This is brilliant. We've done sailing, we've done UK canals and now in our twilight years we've bought a Fletcher 17 GTS with this engine. So these videos will provide the knowledge and guidance I need to fault find and refurbish the motor. Thank you very much Keith. Regards
I’m really pleased that my videos have not only been of interest but useful to you. It’s really nice to have positive feedback on what I’m trying to do.
That water cooler voltage regulator was a problem for us when we had this engine. We had to build an emergency electrical bypass while stranded in the Chesapeake Bay ended up using a bunch of wires in parallel to act as a load. Afterwards we changed it with a new factory part every couple of years. Had no problems after that but dad always carried an emergency Vee-Belt and alternator and bracket for limp home mode. No way to walk back... Dad was a sticker for flushing the raw water side until there was no more salt taste ever day when the boat returned to the trailer. We still had the factory cooling system when he sold it after a decade of use.
well thanks for the explanation, I replace the water pump in that 3.7 and just hook up the engine with water to heat exchanger and overheating problems, got be that thermostat or air in the system, The engine purrs. but I got find why that closed system is over heating.
Very helpful video! I’m actually having issues with the starter solenoid that you reference in the video. Where did the wires on the small terminals go to and from??
On mine one comes from the start position on the key. The other goes to earth. Mine is a standard solenoid. There are two types of solenoid filled to this engine. The standard and a switch one. The switch one uses the mounting plate as an earth and the second wire goes to the ignition coil live side I think.
Wow.Wever knew about the water pump drain bolt and keeping the weep hole free. Great information Keith.
Thanks. Glad it was useful
Thanks. Saved lots engines from freezing. With this information. Great video
@@colorworks9731 great it makes the time I spend doing the videos worth while.
Thanks for watching and letting me know 👍
Great explanation, thank you very much
No problem. Thanks for taking an interest in my videos

Thanks for your comment. A few people have suggested getting rid of the original charging system and replacing it with an alternator
Awesome video. Well done! Thanks for this!

Good luck finding your problem.
Cheers the face where the manifold meets the header tank.
