Great video. I do have a question about hot water return. I know that wasn’t part of the video, but how do you handle it as far as connecting to the HW system. When we show the pipes connecting, it breaks the fixture units of the HW system. What we’ve been doing is drawing the HWR piping close to the HW without connecting. Do you know of a way to handle the HWR relationship to the HW better than that? We’ve made our HWR system a hydronic system so we can add a flow rate to it.

Great question. I have always just connected it to the hw piping keeping the systems separate. But that is strictly for modeling purposes. If I wanted connect them, but keep flows consistent I would create a special fitting so that I could get flow through the HW portion and then use a calculated value for the return piping flow. Then use a balancing valve to set the gpm for each branch. It's all in my head as of now. I need to do some tinkering and actually make it work. Just need to find the time. I'm sure I'll create a course on this topic eventually.
