Hi Chloe, my father always told me to become a swimmer but growing up in the 80s I gravitated towards running. For 60 year old man I'm in great shape and can easily run a sub 7 minute mile. After swimming for a year-and-a-half I was shocked to realize how technical swimming is. Finally I'm able to swim somewhat effortlessly. Your videos are spectacular. You saved me a lot of money in that I'm able to bring your lessons into the pool and continue to get better. Your command of the technical and most importantly the ability to inculcate these techniques are exquisite.

Chloe ty so much. Where were you 15 years ago in my active triathlon days? Lol. I did everything back then, masters swimming class', Total Immersion swim class, etc etc. And yep the famous "S" pull, you taught in 9 minutes and 20 seconds the easiest and most efficient way to swim, compared to the years of being taught incorrect form. Teaching is gift, and you definitely have that gift. Thanks again Chloe.

Chloe, sitting here at the pool with my two boys who, at 10 and 13, are just beginning to swim with a team. This video is so helpful to help them achieve correct form, and experience the thrill of fluid movement in the water. And they keep hearing me say, "Oh my G-d, I was taught the S-stroke 30+ years ago by my coach, now I'm going to have to retrain myself!" We'll all have your tips in mind when we do our practices. THANK YOU!!!

Thanks Chloe, I never was taught how to catch and pull with full surface area of arm. I only just got re enthused to get fit for a triathlon and having done only two squad sessions in the beginner lane I'm learning that proper technique is exactly why it always looked easy when someone fast swims. This is so helpful.

I was trained to do the s pull, which we called 'keyhole'. I can see how it would be less efficient, but what I enjoy about it is how it allows the hand to act as a wing (rather than a paddle), so I end up pulling myself forward rather than pushing water back. I've tried to adopt the more efficient pull but I just can't enjoy it when I do my daily 2k. 40 years of muscle memory to get over! Thanks for the cool vid. Very useful.

Yesterday I was averaging 45 seconds for 40m (I'm out of shape and not a very good swimmer) Today, my best time was sub 35 seconds, my average was 40 seconds and all I did was begin to incorporate some of your instructions. I also went from 17 laps to 22. It surprised me how much my effort lessened and my speed increased. You instruction is excellent. Thank you Chloe!

Very well done video. As a 65 year old sailor and surfer, you have a lot of expertise that helps me think to swim more efficiently. Most of my lake and ocean swimming has always been sort of a long reach and a bit high to get past wavelets and a hard pull of whatever sort I can manage. For me it's all about getting to the boat again, or out of one wave and over the next on a board. So now, as I'm trying to do more swimming than any running, and I love the water, your video makes a lot of sense and gives me some technique to perfect!

Very well done. Some "Do" and some "Teach" you can do both. This was very helpful for this "no swimming background" while growing up and fairly new triathlete. I have a background in video production and my only comment here that I believe will enhance your videos even more is that you use a high quality "Boom Microphone" held just over your head, but out of the shot. It will eliminate that echo sound in the audio portion and really clarify what your are saying. keep up the good work!

Thank you very much for this. I realize I am totally doing the first beginner's error you pointed out - not starting to elbow flex until my hand is approaching six o'clock - and now I will have to start it as soon as I start pulling down.

This is awesome thank you. A couple of years ago I pushed myself swimming with a slopping over mid line pull, causing my my right hip torsion and scoliosis. The elbow rotated up helps piece my puzzle together. my left hip didn't push down when my left hand enter the water. anyway thank you again for the great info and easy to watch video.

Check out my breathing video to learn about head position and the recovery doesn't really matter.
