commencing recording though? Something is flat, probably the G-string.)
putting a set of mean 90's in my epiphone sheraton II. Can't wait!

I put the 90's in a Silvertone SG type guitar and they are just what I was listening for.
Wish you used more distortion for the P90 tests, the only P90 tone I can think of is Tony Iommi's tone on the first 2 Black Sabbath albums.
I always think of George throuhgood

So the 90's are plugged into 500k pots? How are they with 250k pots? Or a 500 vol and 250 tone?

The mean 90 snap is wicked.
I need that exact guitar with the Mean 90s in it. I wish there was an option to do this straight from GFS.

I close my eyes, and hear David Spade. I open my eyes, and see David Spade with darker hair. And thanks for the demo!
Do.... do men often see David Spade when they close their eyes? I'm not so sure he would be thrilled to hear that 😶
Does that guitar need intonated, or just tuned up? It was out of tune for both pickup sets.

I wonder what they sound like with distortion. What the heck kind of weasely overdrive was that ?
P90s really do a special thing. I caught the bug and am afraid to use humbuckers.
So, they are not traditional P90s?
I am a fan of these guys. I have bought many of their pickups over the years. | On the other side of things. That guitar could have been tuned a lot better 😞 .
The "Mean 90's" sound a LOT better, to me.
I don't have a gig face🥴 would it help to put a capo on my nuts?😵💫
a pick up shoot out pluged in to the amp the way it should be

Jessie is a friend...
P90s way better sound than the Humbuckers! I put a set of P90s in my 1962 ES335 - it sound great - far better that the PAFs!
WICKED !!!!
Why are all the guitars on GFS videos always out of tune?
P94s are much more like Strat single coils than P90's. They sound great but, just sayin
Please tune your😩 guitar
